(Art Trouble..meh.)

You don't have to read this.
It's just, I feel like my art is going nowhere. Absolutely nowhere. I try, I really do. My anatomy is screwed up and such. Today, I drew one of my friends. My other friend who saw it said, "It's kinda' good...but not really. You're a lot better at drawing animals." I don't know why, but that really hurt me. I'm usually good with constructive criticism. I've been drawing animals for a long time, and I want to change it up a bit and start drawing humans. I've been trying to draw them for a long time. Sometimes they come out okay, but most of the time they look terrible. I really need a style. I have nothing to build on. I like realistic drawing, but...it's just I also like kinda' like...semi-realism. Is that even possible? Can anyone help me find a tutorial for a semi-realism or realistic drawing tutorial?
;C I just wish I could draw good. I really want to be a good artist, but no matter how much I try, it looks terrible...

i am not really a good

i am not really a good artist myselfe but some friends of mine start by drawing really small parts with increasing detail over time, for refrence a medical anatomy books are good

*cough* *whisper* that isn't

*cough* *whisper* that isn't really constructive, so I can see why it would be hurtful *cough* anyway!

Here are some pieces of advice;
1. Don't TRY and draw in a style. You're style will be something that comes naturally, if its something you have to force, or try at, it isn't YOURS.

2. Tutorials are great for learning how to draw the basics of something, but don't assume that the person creating the tutorial is a master and never makes mistakes. The best way to learn to draw something (in your case, humans) is to draw them...a lot...like, crazy lots lol Tutorials can be helpful, but experimentation and drawing from models is 100% better.

3. (this last point is more personal opinion and observations than anything, so disregard it if you wish Smiling) Learning realism before learning how to draw stylized humans is LOADS easier. I started to draw humans after watching anime...which we allll know can be about as unrealistic as it gets! Now I'm stuck with habits that I've developed because I never bothered to learned the basics about the human body. I used a style as a crutch because I was lazy. You'll be helping yourself in the long run if you at least familiarize yourself with the basics of anatomy before getting too heavily into cartoon styles.

*shifty eyes* That was longer than intended, and perhaps a bit preachy. Sorry 'bout that! :S

You, like all of us, must

You, like all of us, must suck up yer pride and continue, dearie! 8D Just draw whenever and whatever you can. Doesn't matter what kind of style you start out with - you'll grow to like whatever you do, trust me. Pictures, movie stills, signs - anything is good to start off of. It ain't hard. cB Just gotta keep up faith and practice like hell! <3333

-delusiounal right now so that probably didn't make any sense-
