"Well hello again!"
Vessel turned around to find Clock trotting up to him. Good morning, Clock.
"Glad to see you've cheered up a bit, mister grumpy guts!" Clock flashed a crooked blue smile at him, beaming is constant cheeriness.
Why did you leave so suddenly yesterday? Vessel raised a brow in slight irritation.
"Ah, I had to be somewhere. One of my friends was expecting me, and I was running a little late, so I had to hurry!"
You did indeed. How do you run so fast?
"Full of questions, aren't we? Well, no matter! I'll be happy to answer them." Clock trotted up so he was next to the tan stag. "Any particular place you'd like to be?"
Vessel looked up in thought for a few moments. Perhaps the Twin Gods hill.
"Just what I was thinking. Hey, that's cool, we even think the same! Oh, I have a few questions for you too, if you don't mind." He started walking, the other immediately following.
Vessel sighed silently, Sure, go ahead...
Clock even seemed to walk faster than usual. Vessel had to gallop slightly to keep up with his pace. Clock tried to slow down, but he just kept speeding back up. He repeated the process of slowing down and speeding up until they reached the hill. Clock plopped down right infront of the left statue, facing away from it to see the view. Vessel sat infront of the right one, a little farther away from Clock. They both took a minute before saying anything.
"So... You first?" The red stag flicked an ear.
Uh... Oh, yes. So, how can you run so fast?
"One of the things granted to me when I gained my knowledge. Before I knew it, I was running past everyone else! Some say they see a little tail of energy following me when I run. I never really pay attention, though."
And how did you gain your knowledge? Vessel looked over to him, to find him sighing.
"Well, long story short... I found a crack in one the statues. The left one to be exact. And, well, being young and curious, I peeked inside. It was just open enough for me to actually see something. Pretty soon, all these lights start flashing and my brain gets filled with all worldly knowledge. I was so confused and full of energy I started to freak out and run around. Well, I guess that's where the speed comes in, because I realized I was zooming past everything without breaking a sweat. It took a few days to calm myself down. And a few weeks to sort my mind out."
What was inside the statue?
"I couldn't really see. All I saw was this glowing orb that got brighter as soon as it 'noticed' me. Thing blew up right in my face!"
... Is that why it's blue?
Clock smiled again, "Yep! My face used to be pale red. Obviously, I'm a red deer, but now it's blue. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned any other color. I'm actually surprised it's still there!"
Vessel glanced behind him, looking at the left statue. It's not cracked anymore.
"No, after sorting myself out, I found some really good mud and patched it up. Seems like the Twin Gods liked that, they made it look like the crack was never there."
I see... So now you know all, correct?
Clock's smile faded a little, but he still held a little cheer. "No, not everything. I only know the knowledge of this world, but not any other. There could be innumerable amounts of knowledge that nobody has every dreamed of yet. I only seem to hold a little of it. Puts things in perspective, doesn't it?"
It does. Vessel paused, but then asked, You say you had questions as well?
Clock's head jerked upward a little, "Oh yeah! I totally forgot. Okay, umm... So, how did you come by your Dream Watching? That can't be something you were born with."
No, no. My parents abandoned me. So while out searching, the Twin Gods visited me, and gave me my power. I was born unable to dream. Apparently that was a genetic curse on my mother's side. So the Twin Gods decided to show mercy on me, and keep me company every so often. And now I'm able to roam the Dream Realm and watch others dream, for I cannot have my own.
"Wowee, your parents abandoned you? Why?"
Because I was mute. My father was a selfrighteous, arrogant stag that wanted the perfect child. Instead, he got me, and was disgusted. And so he convinced my mother to abandon me. As far as I know, I have no siblings. I believe I have the Twin Gods to thank for that.
"You're... so sure you don't have a brother?..."
Vessel looked at him. He studied the blue face infront of him, asking an obviously painful question. Yes. And if I do, I never want to meet him. I have no desire for family.
"That's something you should change, Vessel. Sometime family can be all you have. Sometimes family and save your life." Vessel could see Clock's eyes drooping from weariness.
Sleep, Clock. I did not see you last night. You must rest your mind before trying to preach to a rock.
Clock smirked before laying his head down. "Even rocks can change, Vessel. It just takes a little time, and a little work." Clock seemed to instantly fall into sleep. His face was peaceful, but soon he cringed.
Those dreams, he thought. I can see why he didn't want to sleep last night.
