Background Pictures?

How exactly does one get backgrounds for CSS? I`ve seen dozens of amazing backgrounds, but I was never quite able to find a website for them.

Also, what code is needed to put two boxes next to each other? I tried to use a code from one of the blogs here, but I think I messed it up. XD
