I remembered how I did this before.

Nope, there is no pinecone there.
Go into the pond, click the "drink" action, and then immediately walk away. When you stop, your deer will continue the "drink" action. And it looks like your deer is "drinking" from the ground. Or grazing. It does look a lot like eating a pinecone, though.

There are also some places where you can drink while standing at the edge of the pond, instead of actually in it. The you can drink while facing away from the water, which has kind of the same effect, but it's just more fun doing it a bit further away. Although you might still have to stay pretty close to the pond, I'm not sure if it would work if you go too far.

Actually, that doesn't always work. Interrupting the drink action and then walking away (or running) does though. I used confused to interrupt it since it's such a quick action.

Well, I think if you move

Well, I think if you move away too soon, or too late, it doesn't work. But I was able to get it to work a few times in a row. Your way might be a bit easier, though.
