here's some basic character information regarding beau! i'll also post screenshots and art in this thread.

Beau (for whom the bell tolls)
aka Beauregarde
Gender: male
Species: unicorn
Age: yearling
Size: #16 on the size chart
A moody unicorn yearling, recently reincarnated into the Forest. He's easily camouflaged beneath the shade of the trees, courtesy of his shadowy pelt. He's at his teenaged prime, extra angsty and aloof. He moves like a bullet between dark patches of the forest, and from the center of his forehead pierces a narrow, blade-like horn.
He is cursed to share a thousand lifetimes with
Knife Princess. This is just one of them.
He seems both aware of his predicament and displeased by it. Though he has no memory of his past lives, he knows this to be the next in his nigh-endless chain of subsequent reincarnations. Beyond this unusual wisdom, he is a regular teen — quiet and somewhat distant, especially from strangers. He prefers to stick with those he knows.
He isn't the most social, but he seems to have integrated into the Forest quickly in the short time he's been here. He spent his
foalhood being raised by Missy, and she is the closest thing to a mother he has. When he isn't laying close to someone he knows, he can be found resting on the bridge. He has developed a spicy scent of pepper, tobacco, and honey, with the scent of pond clinging beneath.
He has no humanshape associated with his time in the forest yet, but in past lives (though he does not know it), he has been a gentle but rather tormented man. In one he is a vampire, in another a stablehand, and in yet another he is a man who lost his other half. In all, he has been in some manner of messy relationship.

a backlog of old
beau's first real interaction with other creatures around the forest, at least the first i captured screenshots of. what a lovely group. eris, mewe, and valaire taught beau how to use his little uncoordinated body to spin, backflip, and, erm... become a tree!
a few days later, beau ran into some faces, some old & some new.
someone new & someone familiar arrived! widmung (i believe) and eris giving beau a squish alongside pestil, and keeping him safe while he has a nap!
he woke up to a very busy cuddle pile
i learned how to use reshade
i learned how to use reshade today, so now my screenshots look extra moody, especially with the night-time lighting. beau encountered rindea, and they played briefly before he led her back to his favorite spot (the bridge) for some cuddles.
melodíades joined the group for a brief nap. the ambiance was particularly beautiful tonight, and the lovely company just made it better!

His story is interesting, I wonder how he became trapped in this loop, or if there is a way to release him. Perhaps time will tell!
Also, the black and white deer with flowers in his antlers is Saater, Eris' brother. I can understand the confusion, even our pictos are similar.

here's the last screenshot i took before my break. looks like eris and rindea were there, but i'm not positive about the other deer on the left (or about what's going on with the detached floating beau picto LOL)
i feel like night being beau's first weather (well, unless you count the confetti he was born in) suited him very well!
oh, right, i wanted to share
i've been thinking about painting this for a long time, but i only just got around to it recently. i wanted to give gouache a try so i visualized what an adult beau would look like. it didn't turn out perfectly, but i had fun and that's all that matters!
right now as a foal i imagine him as just being a dark, shadowy color with a tiny nub where his horn will be, but as an adult i think he'll be quite elegant. i imagine his adult form as being somewhat hypnotizing or hard to comprehend, with his coat constantly swirling with patterns and his entire form being somewhat wispy and two-dimensional, like a shadow.
i can't believe it's been two weeks since he was "born" already. he'll be all grown up soon!

i plopped Missy down by Beau on the bridge just now, he looked far too cold with those scrawny baby limbs to be on that stone all alone. how does Beau feel about the snowy weather? <3 i think it's so cute that he was born into confetti and bubbles- he's just like baby fjara <3 i think it makes their birth into the forest extra special when they arrive during special weather. can't believe it's already almost been a month since beau has arrive to the forest!!

i get the sense beau likes the quiet of the snow, but i'm sure how stark his pelt is against it makes him feel a little exposed. plus the pond, his favorite place to be, would be awfully cold in this weather!
despite being born in the special weather, i imagine he came about without much fanfare. i suppose "born" isn't the right way to put it -- i see him as simply having stepped out of the shadows one day into existence while everyone was distracted (rather inverse to his counterpart knife princess who i have given painfully little attention. i think she fell out of the sky with the bubbles and confetti .~* only the most dramatic arrival suits her)
since it's been a while, i decided to give his profile and his character info at the start of this blog a lil update. he's getting so big!!!

@hoodie (previous comment) while beau isn't a "horror" character by any means, i honestly think he and missy are similar in their shadowy & sort of surreal natures/appearances. i think beau probably finds some kinship in that and feels easily comfortable with her.

honestly every time i log onto the forest and spend some time playing, be it for hours or just a few minutes, i find myself thinking "i hope this is what heaven is like". i have never found it so easy to escape from the real world as i do here & now. it sort of feels like i'm fulfilling that childhood sense of wondering when my adventure or my magic will come, like the main characters of all the books i grew up reading -- going to the forest IS my magic. and it would not be nearly as special were it not for the fantastic community i find myself a part of

i completely, wholeheartedly agree. i think there's something really special about being able to connect with others in silence. the company, with the inability for trolls or negativity. esp if you have issues w typical communication. i spend way too much time in the forest. it's become a refuge for my mind in a way. a reality of comfort. it truly does feel like a heaven. it might even be unhealthy for me at this point, where even when i'm unable to be "in" the forest i'm pretty much always thinking of my TEF friends anyway LOL. it's so touching to me, how different bonds are formed with different characters, and somehow their personalities shine through together without words.
i even have keychains of the art that others have done of valaire, and a keychain of her picto AHAHABDBEHFBT
i'm so glad you share the same sentiment though, about the escapism this game provides. often times i look over at my screen from drawing, and to see valaire or missy snuggled up to someone, just gives me an immediate surge of comfort and happiness. TEF always knows how to leave me with a feeling that i have to extend the scene, and draw the details that i see happening, which just inspires sooo many drawings. it really does spark a childlike imagination.
i return the sentiment fr, the game wouldn't be the same without the community, and that includes you too, antlers!! i'm so happy we met, and i'm so glad Missy can be some type of weird forest mom to Beau while he's still just baby.

i took lots of pictures of relatively mundane cuddling because i found the white deer to be very pretty lol. i believe that is figment, this was our first time meeting. i'm not sure about the crow though!
later that same day... this may be my favorite screenshot so far. beau being so tiny he could barely peek over the bridge is adorable!!! i love how missy always takes her place right beside beau, even when other deer are around
he also met his twin
a rather intense party got going right on top of him!
this picture is also a favorite -- i loved watching everyone play in the background, especially in such a beautiful area.
