There once was a fish with a belly as vast as the universe. When the great fish opened it's maw, it could swallow fleets of ships whole. Day and night, it fed on what the world gave it, but no matter what it consumed, it's bottomless stomach churned in painful hunger.

Every day it cried to the life-giving sky, and begged for more to eat. The sky never answered. The fish grew greedy, and in spite of the sky, began to eat the world itself. It breached the waters to gulp down archipelagos, it chewed away at the earth until land-dwellers began to fall in and drown, only to then be eaten as well.

Before the great fish could swallow the last island, the Sun came down, hardly able to fit his four hooves on what remained of the world. He scorned the fish, "Your greed is what makes you hungry, and so you were never full. As punishment, I will strip you of your size and your power, and you will forever wander a place with enough food to fill you, but still you will never tame your stomach. I will put you upright, on four legs like my own, and you will use your legs to chase your hunger fruitlessly."

And it was so, that the fish was reduced from a world-eater to an animal too small to even fill the Endless Forest's ponds. The pitiful Jurupari now sulks in and around the waterways of the forest, looking for someone unfortunate to fill it's belly.

Scent: Pond water, wet fur, and rotten fish.

Their shape isn't quite that of a deer or fish, but a rudimentary mix of both that seems kept alive merely by some higher beings will, forced to live out their punishment. One may notice their hooves are inferior for swimming, yet they stay water-bound more often than not, as they seem to breathe best within it. Jurupari's fur and scales are slimy, and unpleasant to the touch.

Sharp, carnivorous teeth akin to a piranha's line their mouth, a feature often concealed due to their lack of speech. Their body language often comes off as hostile, even if they mean to express neutrality.

Lurker
Neutral, negative-leaning. Animal-like mutualism.
- Lurker's size, alongside various other features lend credence to Jurupari's idea that it makes for a swell hunting companion. The two often butt heads over territory, but will cooperate with one another when seeking a meal large enough to feed the both of them.
