By the gods
The soft clicking of cloven hooves sounded gently through the trees, a light trip-trapping like the soft fluttering of falling leaves in the autumn.
Lean but sturdy legs moving the animal lightly over the soft earth, a crimson ear twitching at the sound of another creature calling out in the distance, merely instinct, and the sound was ignored.
He snorted, shaking his head to untangle the branches from his regal antlers, shimmering a soft ivory in the sunlight, which was almost constant in the forest.
Almost, because every so often the night did fall, but never without the active consent of the twin gods.
Gods, what were they doing...
the deer flicked an ear again, he'd not heard from them in quite a spell, no doubt displeased with something he had done. Gods were tricky things, even setting a hoof in the wrong spot could end badly sometimes, and nobody knew this better than the very deer whom they were no longer speaking to.
A sigh left the beast, weight shifting to rub against the trunk of a thick oak, eyes half closed, hardly registering the noise of the acorns as they fell about him.
"you two could at least give me a hint" he grumbled, referring to the very two who no longer spoke to him, it is very hard to please someone or, some two, when you do not even know exactly what they want of you.
A soft smile (as best as a deer could smile anyway) graced his lips as the soft glow of the twin statues came into view, only pausing for a moment at the sound of fleeing hoof beats, some riff raff no doubt disrespecting the gods by using it to get a shiny new pelt without caring what their worship was really supposed to be about.
The light cloaked him like a warm blanket, a soft 'mmm' escaping him at the feeling as he eased himself down before them, joints cracking a bit, and he flinched each time.
"what do you want of me" he mumbled gruffly to the immobile peices of stone, blinking slowly, he expected no answer, he received no answer.
His head lowered, still staring up at them.
Ah yes, the gods were hard to please...
he snorted softly.
But that wouldn't stop him from trying.
