"Will do nothing"? Uh?
In the beginning of the game, you're a fawn. The magic will stick to you only for a short while. It takes you a month to grow up to be an adult, when all spells will be saved and you're able to keep your pelts, masks and antlers.

Magic then. You can't change your own appearance, you have to ask for others to help you. It can be a little tricky because the only way you can speak in the game is by body language.
Rubbing a pine tree and eating it's pine cone gives you an antler spell.
Eating mushrooms from a tree will give you a mask spell.
You can get a pelt spell by laying down very near to sleeping deer.
You can turn other people into bats, doves, squirrels, frogs and mini deer by laying in a mushroom circle. You can't move your cursor, because your deer has to fall asleep in the circle.

Hmm... If there's no one near you when you have the spell, you can find an icon with X mark on it. By clicking it you sneeze off the spell, and you have to go get it again. The icon glows yellow with different mark on it if you're able to cast the spell.
