I know it's your deer, and not you. But she needs to understand that not having a mate isn't the end of the world. I mean, look how many deer there are who are happy without mates, even if they've lost a love in the past.
That's why I said I would make Scape speak about the past. He had a mate whom he loved, but then her human said she was going on vacation sometime for 2 months. She left, so we both figured it was the vacation. He waited, knowing she would return. 2 months passed, and there was no sign from his mate. A month later, Sarie told me she had seen that Scape's mate's human (trying to avoid names, but gah, this is weird O.o) had been seen on WolfQuest, meaning she was back. But she never let me know that she was...so Scape became depressed from being abandoned without word like that. But the point is, he moved on. He's back to his normal self again, he's not looking for a mate, BUT if should so happen to find someone again, he's completely up for it.
This is how I play the game: I hope for my deer to find friends; I let them love if it happens, but I don't make them search.

...sorry for the long, over-worded post. I probably didn't need to say all that. ^^; Scape's wondering why I did. XD;
