“Oh but child, names are a wonderful thing.” The voice swirled up around the boy, speaking as though from his shoulder. “With a name, everyone will accept you. If you don’t have one, well…nobody can expect to love someone if they don’t have a name.” The boy frowned. “You understand that’s just the way things work, but you know, I like you kid. I also just so happen to have a name I’m not using.”





Puzzled but all together pleased with himself, the spirit watched the little symbol twinkle merrily between the ears of the sleeping fawn. It ebbed and shone with the heartbeat of the little deer, happy to finally have someone to which it belonged. “Well my little Hook, sleep tight and dream of mommy.”
