Past: the hermit--but reversed. This is a major arcana card, it is usually a very meaningful and eventful card. He says there has been separation and individualism in the past. Since I have drawn him upside down, he shows obstinacy-- stubbornness. He is saying that relating to your mother, their might have been refusal to face certain problems, that she knows she created by herself. She may have been separated from you because of her own inability to look for a solution to an issue at the time. She didn't adapt to a situation-- instead, she refused it, and remained... stubborn.
Present: the reversed seven of pentacles. Now... they are tricky things. They are very materialistic cards that usually relate to money and trade. This card represents your mother's present, remember? Normally this card says that there is worry concerning finances, and the trade of goods. If your mother is from this forest, I don't see how this could relate to her at all. Not much goes on here, in terms of money. She is facing an urgent need to simplify something in her life-- she is overwhelmed by a trade of some sort and I guess needs to get it together! Seems like wherever she is, she is busy trying to make ends meet.
Future: the reversed ace of cups. I think this is a good card to represent your future. A good way to finish the reading, friend Midori. Because this is a cup, you can look at it in a glass-half-full or glass-half-empty kind of way. The interpretation of the card and how you handle it is all up to you. You are the dictator of the cup cards. You can choose to embrace them or suffer because of them, regardless of what they mean. But this ace of cups? It directly ties to family. The ace of cups says that in the future there are fears about family matters or problems with children. It says that your mother and her familial ties to you could be ruined because she is overworked. She is on the cusp at this point in time. The future is the time for her to act if she doesn't want to lose you forever. She'll have started to lose faith in herself and the tie between the two of you. She hasn't forgotten you, Midori! She seems to be trying very hard right now, and in the future to keep the two of you linked.
She needs you just as much as you need her, it seems. Look hard and long for her, like you have been. Don't give up! The more you give in, the more she will as well. I know that you may start to lose hope that you will ever see her, but maybe you are closer than you think.
