Kelpies are beasts known for devouring their prey by luring them to a body of water and then promptly drowning them; usually through either charm or beauty. Daimhin is no exception, although her predatory nature is much more pronounced. She is not a kelpie in the traditional sense, showing very little evidence of equine in her outward appearance, although her blood runs completely with water faerie.
Daimhin's appetite often revolves around eating prey that she has lured and drowned into the water. However, due to living in the forest and having forest blood, this is an appetite she has learned to subdue very well for the most part. The more stable Kelpie is, the less likely she is to ever consider a weak, old, or young deer potential prey.
Hydration for Kelpie relies on more than just drinking; a lot of it relies on routinely keeping her entire body in check with moisture. As long as Kelpie has access to the pond--in a clean and untainted form--then she's usually fine. Her hydration will entirely affect her stability. If the kelpie can't reach a source of water in time, her physical appearance will start rapidly deteriorating, as well as her mental health. This will usually make for a much more volatile and frenzy-driven kelpie--and if Daimhin manages to give in to her instinct, it'll put her on a much more violent drive, and she is much more willing to be aggressive whether she is near a body of water or not.
Water is healing. Daimhin's healing process is robust when she is recovering in the water. Keep her away from water, and her injuries will not heal at all. This is something that usually has to be learned by careful observance by enemies, not knowledge that one would know off of the top of their head, but it is a definite weak spot.
INGAME SET- koi pelt/swan antlers/rd mask/minideer spell.
yesyes currently she is much smaller than what she will grow into because she is very young.
Her appearance can be very "swampy" in nature. Although she has the form of a generic deer, she *will* grow to be quite bulkier and masculine than the average doe. A lot of her body has webs and ridges on it--her back has a spinal ridge similar to what many fish have. Her ears are webbed and pressed very close to her head and crest/arc upwards. The back of her legs directly above her feet have webbed ridges on them.
The ridge on her back eventually tapers into a very long tail that ends like a "mermaid" tail, and is obviously made for swimming. Really, Kelpie's entire body seems to be made to easily swim through water--although it isn't particularly streamlined, it's obvious she has the strength to carry her body weight around when swimming.
Kelpie's coat has fur in some places, particularly around the scruff of the neck and the midway-to-up for her forelegs, but she's mostly covered in very smooth, dark jade-green skin that is incredibly cold to the touch. Upon closer inspection, this smooth skin is broken up by a more scaly texture at certain points that have a mottled appearance and take on more vivid green hues--occasionally even sapphire blue scales that emit a sort of glowy radiance at night. In the dark, her shadow almost seems to reflect like murky water due to these scales.
Her face is like that of a normal deer, although her muzzle has much more sharper edges, and her very sharp teeth can be freely seen jutting out from her mouth. Kelpie has heterochromia. Although both of her eyes are a bright, predatory yellow, one of them has a splash of blue in the corner.
Her neck is covered in a horse-esque mane that is a somewhat darker colour than the rest of her body. Perpetually dripping with water, occasionally has strands of blue in it similar to her blue scales.
Although they're rather small nubs at the moment, Kelpie will grow to have intimidating antlers that focus more on being able to gore and inflict damage on an opponent than size. This means that they allow for much better motor activity than large antlers would. these antlers will often be covered in pond muck or vine like material.
Awaken.
You are a weapon of the water; you are powerful. Even if it is not apparent now, you can feel the blood running through your body confirm this; the water you are birthed in is vital to you, it is what compels your blood to keep circulating. The water is in tune with you akin to how your heart is in tune with the rest of your body. You know you are living in water that is small, cramped, somewhat stagnant; but it is the water you have been given, so you take it without complaint. It keeps you alive.
You, however, are a bastard child; you are not in your purest form. Clearly, you have deviated from the path followed by those similar of blood to you, for there is little similar appearance between you and your kin. Although you have not seen them, you know this in your heart. You are a crossbreed between deer and kelpie.
It soon becomes apparent to you that there are creatures around your beloved pond. You can smell them and hear them from your watery cradle; at first, you find their presence obnoxious. Sometimes you know they are even in your pond. How dare they, these land creatures? And you soon realize, as you grow, that these are your chosen source of prey; very different than what a more normal kelpie would chose, but this is what you are given.
And yet, you know that dragging one down into the depths and ripping into them mercilessly will somehow bring upon you a terrible fate. They have ties. Families, friends. Although you do not care about them in the slightest, you know that what seems like cold-blooded to them will bring unwanted consequences. So you learn to quell your desires, instead focusing on the strength given to you by the water. Because you're strong like that, you tell yourself, proud of your ability to somehow cheat what should be your biological duty.
But you do grow bitter because of this. That you cannot simply bring a watery grave upon whoever you wish, based upon the whims of your hunger. These beings would provide a much more satisfactory meal than the fish and frogs and other creatures you have to fill yourself up on.
And one day, you rise out of the pond, when the attachments to your body grow longer and allow you to stand on the gumpy, mucky pond floor; you take your first breath of air, realizing that gills are not your only way to breath. The air is cold, and lacks the comfort given to you by the water, so you do not prefer it most of the time; but it is there.
You realize you know how to communicate with the lifeforms that you have grown to adore and hate and crave; they look like you. They are like you, and you can certainly afford to make a few friends to better yourself. You are growing.
??? Somewhere in the muck near the bottom of the pond. Carefully guarded.
Femur Left femur of what appears to be cervine in nature. Found it somewhere buried in the pond. Fun to chew on when she's bored.
