The thing they are holding onto is a flower chain! But with zero detail heh
And yes for the design itself it's kind of like a taur? but without the torso part and the shoulders are aligned to the front pair of legs, slightly above and in front of them! I'll have to sketch out some muscle structures for them but I'm pretty sure this deer is like 75% fluff!

Now I can't help but imagine them shuffling along in the Forest without lifting their hooves and hands..!

The weird mystical deer aesthetics is a great source of inspiration I'm finding! As for inspiration on the character I can defiantly see where your coming from with the spider relations! I also like to think for the fluff something similar too moths! like this! c:
