Nekumbra's Bio and
her Defenders List. Also here's
more info on Iugulare, Anirapio, and Nekumbra.
Anyone can participate in this roleplay, and there will be
rock hounds to fight as well, but please know your deer's limits. I don't want to see a single deer defeat five rock hounds at once, for example.
To recap - Nekumbra has decided not to eat any more fawns to befriend some of the Endless Forest deer. She ate grubs at first, but she didn't like the taste. Iugulare threatened to send Anirapio to eat her if she didn't get back to thinning out the deer's offspring. At first Nekumbra fell into temptation and ate three fawns, but then she had to regain the deer's trust. She finally learned to hunt squirrels and birds, and since then she has not eaten fawns since.
Iugulare and Anirapio visited Nekumbra again, and gave her three days to eat fawns or else they'd kill her.
Nekumbra has not eaten fawns for the past three days, and has asked for help defending her...
-------------------------------------------------------------------
She didn't go to her lair. She knew it would be a bad idea to stay there. She knew Iugulare's ways, she would not have survived the night.
Instead, Nekumbra spent the night closer to the Twin Gods' hill. She knew Iugulare would not approach the gods, and even though she was fearful of them as well. She didn't sleep much this night...
The morning came, and she quickly sought out her friends.
Iugulare and Anirapio will be here soon to collect my body. Knowing them, they'll bring some of those rock hounds too. I'd best be on my guard..., she thought...

Woden awoke in a haze. Pain
Perhaps he would die. He didn’t know how to die. Hadn’t done that before…
Amidst everything that was
"Oh, Woden...please tell me you're alright..." he whispered, doing his best to give comfort but not knowing what else to do. Ishibaba had turned when Liam cried out, and rushed down the hill in a panic. Woden...what was he doing here? How could this have happened to him?
Nathaniel heard a shout.
"Shit," Nathaniel said as he saw the damage. "I can accelerate his healing...but even if I do, I don't know if it'll help. It might be to slow..." He muttered to the deer around this stag that he presumed was Woden.
(Gah...somehow this got cut
The healer looked over Woden with a grim expression on his weathered face. It did not look good, not at all... "Woden, I need you to stay still. Do not move," the elder said, trying his best to sound calm, but the very state of the fay's wounds forced with voice to waiver. He crushed up a few red flowers into a paste beneath his hoof, and he gently began to smear it only the more minor gashes. He would need Nekumbra to dress the deeper wounds. "This should help. Do not fret, just stay still...your wounds must not open further," he continued, his heart breaking as Liam could only helplessly nuzzle the monarch stag. Why must the good suffer for evil's deeds?
When the one named Nathaniel arrived and spoke up, the elder turned to him and gave a deep bow. "Yes...please, do whatever you can. His bleeding is too heavy to stop otherwise," Ishibaba replied in a hushed voice so as not to frighten Liam.
The sound of a voice, this
“I’m sorry Liam, I cannot get up,” he managed to say, “There is a poison.”
A voice... Woden's voice.
Poison... Liam's eyes snapped open again in terror, and he shakily kissed Woden's cheek out of impulse. "Gods...yes, stay still. Everything will be alright, Woden...I promise," he managed to whisper, and then looked up at Ishibaba and Nathaniel with pleading eyes. There had to be something they could do, and they didn't have much time...
"This is not going to be
((Are we ready for the big
"Woden, oh gods!", Nekumbra cried and ran to his friend's side.
She listened, understanding that he was suffering from a poison that ran through his veins. Nekumbra tried to think of any way she could help. Her fangs were venomous as well, though it wasn't very potent for larger deer like him. All it would do was make him numb and sleepy.
If all else..., she thought, I could ease his pain...
((I’m here for the evening
Liam’s reassuring voice calmed him. He did as his friend said and held still. Things hurt decidedly less when he did. Things were getting fuzzier though and his ability to focus on anything at all was fading fast. A warm numbness embraced him…and somehow he knew it was a deadly numbness. He found himself loosing interest in breathing any longer. It took too much effort. But something nagged at the back of his mind. His friends where near him. The memory of them urged him to fight back and stay with them.
He fought. Breath rattled in his chest. He could not heal and could not transform. He pushed against the poison that seeped through him but to no avail.
“If only I could transform,” he muttered.
[[...I'll have to go for a

Something…shifted. Woden
Ah, but his wounds were on fire, some magic was effecting him, he realized now. Something that was helping him to fight the poison. Despite the pain, he kept up a steady pressure, urging the transformation upon himself. He felt wings, he felt his hooves become talons. Suddenly the breaking point was reached and he shot up and into the air, his spread wings catching the air. He was Raven and he was free of the pain. He had transformed at last.
He called out in exaltation.
And not just any raven, you
A @&*^ing GIANT raven.
"My Daddy was a velociraptor."
Nekumbra sniffed the air, and
And at that moment, the rock hounds revealed themselves. Nekumbra was right - there were 30 of them around the group (5 of each variety, assume purple-eyeds haven't cloaked yet).
But where was Iugulare and Anirapio? She couldn't spot them.
"Get ready, everyone! They're here!", Nekumbra spoke, but as she did, she felt some strange vibrations in the ground. She didn't think fast enough to move, and at that moment, Iugulare sprung up from the ground underneath her, striking at her and infecting her body. She let out a surprised howl and began to struggle, her underbelly burning from the virus.
Iugulare pulled in close and spoke, "You didn't think we'd give you such an easy fight now, did you?", and looking over to her friends, who had all looked surprised and horrified that she had already been captured, Iugulare spoke to them, "I'll give you a choice. Let us do what we please to Nekumbra and we won't kill you today. She isn't much of a friend anyway. You've seen what she does to your fawns, and here is the perfect opportunity to seek your revenge.", she sneered here, and then continued, "Or stand your ground and die by our paws. I could care less either way, Nekumbra is going to die regardless."
Anirapio had easily gotten past the webbing Nekumbra had placed for her, and landing by the fallen spider-doe and Iugulare, she was prepared to eat her old ally.
Nekumbra, crying and writhing, shouted something to her friends. Something that they would not expect.
"Save yourselves! Forget about me and run!!"
((At this point, it's entirely your choice whether you want to continue to fight or not. Nek's already been captured, and considering there are thirty rock hounds vs six already-injured deer, it may seem like an easy choice to leave Nek to her fate. In fact, that's kind of what I would like you guys to do, but I don't know your characters well enough so I'd rather you make the decision. You won't hurt my feelings (or Nek's) if your deer decides to flee, and the rock hounds won't pursue if you choose to do so (and you'll get the opportunity to come back after what has been done to Nek if this happens).
If you guys decide you still want to fight, we can continue to do so, but we will need more deer to join in and help.))
"I'll cover any of you that
Erza grunted as a reply then
Fighting like Nathaniel had told him to, he never stayed with one opponent too long. He was just a flailing whirlwind of black and green, hooves and antlers. Often, he just broke legs or threw rock hounds before heading on.
It was obvious they were out numbered so he bellowed fiercely hoping to attract some attention to them. He heard the dragon, Anirapio hiss you in his mind and realised she must have recognised him from their last fight. He cursed inwardly then caught a rock hound on his antlers and threw it at her.
The dragon's reflexes made
Nekumbra, helpless, did the one thing she could possibly do, "Erza! I don't want you to die because of me! Run away!"
"No. No! I won't let anyone
He looked around. Nathaniel's traps! He laughed quietly which attracted the attention of the nearest rock hound. An orange alpha that was quickly advancing on him. Instead of running head first into the wolf, he ran away from it causing it to sprint after him.
When they were close, Erza leapt the patch of flowers. He felt an explosion of energy behind him but didn't see what had happened to the rock hound - he was already moving.
He came close to the infectious stoat and the dragon trying desperately to keep his stomach contents. They were so wrapped up with Nekumbra they didn't even notice him. It was terrifying to be near them, but since he had nothing left to live for he slammed his front hooves down and Anirapio's tail.
The dragon roared and turned.
Ezra had jumped onto
"What will the dragon do when it cannot fly?" Nathaniel asked flippantly.
Fully healed now by
“I will be back for you spider-doe!” he shouted to Nekumbra. He nodded gravely to the two deer who were choosing to stay and fight. "Nathaniel, how far back should we move so you can use your magics against the foe?"
"As far back as possible, if

"Ignore them, Anirapio! Rid
"You should have done what you were told. Not for Iugulare, not for me, but for yourself. You were my best friend, but if eating you will put me one step closer to saving my world, then so be it.", the dragon spoke, who seemed just as pained as Nekumbra was that this had to happen. "Goodbye, my friend."
She lifted the infected spider doe up and shoved her into the chest pouch. With Nekumbra's last breath, she screamed at her friends one last, desperate time, "RRRRUUUUUUNNNNN!!!!"
The rock hounds closed in around the stoat and dragon, making it difficult for any of the others to get close. They could see Anirapio's belly churning, as Nekumbra struggled...then it ceased and compressed in. Anirapio savored every moment of draining Nekumbra's body, though at one point she swayed a little from ingesting the spider's venom.
Through the tip of her tail, the dragon released Nekumbra's body - shriveled, thin, motionless. "We're done here.", Iugulare spoke, and seeping into the ground, she disappeared. Anirapio took to the sky, though her movements were wobbly due to the toxin that now had infiltrated her veins. The rock hounds, pleased to see their master's victory, scattered and fled into the Forest.
The deer looked toward the top of the hill, toward the fallen spider doe. She wasn't moving, she wasn't even breathing. They understood now why Nekumbra tried to tell them to run.
The fight was over. Iugulare and Anirapio had won. And Nekumbra was dead.
((This isn't the end. I have a plan))
She was...dead. He had
"Ezra, do what she wanted," He yelled. "Run for now."
It was pointless to remain. There was not enough of them to defeat the rock hounds, and this was a battle of their choosing. Remaining was foolish.
Nathaniel caused an explosion in the remaining traps, hoping that it would take out a couple of the rock hounds as he walked away. The last that the rock hounds and the rest would see of him assuming they did not follow, was his golden back, and the back of the shorts that he had summoned.
Woden watched in horror as
He began gathering kindling. It would be used to build a perimeter of bonfires around the body. He would hold vigil and watch over her, guarding her so her spirit should have unencumbered passage to the Otherworld. As he gathered twigs, he hummed low and soft in his throat, a song to warn off soul stealers and to provide directions for the newly departed soul to follow, over the waters and to the islands of the dead. He knew the traditions well. He would perform them for his friend.
(Holy crap, I'm so sorry I
Despite their injuries, Liam and Ishibaba fought off the rock hounds as long as they could, the elder making sure to stay close to the younger stag to better protect him in his vulnerable state. When Nekumbra was captured and screamed at them to run, Liam's eyes widened in horror. No...! "Nekumbra!" he cried, charging forward without thinking but found himself struggling against Ishibaba's solid frame as he held him back. "No, Liam...do not be foolish!" the elder shouted, doing his best to keep the injured and panicked buck at bay.
Liam bleated in terror as Nekumbra was devoured and spit out as a lifeless husk. Was she... No, she couldn't be... He was stunned, terrified and shocked, his body seemingly locked in place as he gaped at the scene before him. This cannot be real... It's not real... The duo had left before Liam even realized it. Seeing Woden begin to gather kindling, he snapped out of his tranced and stumbled over to the fay, his legs quaking and his breathing short and harsh as he struggled to breathe. "W-Woden..." he managed to whisper, looking up at the monarch stag with misty eyes. "Is she... She's not..." He bit his lip and looked back at the others who had fought for Nekumbra, who had risked their lives to save her. "What do we do, Woden...?"
Woden stepped forward and
He looked back down to Liam who looked so ragged and tired, Woden tried to remember that he had not had the healing of transformation as he had, “Yes, I think that would be right, sit with her. There is a plant that will help with your wounds, I will fetch some for you.”
Liam could only nod slowly,
She is gone... Just like that... Oh, Nekumbra, I am so sorry I couldn't save you...
Taking in a shuddering breath, he looked up at Woden gratefully. "Th-thank you, Woden," he strained, laying his neck over Nekumbra's lifeless shoulder. Ishibaba silently bowed his head to the fay, expressing his thanks and respect without words, and was soon by Liam's side to look over his wounds as well.
((Let me know when you guys

Woden, having finished his
“This is when the spirit is most vulnerable,” he said to the young stag. “We will guard our friend in death so her soul may seek peace.”
Liam watched Woden prepare
Looking up at the monarch stag, Liam nodded solemnly. "Yes...she shall be safe, now. I...I am comforted now knowing that she will indeed be at peace. She cannot be hurt anymore," he replied softly, closing his eyes with a shuddering sigh.
A few moments passed, quiet
And then something amazing happened. The deer present watched as one by one, little spirits appeared around the spider doe. They were the spirits of fawns who had passed, though they remained on our plane of existence. The little ones ethereally shimmered a golden color, and as they appeared, they approached and sat next to the body of Nekumbra.
Thirty eight fawn spirits sat by her, the spirits of every fawn she had eaten.
One of the fawns, the oldest one of them all, spoke on behalf of the others, "Mother spider...you ended each of our lives, but you gave us a death free of pain and suffering. We will have new lives very soon, but even though you ate us, we forgive you. We followed and listened as you changed from your ways, and because you became so good and pure, we wish nothing but a second chance for you. Please accept our forgiveness, and our gift of life..."
Each of the fawns approached, kissing the spider's forehead or nuzzling her cheek. And after, each one vanished, Nekumbra's body growing just slightly in form as her body reconstituted. As the last few ones gave their gift, she began to breathe again. The last fawn was the one who spoke before, and smiling, he rested his head on her chest, vanishing at the same time her heart began to beat again.
Nekumbra wearily opened her eyes, alive once again but on the verge of death.
"...P...ple....ase.....forgi....ve.....me....", the first words out of her mouth. She tried to stand, but cringed and cried out in pain, collapsing and gasping for air. Despite being alive, the process left her weak and in agony.
((Nekumbra lives again, though healthwise she is only at 10%.))
Erza sat up. Though everyone
Now he was looking at Nekumbra, he could hardly believe believe his eyes. After seeing her killed by the alien dragon, she should have been dead. Properly dead.
He sighed - he could hardly be surprised, though, her once-enemy-but-now-not Quad had come back form ashes right in front of his eyes too. He shook his head. It had been a long day.
He went up and nuzzled her with extreme care.
"I'm glad your alive..." He said softly.
Maybe this was what Hex was talking about?
"Erza...I'm glad...",
She was shivering here, her body had gone into shock (much like any creature who lived through being devoured by Anirapio). She rested her head and cringed painfully, a small amount of blood dripping from the side of her mouth.
Woden stared in amazement
Nekumbra struggled to her
When they arrived at the Pond, she sat down, letting the cooling water cleanse her body. She lowered her head and took large gulps of the refreshing liquid, sobbing with each swallow of water as her body stung back at her. The others started to notice the pond water around her having a faint pink color from blood seeping out of her body and mouth.
She mustered words at this time, "Did anyone...get hurt...? Did...we lose any...one?"
Nathaniel wandered the forest
He eventually appraoched the pond, and saw the body...except it wasn't a body, it was breathing. It was alive. Nekumbra had somehow...returned from the dead? He was surprised, he had not seen anyone here survive death before, but he had seen it in other cultures. He approached, a smile coming back to his face. He had not yet failed.
"Seen you looking better," He said.
