Before the Forest Became Endless

Deer-folk could enter and exit the forest as pleased. Anything could enter, including the humans.

Many moons ago, the humans came into the forest, building idols to worship, bridges to make walking easier, and they made the Temple. The humans brought spears and bows with them, sending the deer-folk into hiding. They watched with sadness as their beautiful forest was left to be trampled on by these creatures.

They moved stones, cut down trees, even used the Twin Gods Idol as a toilet. Their stench filled the forest, and the deer-folk were powerless to stop them. But then, one deer had a plan.

"Let's talk to our gods, they will help us! They can get rid on these humans!" Deer-folk rejoiced in the idea, and at night, they made their move. Each and every one of them bowed and prayed to the Twin Gods, waiting for them to respond. Stag, doe, and fawn alike.

But nights passed without the gods answering. However, the deer-folk were faithful, and knew that the gods were on their way.

So they continued to pray.

Finally, the gods answered, the statues moving apart and splitting into two. They were here. All the deer-folk rose up, speaking at once, clamoring for the gods to listen.

"We are going to die with these humans here!"

"Get rid of these humans!"

"They are destroying the forest!"

The gods both shouted, "Silence! We can't hear you with you all shouting. Now, what is it that you seek," they ask a lone deer in the front of the crowd.

"To get rid of these humans, they are destroying the forest!" And with that, the gods started a storm. They struck lighting down onto the Temple, raining their rage down upon the humans. They acted so suddenly, that the deer-folk were stunned, but then they cheered. The humans will be gone forever!

As the humans ran, a bubble around the forest encased it, making it so nobody could get out. A few humans escaped, but the bubble captured most of them. The gods turned them into deer, but the only difference was that they kept their human faces.

"Both you and the humans will learn to get along. They will learn your customs just like you will learn theirs," their voices boomed. And they changed the deer-folk to have human faces as will. Deer-folk screeched as their natural faces got changed, as they didn't want to look like humans. But that didn't stop the gods.

Moons later, the Temple became the Ruins, and the original deer-folk with their human-deer counterparts were no longer alive. Their bodies seemed to be gathered around the temple, as their souls were released into the forest. The new deer-folk chased them, prancing around them as the temple became littered with graves.

The escaped humans also had become deer-folk outside the bubble, and as the bubble grows, wandering deer-folk from outside of it come in to be with their species. Nothing else would be able to come in.

And now, the gods will throw fireworks and flowers into the air, commemorating the moment that humans and deer-fold got along, and although some deer have made masks for each other, hiding their human faces, they still live happily, in the Endless Forest.
