Lay of the land

below cut for semi large image.

He was as if a kingdom, a land all his own, legs like fallen pillars upon the ground, bone gray and alive with a creeping darkness that smelled like something very old and very slow. Upwards the bones curved, as if part of the earth itself, lining upwards, along a spine like railroad tracks. a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command pierced the very skies

His jaws fall open like tumbling boulders, cracking against themselves, a wretched tongue of inky black lolling from its cave-like home in his head, seeming to lap at the bellies of the clouds as if they were no more than sheep to be chased at his leisure.

Tendrils rolling from his body, scorched the flora around him, he was a walking wasteland, tar-like tenticals binding themselves about the branches of the tree that dared try to loom above him, and in the silence shook it to its core, his head falling downwards once more even as it withered and died.

"thine branches shade not the wicked. Thou shalt not shade me"

And his head ground downwards once more
