She slinks her way out of the tree, akin to a serpent roused from its den. Remembering her experience with the fawn from earlier, she bows with a precise elegance, but keeps her senses heightened in the event she needs to flee. She looks at him for a short moment before addressing him.

Why, hello, stranger. She says, her voice filled with a polite curiosity. I am Madoka. And what might your name be?

----

(What a handsome guy.)

Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.

The Large beast does not rise

The Large beast does not rise as the vampire emerges from her resting place to greet him. He slowly turns his head to face her, green and red eyes glowing within the darkness of his mask. Ears press forward, listening, taking in every movement and sound. A beat follows her inquiry before he parts the jaws of the mask and raises a large paw to his throat. He pats it twice, slowly, before returning his paw to the earth and giving a small shake of his head, the skull mask closing.

----

(fffft thank you <3 If only he could speak. Seduce her with his good looks and rough voice.)

A quiet sigh of acknowledgement follows. She almost feels as if her heart has freed itself of its bindings and is plummeting down to the abyss. It is then that the roots grip just a bit tighter, grounding her and reminding her that she is still in a foreign place. She only heeds it a little; she is long used to this tug-of-war.

You poor soul... She says, genuinely. Who robbed you of your voice? She thinks, genuinely. He seems perfectly healthy aside from it, and she is certainly impressed by his appearance. Though his lack of a voice must be a great burden to him, she knows. Looks can only go so far.

May I have a seat with you, at least? She asks him, tilting her head just a little, as if to indicate she is of no threat to him. Even if he can't speak, it does not mean she can't simply idle beside him - or ask questions in different ways.

---

(LOL i know rite. She'd probably be all over that too lmao.)

A low rumble vibrates his chest at her comment and his eyes seem to blaze unhappily before returning to a calm level stare. Bael had never been referred to as a poor soul before and he had never been one for pity, it didn't taste right in his mouth. At her following question he regards her for a moment before waving a paw out and giving a small bow of his head, politely offering a seat wherever she liked. Crossing one paw over the other he turns his head forward to stare into the birch forest, ears twitching now and again as certain sounds drifted their way.

(He used to get all the ladies back home. All of them. Now he a big beasty.)
Mjrn's picture

Thank you, She says to him,

Thank you, She says to him, neatly folding her legs up and lowering herself to the ground beside him, close enough to make her presence known, but just far enough away that their bodies did not touch. The large moth, who was at place on the tree, made her own self known by the audible flapping of her wings as she settled along Madoka's back.

For a brief moment, the only sounds were the sounds of the birds and insects in the Forest around them; now and then, bellows could be heard in the far distance, but she felt no sense of worry. She was already beginning to acclimate to the new world and its soundtrack - though, in reality, it was no different from any other place she had been to.

But the vampire looks up at the stranger, curious and finding herself wishing to hold a conversation. Though his voice was lacking, a simple yes or no questionnaire could suffice.

Permit me to ask: Was it in this place that you were stripped of your tongue?
Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.

A slight flick of an ear was

A slight flick of an ear was the only recognition to the moth settling onto the pale's back, the large beast continuing to stare off silently. The tip of his tail twitched slightly from side to side as they sat in silence, just listening and perhaps waiting for more questions to be sent his way. He wasn't disappointed when she spoke up, feeling her eyes on him. His ears twitched and he gave a nod without hesitation, a bitter look crossing his features behind the bone mask.
Mjrn's picture

As she had feared; this

As she had feared; this Forest was no different from her old forest. The stillness was merely an illusion, and Death was always watching and waiting.

Feeling satisfied with her conclusion, she pressed him further. Was it perhaps done by someone close to you?
Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.

A shake of the head and the

A shake of the head and the beast's tail flicked unhappily before he wrote a single word in the dirt between them, wondering if she was one of the few here that knew how to read. The longer he went without his voice the more Bael found that it was a hindrance to himself. While he hadn't talked much to begin with, this was just upsetting. Conversations were rather hard to keep when you couldn't use the voice you were given.

Read?
Mjrn's picture

She watches as he scratches

She watches as he scratches out the word. Her eyes glaze over the letters before a small smile creases her face.

'Tis been a long time since I have seen written language. She muses. But yes, I can read. What do you wish to tell me?
Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.

Ears and tail twitch and the

Ears and tail twitch and the words is erased with a large paw before more are written with a single claw, his writing fluid and neat. Once finished he'd cross his paws once more and flick an ear in her direction, waiting for some response after reading.

A debt paid to someone distasteful
Mjrn's picture

Her muzzle bunches in ire

Her muzzle bunches in ire towards the information. Silence was an underrated weapon and also the greatest payment. But for Madoka, such a payment was too heavy; it was something she would never wish upon anyone.

What could you have done to require so great a payment? She asks, no longer looking at him, and instead staring off into an empty horizon.

Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.

From the corner of his eye

From the corner of his eye Bael saw the distaste on her features and could not fault her for it. To have your tongue removed was a large price to some, while to the beast, it was but a small thing at the time.

I needed saving

The answer was simple and perhaps even a bit sad. He had never needed help before, and the moment he had, he had needed it badly. Badly enough to seek help from someone he hated. His head turned slightly to look over at her before he looked out as she was.
Mjrn's picture

As she looked down at the

As she looked down at the text, she chuckled quietly, feeling darkly humoured by the fact. She had remembered when the humans said such things, and how often it led to the worst that history had to offer.

She shook her head, ridding herself of the thoughts. It would do no good to take another's tragedy lightly when she was mere inches from them. I must apologize. She told him. 'Tis just that I have seen and heard such things before.

She pulls her gaze away from his eyes to look over his tines; she couldn't help but admire the way they curved and jutted upwards, as if looking to tear open the sky, spilling stars all over the Forest floor. What a glorious moment it would be, she thought.

She looked at him again however as she spoke again.

Who or what was it that you needed saving from?

Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.

Her laugh did not bother him

Her laugh did not bother him in the slightest, which surprised Bael to some degree. Perhaps it was because he cared little should he be laughed at by others. Every time she spoke an ear or two would turn to her, showing that he was always listening even if he did not look at her directly. As his gaze took in the scene before them he felt her gaze running over something above his head, an ear flicking in response. Was she taking in the appearance of his tines? Did she admire or fear them? The beast wondered silently before feeling her gaze shift and her voice finding him again. A blink, followed by another before he scratched out something more in the dirt.

Death
Mjrn's picture

For Madoka, death was an

For Madoka, death was an inevitable fact of life; one could only escape it so many times before it got what it had come for. But the vampiress knew that laying judgement before knowledge was foolish, and often fatal.

So, do you fear death? She asked, looking at him directly as she always did when she spoke. She seemed to hesitate a little before another sentence slipped free from her mouth. Or, was it for the sake of someone else?
Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.

Ears turned back as the male

Ears turned back as the male lowered his gaze, the fur along his spine starting to stand up. Claws extended and then retracted as the beast let out a long sigh and reached out to write his answer, an almost sad hesitancy in it.

I thought someone needed me
Mjrn's picture

She tensed a little as he

She tensed a little as he did, but not enough to stir the flower that rested between her shoulders. She watched the way he wrote out the answer, feeling an ache in her chest as the words took to life in the ground. As the response swirled in her mind, only one question came to her.

And, did you need them?
Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.

Bael didn't respond for the

Bael didn't respond for the longest time, his ears pressed back as he stared off into the endless forest. He was still, motionless in that moment. After so long the beast would scratch out an answer.

Yes
Mjrn's picture

For a brief moment, Madoka

For a brief moment, Madoka pondered if perhaps the beast had no answer at all. Such emotions, such needs, needed thought and confirmation, she knew. As the answer finally came, she too sat in thought for a while. Would she have done the same thing? As an outsider, her answer was no. But under the wrong circumstances, anything was possible. Madoka secretly hoped that, should she finally find someone for herself, she would never have to be forced into such a situation.

She turned her head to address him again.

And do you still need them?
Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.

Bael thought the conversation

Bael thought the conversation would end there, that perhaps the doe would change the subject or fall silent all together, but she didn't and her question caused a sting in his chest. Memories of how he came to be in this forest in the first place pressed to the forefront of his mind, forcing him to briefly relive his choice.

They're gone

His response didn't answer her question in black and white, but it was the best he would give her. Things had gone south quickly before he had been thrust into the forest and he wasn't sure just how he felt about it all.
Mjrn's picture

'Tis a shame, she thought,

'Tis a shame, she thought, reminding herself that such was what she could have to contend with someday. She shivered slightly, causing the moth resting on her back to flutter her wings in annoyance from being disturbed. She hummed a quiet apology, before returning her attention to her company.

My condolences, she told him, and the thought that she didn't even learn his name suddenly came to her.

Forgive my shift in conversation, she said with a hint of embarrassment, But I never did acquire your name, stranger.
Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.

Shrugging softly he let her

Shrugging softly he let her apology roll off him. Bael was both sad and yet content with the loss of Devin. An ear twitched and he turned his head to look at her, hearing the embarrassment in her tone. A small, amused smile touched his lips before he wrote his name out for her.

Bael Fraser
At your service

While she couldn't see it, he smiled charmingly behind his mask, holding a paw against his chest as he bowed his head.
Mjrn's picture

A small and amused, but

A small and amused, but good-natured, giggle bubbled from her throat. She didn't try to hold back the smile that crossed her face.

You certainly are charming. She commented. 'Tis a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Bael Fraser. She rolled his first name on her tongue as she said it; it was a pleasant sound, and a name she had never heard before. If anything, that would make it far easier to remember.

If you do not mind me inquiring further; how long have you lived here in this Forest? Were you born here? Though she wasn't sure if he was growing tired of the conversations or not, she felt relaxed and curious enough to continue asking questions and pursuing his history.

The more she could learn about the Forest, and its residents, the better.
Account previously Mjrn, returned to Veedeer.
