~Forest Folktale~
The Hollow Tree
Hello, little fawns. I guess I have some vistitors tonight, and thats always a good thing. Now, im assuming you want a story. Which one tonight? A spooky one, a happy one, a sad one. Oh how can we ever choose? Hmm....... Ah yes! The tale of The Hollow Tree or however you would like to call it. That tale is probably the only Forest Folktale that is sutiable for fawns, though you may consider the story of De Drinkplats. Lets begin our tale and perhaps I can learn your names along the way.
Our tale begins here, in the Endless Forest, with a brave deer named Pine. Pine was a muscular deer and was respected among all others. What made him so brave and tough? Well, it is said that Pine was given some power from the Twin Gods. Ha! Believe that, a deer that is the only one that gets some power like that from the Twin Gods. The Twin Gods would never allow that, they like it to be fair. Anyways, this power was stronger then any other. With this power, no harm would come to him nor the forest. So many deer respected him for this, but he had something missing in his life. I see your eyes widen, little fawns. Is it true that such a deer would be missing something? It is true. He was missing half of his heart, the piece that would give him love and kindness.
Now, the Twin Gods never told him that, for they thought he would loose his faith in the forest and stop protecting it. Pine thought he had all his heart together, but you should not always think what you have not heard or seen. But eventually, the Twin Gods asked him over for a talk. They told him, and he erupted in anger. Pine quickly made it wear off, trying to look happy. The Twin Gods told him the only way to get the piece of the heart was to do a good deed for someone. Was protecting the forest not enough? Apparently, yes. It was heart breaking to tell him, but the Twin Gods couldn't do anything about it. No deer could believe their ears when they heard the news. But it was true, true enough to believe in.
Soon rain season came to the forest. Every deer was looking for shelter, all helping each other find a place to stay. The grass became to soggy to eat but the pond and De Drinkplats were full of water. Though I doubt any deer would even bet a year of thick mushrooms to battle the storm. As Pine was walking over to his shelter, he noticed a young deer and a fawn trudging through the rain. He came over to them to help. ''Help them find a place to stay, and the piece of heart is yours.'' said the Twin Gods. They looked all over the Endless Forest for shelter, but no place was to be spared. Not even the old ruins had a place. Every deer was somewhere out of rain. They soon came to a huge tree, larger then the old ruins and a tree stacked together. There was no way into it, not even the tiniest of holes. Suddenly, Pine got an idea. He backed up far away, then charged at the tree at top speeds faster then any other deer. The tree smashed open, leaving a entrance into it.
As soon as they got in, the Twin Gods came with the piece of heart. ''This is yours now. Use your heart wisely.'' they told him. Pine added it to his heart, and from then on, kidness and love was the only thing accepted by him.
So now you know, little fawns, how The Hollow Tree came to be. Now settle down and go to sleep, i will be here when you awaken for your journey back home. Just look at the stars and moon, and close your eyes to fall asleep.
