Fear in Normality

Ok so I'm TIRED of seeing all the halloween sets used for darker characters >< It's become such a cliche now and they're all starting to look alike so the intimidation factor has just kind of worn off for me all around...
However, I was trying to make a point to someone the other day about how you could make a 'scary' or 'evil' deer using regular set pieces as long as you 'styled' them to right way in your art. Of course as soon as I said this I had to start doodling to see if it was true haha. This was the first one that popped into my head.
Elements used: Orca mask, Orca antlers, Beluga pelt.
It was just too fun not to color and upload haha. The idea is his 'horn' is hollow like a parasaurolophus and so he make's close to the same noise when he roars [you can hear that HERE if you want] His mouth also opens wide and unhinges at the jaw like a snake, and his throat can stretch to devour something half his body size. I may considered drawing this element for kicks some time XD

Great concept! I looove how you adapted the orca mask and how you added those black dots! They somehow remind me of ashes. The shadings are really well done too!

Yessss. "Normal" sets are so much more awesome! I myself have a lot of "evil" regular-set deer/concepts too.
I don't think looks should define the character. As you said, things eventually end up cliche'd. Like when you see a skull-mask you get the impression of an evil or less social deer. Or sometimes even with the pelts. You see a peacock-pelted deer and go thinking "Oh, he must be totally silly and hyper." They can be totally different too, I don't think there is even much of a need to stylize. : D

Unplugged: Thanks! Nice to

Unplugged: Thanks! Nice to hear someone agrees ^^’ And you’re right the stylizing isn’t always necessary. I think one’s deeds are what make them ‘evil’ or not. I mean look at Baal and Walter haha. Their looks weren’t all that intimidating yet they are feared and respecting characters for their deeds. I’m sure there’s more but those are the most distinct I can think of right now haha.

Fin: <3 And haha, I DUB HIM THE FAWN EATER. Runforyourlives.

Rai: OH RIGHT. I DUB HIM THE FAWN EATER, JIMMY!

Anyone is welcome to steal him if they want! XD Doubtful but hey, he’s just a concept.
