Try keeping a sheet of clean paper between your hand and the page you're drawing on. I think it's called a cover sheet?
You can also use a tissue or tortillion to smudge instead of your fingers (if you are using your fingers or hand). Smudging with a tissue picks up a lot of the extra graphite so it won't smudge on nearly anything else.

I appreciate the advice, but...
Having a paper cover up part of the drawing while I'm working would drive me insane. Then I'd need to carefully lift and place it every time I wanna work on a different part. I could never get used to using that technique.
And while I have used a tortillion in an art class where they provided some, I like using my fingers to smudge (it's more like the side of my pinky, as that's what will normally get any pencil on it). Nothing in this drawing wasn't smudged on purpose.
Awesome work !!! As usual !!
