You can get casted on while your a mini by other deer playing the old version, and there's some glitch for it which was recently posted, but if you close TEF and come back your mini pelt will always be gone.
There's no way to "keep" it permanently. Sorry!

Lani- Small correction; you do keep the pelt, but when you log out, it gets stuck UNDER the mini spell. You still have it if you pass through the fountain's ring.
