The Lord of the Flies

Kill the beast!

Cut his throat!

Spill his blood!

Inspired by Lacie, a conversation with Ocean, and this screenshot by Raz. The drama here reminds me much of a beloved novel.

Out of fear, you've become beasts yourselves, haven't you? Your behavior will be a more likely cause of death to the game than someone tinkering with files. Your only fear should be the onset of server-side spelldata. Don't be children, don't be beasts.

Also think before jumping to conclusions. You have no way of knowing whether or not this person is doing this for attention(which I doubt), or just using something they've discovered. You don't know what they do or don't know or if they understand what you want of them. You don't know how knowledgeable they may or may not be to the situation. Do you think killing the beast will really make things any better?

Don't bring your tempers to this post. This is inspiration, this is art. I shall say that this was made by all of you.

Dear TEF, Hi everybody. I

Dear TEF,

Hi everybody. I want to make a small suggestion. Smiling
Would everybody stop chasing this person, at least until we get an answer from M&A?
I see where you guys are coming from. Really. All of us are worried. Nobody likes that this person is doing this.

In the meantime, though, can we just...not bother them? If it turns out that they figured it out on their own (or even if they didn't), they still might not have seen the post on M&A's disapproval of this. They may just be another player. We really can't do anything at the moment, save chasing them. If they haven't changed their antlers already & we can't ask them to, it probably won't happen.

Please hope the best of this person. M&A are rational people; I doubt they would shut the server down over this or anything like that. It is one instance, with a player that may not even be on here. Even if they would, it's not worth frightening this person who may not understand. It is unlikely that the message will get across if they have no idea that this is not approved of. I know you all know this, but it's worth saying; there's a person behind that deer, whose actions are not necessarily meant to harm.

If you all have stopped already, that's great! If not, I really think this will help for the time being. We cannot get a message to them, so perhaps it is best to simply wait.

Thank you, guys. You really are a great community & I hope this works out. <3

A beautiful post. :3 I was

A beautiful post. :3 I was thinking the same. I saw this person Thursday night as well.

Can we prove this person's a hacker? Nope.
There's no way we can prove if they aren't one either, but does it matter?

It's just one person. Honestly, he/she's first one I have ever seen do this hack in my time here as well.

I've always made the witch

I've always made the witch hunt connection myself, but I love this one as well.
"I shall say that this was made by all of you." <- that line...I have a smug little smile now, it makes me happy.

Which deer are you in that

Which deer are you in that screen-shot, Nine?

I never said I was in it,

I never said I was in it, Ravyn.

Well I'm glad you all are

Well I'm glad you all are being so kind and passive about this.
I wish people were as nice to me when Ephra and I did it. (:

Thank you for posting

Thank you for posting this.

I hear it screamed and see it carried like a sacred banner that this forest was meant to be a calm and peaceful place. So many things are scorned and shunned and met with anything but what is trumpeted as the reason behind the action.

Beat down the agitators with brash and violent words or actions so 'peace' can be had again.

Something doesn't ring quite right about that.

I have nothing against others

I have nothing against others showing their outrage towards them in-game, which might sound weird as I'm very much against harassment/fighting etc. But the sooner the person gets the picture and stops on their own accord so they're not followed at every turn, the better. This hack isn't something one can just do overnight, I'm almost certain they know full well what they're doing, which is disappointing in itself.

Let us not forget that some much loved members got harassed for working this out before it became a problem and M&A expressed their distaste. I don't recall reading very much in their defense, unlike in this little situation which is worse. Yes, it's wrong to jump on the person despite the fact they are very much in the wrong, however, no-one wants anything that could jeopardize the forest and force M&A's hand to do something we all might not like, which is why I think most of this is in defense of our game rather than simply "You are a hacker, you're different and we don't like it".

I myself have not seen this person in game, and even if I do I will not go near or chase after them etc as it's not something I do anyway. However, I will defend those who wish to be in their company and tell them off. If or when it gets to the point of half the forest chasing them on a daily basis, I will of course change my tune as it would therefore be beyond control, but let's hope that it will not last long enough for that to happen =)

This is just an alternative point of view... I don't want anyone to feel that their view on it is wrong, this is sort of... a mix of both, you could say. There's no right or wrong thing to do as far as those with context are concerned (I assume newer members would not harass having no knowledge of before), but I do try to keep in mind that their presence is much unwelcome in forest for a very legitimate reason, and that it can't be overlooked easily by those who were involved directly or in-directly in the previous hoo-hah =)

Of course, Dag. It's

Of course, Dag. It's refreshing to see an opinion on this that's written rationally for once and not just more raging, thank you.

I have mixed feelings on this, I always have. I'm convinced it only becomes a problem when it's made into one, but if they know how to go antlerless, I also understand that nothing's stopping them from trying other things, as well. :/

Like I told VCG, I hope this blows over- either they get the message or just go away because of the harassment. I don't want Michael to have to intervene because someone's meddling where they shouldn't.

Agreed

Agreed <3

And yes let's give them a little credit haha; they surely should be intelligent enough to put two and two together eventually if being in the forest becomes unpleasant for them for this reason =)

I admit that I did chase this

I admit that I did chase this person late last night, but it was all just for the heck of it. I'm not boiling angry over this whole no antlers thing, I just thought it would be fun to harass the little bugger for a while. Now that I've had my fun, I won't do it again. <3

Oh, and I'm pretty sure this user knows what they are doing. When I encountered them last night, they were laughing hysterically as if they thought everyone had finally given up on bothering them. This behavior suggest that they not only know perfectly well what they are doing, but they know it's wrong and they're getting a kick out of it.

I think we are all being

I think we are all being played.
Theres almost no chance someone who was/is not on this site or forum would even have any idea of how to do this. No, it's not right to harrass them because there is still that chance of innocence and even if they were guilty it's still very immature. But lets act mature here and be the stronger force; Speak with M&A, prove our own innocence that it was not of our doing as we stopped when told to, and plead that this person be stopped or if theres no other way, just shrugged off. Harrassing this person in the forest is senseless. "Don't feed the troll", just cut it off from the source.

/Didn't make sense, blah.

" Harrassing this person in

" Harrassing this person in the forest is senseless. "Don't feed the troll", just cut it off from the source."

Michael has suggested making Spelldata server-side, but that sounds.. unnecessarily messy. Sad And probably even costly. The most I'd hope for is they get the picture and change their mind, there are doe alternatives. :/
