Deadly Treason (Nekumbra RP)

quadraptor's picture
Related to Nekumbra's Bio and her Defenders List. Also here's more info on Iugulare, Anirapio, and Nekumbra. Anyone can participate in this roleplay, and there will be rock hounds to fight as well, but please know your deer's limits. I don't want to see a single deer defeat five rock hounds at once, for example.

To recap - Nekumbra has decided not to eat any more fawns to befriend some of the Endless Forest deer. She ate grubs at first, but she didn't like the taste. Iugulare threatened to send Anirapio to eat her if she didn't get back to thinning out the deer's offspring. At first Nekumbra fell into temptation and ate three fawns, but then she had to regain the deer's trust. She finally learned to hunt squirrels and birds, and since then she has not eaten fawns since.

Iugulare and Anirapio visited Nekumbra again, and gave her three days to eat fawns or else they'd kill her.

Nekumbra has not eaten fawns for the past three days, and has asked for help defending her...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

She didn't go to her lair. She knew it would be a bad idea to stay there. She knew Iugulare's ways, she would not have survived the night.

Instead, Nekumbra spent the night closer to the Twin Gods' hill. She knew Iugulare would not approach the gods, and even though she was fearful of them as well. She didn't sleep much this night...

The morning came, and she quickly sought out her friends. Iugulare and Anirapio will be here soon to collect my body. Knowing them, they'll bring some of those rock hounds too. I'd best be on my guard..., she thought...

Woden awoke in a haze. Pain

Woden awoke in a haze. Pain lanced through him. Pain and worst of all weakness. His lids felt heavy as boulders. Breathing was a strain, it took much of his concentration to drag in each ragged breath. He heard the voices of deer off in the distance. He would call out to them but could not muster the strength or catch his breath. Trying to get to his feet, he lurched up and propped his side against a tree but his legs turned to jelly and he collapsed again. The deep wounds to his neck and abdomen broke open again and life blood drained out onto the forest floor. He could not remember how to heal. He could not remember how to transform. If he could transform, shift forms, the wounds would be healed…but he was too weak even for this. A poison was in him, it stole his strength and kept him from changing. He tried again, and only received more pain and lost more blood in the trying. He needed help. Again he tried to call out but only mustered a low whimpering groan. So much blood…

Perhaps he would die. He didn’t know how to die. Hadn’t done that before…

Amidst everything that was

Amidst everything that was happening on top of the hill, for some unexplained reason Liam's ears twitched to a sound that only his subconscious seemed to hear. Something told him to look over his shoulder, and so he did...and what he saw shocked and horrified him. It was Woden, crumpled in a broken heap against a tree not too far away. He was bleeding profusely, his wounds deep. For what seemed like forever, Liam could not speak... He felt as if he was in a nightmare in which he could not scream. Finally, he found he was able to move again, and before he even realized what was going on he was stumbling down the hill and toward his friend. "Woden...!" Somehow, his voice came back, and ignoring the searing flare that shot through his leg and shoulder as he moved he collapsed beside the fay stag. Tears trailed down his cheeks as he nuzzled the wounded stag, his entire body trembling.

"Oh, Woden...please tell me you're alright..." he whispered, doing his best to give comfort but not knowing what else to do. Ishibaba had turned when Liam cried out, and rushed down the hill in a panic. Woden...what was he doing here? How could this have happened to him?
MickKreiger's picture

Nathaniel heard a shout.

Nathaniel heard a shout. "Woden...!" was what he heard, so he moved over quickly. He found a couple of deer hovering over one of the others who seemed heavily injured. Blood seemed to be flowing out of his body quicker than it flowed down Niagra Falls. He moved over.
"Shit," Nathaniel said as he saw the damage. "I can accelerate his healing...but even if I do, I don't know if it'll help. It might be to slow..." He muttered to the deer around this stag that he presumed was Woden.

The healer looked over Woden with a grim expression on his weathered face. It did not look good, not at all... "Woden, I need you to stay still. Do not move," the elder said, trying his best to sound calm, but the very state of the fay's wounds forced with voice to waiver. He crushed up a few red flowers into a paste beneath his hoof, and he gently began to smear it only the more minor gashes. He would need Nekumbra to dress the deeper wounds. "This should help. Do not fret, just stay still...your wounds must not open further," he continued, his heart breaking as Liam could only helplessly nuzzle the monarch stag. Why must the good suffer for evil's deeds?

When the one named Nathaniel arrived and spoke up, the elder turned to him and gave a deep bow. "Yes...please, do whatever you can. His bleeding is too heavy to stop otherwise," Ishibaba replied in a hushed voice so as not to frighten Liam.
Sighthoundlady's picture

The sound of a voice, this

The sound of a voice, this time close to him, dragged him up again. Who was it? Was it the Forest Spirit talking to him again? Was he back in Fairy now? No, he hurt too much to be in Fairy. He realized it was Liam. Young, stolid Liam was beside him, nuzzled close, crying into his fur. Oh, why was Liam so sad? Surely there was nothing to be so sad about. “Don’t cry Liam,” he croaked. Did the words even leave his lips? He was so weak. He wanted to rise again, put flowers in his antlers and dance in the sun kissed meadow. He wanted to dance with Liam. That would make Liam stop crying.

“I’m sorry Liam, I cannot get up,” he managed to say, “There is a poison.”
Uruushou's picture

A voice... Woden's voice.

A voice... Woden's voice. Liam lifted his head and looked down at Woden with bewilderment, awe and hope in his misty eyes. Did he...did he really just speak? "Woden..." Liam whispered, pressing his lips to the fay's shoulder and squeezing his eyes shut. He didn't want to upset the monarch stag with his tears, but he just couldn't stop them. Having those he loved get hurt...it was too much for him to bear. Seeing Woden in this state was a shock; Woden was always happy and bounding around without a care in the world. And now...

Poison... Liam's eyes snapped open again in terror, and he shakily kissed Woden's cheek out of impulse. "Gods...yes, stay still. Everything will be alright, Woden...I promise," he managed to whisper, and then looked up at Ishibaba and Nathaniel with pleading eyes. There had to be something they could do, and they didn't have much time...
MickKreiger's picture

"This is not going to be

"This is not going to be pleasant, Woden. Healing quickly hurts like a bitch, especially since you've been poisoned," Nathaniel said, as he gathered his strength, releasing it into the wounds. The magics would heal him quickly, but how quickly would depend on the severity of the injuries, at this severe they woud slow the quick healing down a bit, and how much fight the guy had left in him. "They'll heal faster now than they should. I'm not sure how fast, I was never a talented healer among my kind so it varies depending on his strength and injuries. I'm guessing, it'll take a matter of hours for full healing...if you can prevent further blood loss..." He explained to the other healer. "Like I said, I wasn't very talented. I knew some that could have fixed him like that."

"Woden, oh gods!", Nekumbra cried and ran to his friend's side.

She listened, understanding that he was suffering from a poison that ran through his veins. Nekumbra tried to think of any way she could help. Her fangs were venomous as well, though it wasn't very potent for larger deer like him. All it would do was make him numb and sleepy.

If all else..., she thought, I could ease his pain...

Liam’s reassuring voice calmed him. He did as his friend said and held still. Things hurt decidedly less when he did. Things were getting fuzzier though and his ability to focus on anything at all was fading fast. A warm numbness embraced him…and somehow he knew it was a deadly numbness. He found himself loosing interest in breathing any longer. It took too much effort. But something nagged at the back of his mind. His friends where near him. The memory of them urged him to fight back and stay with them.

He fought. Breath rattled in his chest. He could not heal and could not transform. He pushed against the poison that seeped through him but to no avail.

“If only I could transform,” he muttered.

Something…shifted. Woden

Something…shifted. Woden realized something had changed. The poison…it seemed to be receding. He concentrated on fighting it. Sharp stabs of pain lanced through him but as he concentrated the poison was loosing its hold. He tried to transform and new levels of pain arched through him. But he was making headway.

Ah, but his wounds were on fire, some magic was effecting him, he realized now. Something that was helping him to fight the poison. Despite the pain, he kept up a steady pressure, urging the transformation upon himself. He felt wings, he felt his hooves become talons. Suddenly the breaking point was reached and he shot up and into the air, his spread wings catching the air. He was Raven and he was free of the pain. He had transformed at last.

He called out in exaltation.

Nekumbra sniffed the air, and

Nekumbra sniffed the air, and her blood went cold. She could tell they were here, surrounding them.

And at that moment, the rock hounds revealed themselves. Nekumbra was right - there were 30 of them around the group (5 of each variety, assume purple-eyeds haven't cloaked yet).

But where was Iugulare and Anirapio? She couldn't spot them.

"Get ready, everyone! They're here!", Nekumbra spoke, but as she did, she felt some strange vibrations in the ground. She didn't think fast enough to move, and at that moment, Iugulare sprung up from the ground underneath her, striking at her and infecting her body. She let out a surprised howl and began to struggle, her underbelly burning from the virus.

Iugulare pulled in close and spoke, "You didn't think we'd give you such an easy fight now, did you?", and looking over to her friends, who had all looked surprised and horrified that she had already been captured, Iugulare spoke to them, "I'll give you a choice. Let us do what we please to Nekumbra and we won't kill you today. She isn't much of a friend anyway. You've seen what she does to your fawns, and here is the perfect opportunity to seek your revenge.", she sneered here, and then continued, "Or stand your ground and die by our paws. I could care less either way, Nekumbra is going to die regardless."

Anirapio had easily gotten past the webbing Nekumbra had placed for her, and landing by the fallen spider-doe and Iugulare, she was prepared to eat her old ally.

Nekumbra, crying and writhing, shouted something to her friends. Something that they would not expect.

"Save yourselves! Forget about me and run!!"

((At this point, it's entirely your choice whether you want to continue to fight or not. Nek's already been captured, and considering there are thirty rock hounds vs six already-injured deer, it may seem like an easy choice to leave Nek to her fate. In fact, that's kind of what I would like you guys to do, but I don't know your characters well enough so I'd rather you make the decision. You won't hurt my feelings (or Nek's) if your deer decides to flee, and the rock hounds won't pursue if you choose to do so (and you'll get the opportunity to come back after what has been done to Nek if this happens).

If you guys decide you still want to fight, we can continue to do so, but we will need more deer to join in and help.))

"I'll cover any of you that

"I'll cover any of you that wants to get out of here," Nathaniel shouted to the group, lashing out with dark chaotic magics at the rock hounds, keeping as many as he could back, but it wouldn't last long. Nathaniel was not a defensive fighter, the faster the others made their decisions, the easier it would be, soon he would have to switch to more offensive tactics.
--Mick--

Erza grunted as a reply then

Erza grunted as a reply then ran into the fight. Since his sister had gone there was nothing left for him. Why die as a coward?

Fighting like Nathaniel had told him to, he never stayed with one opponent too long. He was just a flailing whirlwind of black and green, hooves and antlers. Often, he just broke legs or threw rock hounds before heading on.

It was obvious they were out numbered so he bellowed fiercely hoping to attract some attention to them. He heard the dragon, Anirapio hiss you in his mind and realised she must have recognised him from their last fight. He cursed inwardly then caught a rock hound on his antlers and threw it at her.
quadraptor's picture

The dragon's reflexes made

The dragon's reflexes made her dodge the oncoming flying wolf skeleton. She looked over at Erza, but then shook her head, "I'll deal with you another day, I have my own prey here...", looking down at the spider doe.

Nekumbra, helpless, did the one thing she could possibly do, "Erza! I don't want you to die because of me! Run away!"

"No. No! I won't let anyone

"No. No! I won't let anyone else go!" He yelled at her, adding "Not after Z..." under his breath.

He looked around. Nathaniel's traps! He laughed quietly which attracted the attention of the nearest rock hound. An orange alpha that was quickly advancing on him. Instead of running head first into the wolf, he ran away from it causing it to sprint after him.

When they were close, Erza leapt the patch of flowers. He felt an explosion of energy behind him but didn't see what had happened to the rock hound - he was already moving.

He came close to the infectious stoat and the dragon trying desperately to keep his stomach contents. They were so wrapped up with Nekumbra they didn't even notice him. It was terrifying to be near them, but since he had nothing left to live for he slammed his front hooves down and Anirapio's tail.

The dragon roared and turned.
MickKreiger's picture

Ezra had jumped onto

Ezra had jumped onto Anirapio, that gave Nathaniel an idea. Ignoring the nearby rockhounds, leaving them content with several traps he had laid around himself, he started to cause a gravity manipulation around Anirapio.
"What will the dragon do when it cannot fly?" Nathaniel asked flippantly.

Fully healed now by

Fully healed now by transforming into the raven, Woden stood once again in the warrior stag form, guarding over his injured comrades. When Iugulare appeared with the dragon and a hoard of the undead wolf creatures, he braced himself for battle. To his dismay the horrible hoard had already captured Nekumbra. He could fight better now he was sure, now that he knew what to avoid. If he went through transformations fast enough he could avoid the paralyzing effects of the poison…but there was so many of them. Liam was still badly injured, many others of the deer who had stood against the initial onslaught where injured as well. They were in no condition to fight. Woden knew there was no way to protect all of them, rescue Nekumbra and battle the grisly hoard that swarmed around them. With despair he made his decision, he would help the wounded to safety.

“I will be back for you spider-doe!” he shouted to Nekumbra. He nodded gravely to the two deer who were choosing to stay and fight. "Nathaniel, how far back should we move so you can use your magics against the foe?"
MickKreiger's picture

"As far back as possible, if

"As far back as possible, if I use too much, chaotic ripples can appear...they can do some pretty nasty things," Nathaniel said. "Well...to you anyway. They can't hurt me because I'm designed for them. It's the reason I was trying to fight before without my powers."
--Mick--
Sighthoundlady's picture

Woden nodded in

Woden nodded in understanding. “May the Twin God’s look after you Nathaniel,” perhaps this one’s magic would at least protect him. But the other deer, Ezra, he saw naught but an aggrieved heart throwing his life away, “Erza, don’t sacrifice yourself for naught, bravery does not mean fool heartedness. Help me with the wounded, I could use your assistance. I too would like nothing better than to crush this evil hoard but we need to regroup.”
MickKreiger's picture

"Yeah, even if we can get

"Yeah, even if we can get Nekumbra free, there's no guarantee we could defeat all of these rockhounds, and Iugulare and Anirapio. I plan to see if I can get her free and then bolt," Nathaniel shouted to Ezra.
--Mick--
quadraptor's picture

"Ignore them, Anirapio! Rid

"Ignore them, Anirapio! Rid us of this traitor among us, there is no need to wait!", Iugulare spoke to the dragon. Though angry at Erza, she turned and looked down to Nekumbra.

"You should have done what you were told. Not for Iugulare, not for me, but for yourself. You were my best friend, but if eating you will put me one step closer to saving my world, then so be it.", the dragon spoke, who seemed just as pained as Nekumbra was that this had to happen. "Goodbye, my friend."

She lifted the infected spider doe up and shoved her into the chest pouch. With Nekumbra's last breath, she screamed at her friends one last, desperate time, "RRRRUUUUUUNNNNN!!!!"

The rock hounds closed in around the stoat and dragon, making it difficult for any of the others to get close. They could see Anirapio's belly churning, as Nekumbra struggled...then it ceased and compressed in. Anirapio savored every moment of draining Nekumbra's body, though at one point she swayed a little from ingesting the spider's venom.

Through the tip of her tail, the dragon released Nekumbra's body - shriveled, thin, motionless. "We're done here.", Iugulare spoke, and seeping into the ground, she disappeared. Anirapio took to the sky, though her movements were wobbly due to the toxin that now had infiltrated her veins. The rock hounds, pleased to see their master's victory, scattered and fled into the Forest.

The deer looked toward the top of the hill, toward the fallen spider doe. She wasn't moving, she wasn't even breathing. They understood now why Nekumbra tried to tell them to run.

The fight was over. Iugulare and Anirapio had won. And Nekumbra was dead.

((This isn't the end. I have a plan))
MickKreiger's picture

She was...dead. He had

She was...dead. He had failed. He had sworn that this time he would fight and that she would survive, and that that would begin to atone for leaving his people to die, and he had failed. Now her voice would come to him in his nightmares to. Come with the rest of them. He would her them day after day. He cut off his thoughts, he did not want them coming now, whilst he was still in danger.
"Ezra, do what she wanted," He yelled. "Run for now."

It was pointless to remain. There was not enough of them to defeat the rock hounds, and this was a battle of their choosing. Remaining was foolish.

Nathaniel caused an explosion in the remaining traps, hoping that it would take out a couple of the rock hounds as he walked away. The last that the rock hounds and the rest would see of him assuming they did not follow, was his golden back, and the back of the shorts that he had summoned.

Woden watched in horror as

Woden watched in horror as his friend Nekumbra met her grisly fate. He watched the evil hoard leave then picked his way through the battlefield, solemnly approaching the spider doe’s broken body. “I am sorry, friend,” he said bowing, “Your bravery and strength to overcome will not be forgotten.” Silently he collected flowers and adorned them on her antlers and body, busying himself with the rituals of death. She would be properly cared for.

He began gathering kindling. It would be used to build a perimeter of bonfires around the body. He would hold vigil and watch over her, guarding her so her spirit should have unencumbered passage to the Otherworld. As he gathered twigs, he hummed low and soft in his throat, a song to warn off soul stealers and to provide directions for the newly departed soul to follow, over the waters and to the islands of the dead. He knew the traditions well. He would perform them for his friend.

Despite their injuries, Liam and Ishibaba fought off the rock hounds as long as they could, the elder making sure to stay close to the younger stag to better protect him in his vulnerable state. When Nekumbra was captured and screamed at them to run, Liam's eyes widened in horror. No...! "Nekumbra!" he cried, charging forward without thinking but found himself struggling against Ishibaba's solid frame as he held him back. "No, Liam...do not be foolish!" the elder shouted, doing his best to keep the injured and panicked buck at bay.

Liam bleated in terror as Nekumbra was devoured and spit out as a lifeless husk. Was she... No, she couldn't be... He was stunned, terrified and shocked, his body seemingly locked in place as he gaped at the scene before him. This cannot be real... It's not real... The duo had left before Liam even realized it. Seeing Woden begin to gather kindling, he snapped out of his tranced and stumbled over to the fay, his legs quaking and his breathing short and harsh as he struggled to breathe. "W-Woden..." he managed to whisper, looking up at the monarch stag with misty eyes. "Is she... She's not..." He bit his lip and looked back at the others who had fought for Nekumbra, who had risked their lives to save her. "What do we do, Woden...?"
Sighthoundlady's picture

Woden stepped forward and

Woden stepped forward and nuzzled young Liam, whose broken heart echoed his own. “Let us tend to our wounded as we tend to our dead,” Woden offered his shoulder to Liam, the young stags wounds looked angry, “If you feel up to it, you can help me with the funerary preparations. Perhaps you would like to sit next to Nekumbra and hold vigil over her? I shall collect fuel for the bonfires. It is right that the fires should burn through the night,” he said looking at the sky, a few stars where becoming visible.

He looked back down to Liam who looked so ragged and tired, Woden tried to remember that he had not had the healing of transformation as he had, “Yes, I think that would be right, sit with her. There is a plant that will help with your wounds, I will fetch some for you.”
Uruushou's picture

Liam could only nod slowly,

Liam could only nod slowly, closing his eyes as he lightly leaned against the fay's shoulder. He was comforted by the gesture, although he feared that the horrific sight he had just witnessed would never leave his subconscious. He could feel blood trickle down his shoulder and pool around his hooves as his movements opened his wounds further, but he hardly cared anymore. He was numb. "I...I will stay with her. I will...I will keep her safe..." Liam whispered, and after briefly nuzzling Woden's chest he sank to his knees beside Nekumbra's lifeless body. Shaking, he did his best to curl around her...just like he would when he would give her company as she slept. He squeezed his eyes shut, a few tears escaping and trailing down his cheeks.

She is gone... Just like that... Oh, Nekumbra, I am so sorry I couldn't save you...

Taking in a shuddering breath, he looked up at Woden gratefully. "Th-thank you, Woden," he strained, laying his neck over Nekumbra's lifeless shoulder. Ishibaba silently bowed his head to the fay, expressing his thanks and respect without words, and was soon by Liam's side to look over his wounds as well.

Woden, having finished his preparations for Nekumbra’s remains, surveyed his work. The bonfires where prepaired he now had only to light them. He let his fire hardened hooves strike against flintstone and the bonfires he had set up around Nekumbra’s remains where lit, one by one. He’d made a smudge stick out of sage and lavender, this he used on Nekumbra’s remains to cleanse and purify them. Finally he threw some more sage into the bonfires. His work done, he sat down next to Liam. Now for the night’s vigil.

“This is when the spirit is most vulnerable,” he said to the young stag. “We will guard our friend in death so her soul may seek peace.”

Liam watched Woden prepare

Liam watched Woden prepare the funeral pyre, feeling fascinated despite the sorrow that ate at his heart. It was a wonder to watch Woden do such things, and with such precision and wisdom. The young stag's respect and admiration for the fay could only grow stronger. Liam's nose tingled at the pleasant scents of sage and lavender, the combination proving to be very comforting. The heat from the bonfires was not unpleasant; he welcomed the warmth. Strangely enough, as Nekumbra's body was burned he felt oddly at peace.

Looking up at the monarch stag, Liam nodded solemnly. "Yes...she shall be safe, now. I...I am comforted now knowing that she will indeed be at peace. She cannot be hurt anymore," he replied softly, closing his eyes with a shuddering sigh.

A few moments passed, quiet

A few moments passed, quiet and peaceful. The flickering bonfires illuminated the surroundings, creating strange shadows from the trees. Glistening starlight littered the sky, and a cool breeze gently blew.

And then something amazing happened. The deer present watched as one by one, little spirits appeared around the spider doe. They were the spirits of fawns who had passed, though they remained on our plane of existence. The little ones ethereally shimmered a golden color, and as they appeared, they approached and sat next to the body of Nekumbra.

Thirty eight fawn spirits sat by her, the spirits of every fawn she had eaten.

One of the fawns, the oldest one of them all, spoke on behalf of the others, "Mother spider...you ended each of our lives, but you gave us a death free of pain and suffering. We will have new lives very soon, but even though you ate us, we forgive you. We followed and listened as you changed from your ways, and because you became so good and pure, we wish nothing but a second chance for you. Please accept our forgiveness, and our gift of life..."

Each of the fawns approached, kissing the spider's forehead or nuzzling her cheek. And after, each one vanished, Nekumbra's body growing just slightly in form as her body reconstituted. As the last few ones gave their gift, she began to breathe again. The last fawn was the one who spoke before, and smiling, he rested his head on her chest, vanishing at the same time her heart began to beat again.

Nekumbra wearily opened her eyes, alive once again but on the verge of death.

"...P...ple....ase.....forgi....ve.....me....", the first words out of her mouth. She tried to stand, but cringed and cried out in pain, collapsing and gasping for air. Despite being alive, the process left her weak and in agony.

((Nekumbra lives again, though healthwise she is only at 10%.))

Erza sat up. Though everyone

Erza sat up. Though everyone else had been watching the spider doe he hadn't. His thoughts had been... elsewhere.

Now he was looking at Nekumbra, he could hardly believe believe his eyes. After seeing her killed by the alien dragon, she should have been dead. Properly dead.

He sighed - he could hardly be surprised, though, her once-enemy-but-now-not Quad had come back form ashes right in front of his eyes too. He shook his head. It had been a long day.

He went up and nuzzled her with extreme care.
"I'm glad your alive..." He said softly.

Maybe this was what Hex was talking about?
quadraptor's picture

"Erza...I'm glad...",

"Erza...I'm glad...", Nekumbra began to say, when she had to turn to the side and cough, a small amount of blood exiting her mouth and hitting the ground. Taking a breath, she finished the sentence, "...you're okay..."

She was shivering here, her body had gone into shock (much like any creature who lived through being devoured by Anirapio). She rested her head and cringed painfully, a small amount of blood dripping from the side of her mouth.
Sighthoundlady's picture

Woden stared in amazement

Woden stared in amazement when he saw the spider-doe moving. He was tired, perhaps his eyes were playing tricks on him, he’d seen corpses do unsettling things and make movements like unto life when upon the funeral pyre, kicking out in grisly semblance of life. But his eyes had not deceived him. The doe was alive. He leapt up and attacked the burning wood with his hooves and antlers, tearing it away. He was burned by the flames but he paid no attention to the pain. He was intent on snuffing out the fires. Fortunately it had not built up enough to reach Nekumbra where she rested. When he made his way finally to her side, he was dismayed at her poor condition. She looked wretched. Dehydrated, emaciated, as if she’d be starved for months. He kneeled down beside her and in her ear he whispered, “We are here for you Nekumbra, rest easy now. The enemy is vanquished and you are alive.” They had to get her to the pond. She could drink and they could cleanse her wounds there.
quadraptor's picture

Nekumbra struggled to her

Nekumbra struggled to her feet, but with her friends' help, she leaned on them for support as they walked toward the Pond. She took it one step at a time, only using her doe legs. The eight spider legs dragged limply at her sides, occasionally moving but otherwise unable to work.

When they arrived at the Pond, she sat down, letting the cooling water cleanse her body. She lowered her head and took large gulps of the refreshing liquid, sobbing with each swallow of water as her body stung back at her. The others started to notice the pond water around her having a faint pink color from blood seeping out of her body and mouth.

She mustered words at this time, "Did anyone...get hurt...? Did...we lose any...one?"

Nathaniel wandered the forest for a time not changing back. In times like this he was unsure of where he shoud go. Should he go home to his tower? Should he go to his place in the human world, wehre he spent most of his time, or should he remain in the forest, and go to a paritcular place? He was unsure so he simply wandered, not bothering to change back into a deer yet.

He eventually appraoched the pond, and saw the body...except it wasn't a body, it was breathing. It was alive. Nekumbra had somehow...returned from the dead? He was surprised, he had not seen anyone here survive death before, but he had seen it in other cultures. He approached, a smile coming back to his face. He had not yet failed.

"Seen you looking better," He said.
