Having issues with keeping spells. Help?

Eh, so like, forgive me if I am posting in the incorrect location or the information I am requesting can be found somewhere already, as it stands, I'm already lost and was reluctant to post anything in fear the answers I seek was yet to be found. But I have been battling for a solution for some months now and have nothing to show for my labor.

My problem is that I simply can not keep any of my spells. No matter what I do I always come back to a naked deer with no strange markings to its pelt nor a mask to adorn its face or a special crown rather than the normal antlers.

I am a full grown stag, and originally thought I perhaps lost everything due to inactivity, but try as I may to dress up my deer once more, nothing lasts. Once the game is closed, regardless of the way I go about shutting it down, I lose all I worked to earn.

I tried to find others with the same issue, but nothing seem to match exactly. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but to no avail, and I checked into this Spell Saver thing people speak of, but that seems to be to save a set or outfit if you will, but it seems awfully troublesome and I believe there is an easier way to just keep what had been last cast on you. I mean, unless I have not been informed of a drastic change, you should be able to log out and log back on to find your deer the same as you left it, yes?

Additional information, I am currently using the newest form of Windows, Windows 7 it is called? Something like that.

Don't log out or you will

Don't log out or you will always loose your pelts ! Only disconnect with the little x on the right side !
Hope this will work for you Eye

I'm not sure, but maybe if

I'm not sure, but maybe if you don't want to use SpellSaver why not try just copying the spelldata in your TEF folder, placing it somewhere else, then attempting to paste it back in whenever you want to login? - I'm not sure if it'll work like that exactly. - I know you have to push the X(The X in the bottom panel to the right, where your actions/menu button is), when you want to quit, everything else seems to make spelldata vanish entirely(at least it did for me). Otherwise SpellSaver is pretty easy. You get a set you like, save it with Spellsaver, when you exit click the X at the bottom, then you should be able to use SpellSaver to restore it next time you want ti get on. - I had to manually copy the spelldata from my SpellSaver folder and paste it into the TEF userdata folder though before it'd work.

IDK, worth a shot?

Does your pictogram stay the

Does your pictogram stay the same when you re-open the game? Or are you a guest again?

Have you tried running TEF as an Administrator? Right click on TEF icon -> Run as Administrator.

Otherwise this sounds like a very annoying glitch, I haven't come across that one yet! If no one has an idea within the community site that works, try asking the question at the official Tale of Tales support forums, the people there might know more...

€ - If you have Windows 7 and want to copy the SpellData to give it a try, don't forget to hit "Compatibility files" in the "userdata" folder.

I have the 3.31 one

I have the 3.31 one

The pictogram is the same,

The pictogram is the same, and normally it logs in right away, but I was a guest when I did the Run as Administrator thing.

And I do not understand the whole copy SpellData thing because I can not find any SpellData in my TEF folder.

With windows 7 , you will

With windows 7 , you will have to go to your Tef folder and search for userdata.
Click on it and now you see preferences .cgr and spelldata .cgr .
Before clicking on spelldata.cgr ,you will have to click on compatibity files on the menu bar above !
Now there is the spelldata .cgr that you can change with another spelldata .cgr saved on your desktop (For Example )

I don't know if I'm doing

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but neither the SpellSaver of going copying SpellData seems to be working =.= though I did keep some flowers on my antlers in one of my attempts, but it vanished the next time I opened the game up and I was back to being a 100% normal stag.

Have you tef installed in

Have you tef installed in "programmes x86 " ? This is important if you are using win 7 (64bits)

Not to sound stupid, though I

Not to sound stupid, though I am sure this whole issue isn't making me look to smart, but what exactly is that? I mean, is that a program that goes with TEF or something I need to google and download/install separately?
Flyleaf's picture

No , you don´t sound stupid

No , you don´t sound stupid Eye Exclaim
If you have windows 7 (32bits) you will have your programmes located on your harddisc "Programmes ", if you have Win 7 (64bits) , the programmes like Tef will be located in "programmes x86" .
Only the progs who are in 64 bits will be located in programmes ( on win 7 version with 64 bits ) !

That's where you would have

That's where you would have saved it. Program Files or Program Files(x86).

Go to your start menu, click computer, Click OS (C:), and then looks for the Program Files & Program Files(x86) folders. Look through both, encase you saved it in either or. You're looking for a folder called "Tale of Tales", which should be in one or the other folder I said above. Once located, look for the folder "userdata", within it is "Preferences.cgr" and "SpellData.cgr".

edit: Flyleaf beat me to it. Laughing out loud

I only have a program folder,

I only have a program folder, not programs x86 or anything :/

So you have windows 7 32 bits

So you have windows 7 32 bits .
And i am not sure if you will have to click on compatibity files above on the menu bar ?!
Do as Shamiya said .
So sorry that you have this problems Sad

I believe I have done all as

I believe I have done all as suggested and still nothing =.= I think this game just hates me now. A shame, since I do love it.

This sounds like a very weird

This sounds like a very weird prtoblem, since you SHOULD be able to have your set when you log back in the game. =/ For some reason it doesn´t save your stuff when you close the game... hm. Atleast DO NOT log out of the game, have you tried to close the game just from the menu without logging out? It works for me fine, atleast.
/pointless comment
Ugh, sorry for being so unhelpful.
Flyleaf's picture

Are you running the game in

Are you running the game in full mode or in a window ?
If you have the game running in a window , don't close the game with clicking on the x on the window !
Close the game with x in the right corner below . Maybe this will help Question Eye

My partner has the exact same

My partner has the exact same problem. She never did fix it, but what she does is when the game was loaded and she was logged in, she'd go into the drinkplats and the set she was last in appears once she steps out. Maybe you can try this as well.
