Gay and conflicted about it since he does not believe he should feel that way, causing him to lash out. Can be observed continually tormenting other guys, especially those who exhibit concern and care for one another, and frequently uses homophobic slurs, which is somewhat telling; he is ashamed of who he is, so he uses that terminology to lash out and project some of that onto others. In reality, he is a fearful youngster who is uncertain about his own sexuality because of his zealot father. Raised by a Christian Pastor and potentially cult leader has left him with little room to grow, as he has been told how to conduct his life since birth and has been taught his entire life that being attracted to his own sex is unnatural and shameful. As a result, he makes harsh remarks about others; he is afraid to be "too close" to his own sex for fear of being classified as "queer" or "gay." He is scared of being perceived as a decent guy by others, viewing it as a sign of weakness in the same way that his father views homosexuality. He appears to have two primary emotions: anger and apathy. Anyone who attempts to

All I want to do is write this scene where one character treats another character gently and the other one is just totally undone by it in a “this gentleness upsets me far more than all the traumatizing things that have happened to me in this entire story because the suffering was pretty much expected whereas this is just…outside of my comfort zone” and somehow this is difficult. with him is typically received with hostility or indifference. It leads many people to believe that he is a simple, ignorant creature with no feelings or emotional intelligence, yet this is false. Something went wrong with his emotional development when he was forced to strictly adhere to the typical masculine gender role; restricting his emotions and focusing on toughness and aggression. He has no idea how to deal with emotions, whether his own or others'. So he became emotionally stunted, angry, and apathetic.
• Shuts down when loved ones express anger or frustration.
• Turns to alcohol or movies/shows when he doesn’t know how to deal with something sad.
• Lashes out in anger when criticized or confronted because he doesn’t know another way to handle the feelings of guilt, shame or embarrassment.
Despite his reservations about his faith and its contradictory messages about the morality of his sexuality, he is generally pious. Bruises are frequently observed on him, which may indicate that he is physically abused by his father, that he fights frequently with others, or both.
