When you enter the game press 'Esc'. This will bring up a menu. Click on Network, then, when you are connected a login box will appear. Enter your user and pass you use for your account and you will log in and have a symbol. (: Hope that helps.
Are you sure you have 3.31? The symbols don't display properly if you don't.

If that doesn't work, maybe your player identification somehow got turned off? Look under display and make sure the show others slider is at all.
If it's none of those, I'm not really sure why your picto isn't showing...
