Faint, at first, were the sounds of taps against the front door. She wouldn't have heard them at all if not for the pause inbetween the tracks of music flowing smoothly between her headphones and her ears, lined with crooning trumpets and the staccato plucks from a bass. She paused the old walkman and the New Orleans style jazz CD came to a halt before she pushed the large stereo headphones off her ears and let them fall around her neck. The knocking sounded again and she scrambled up to dash up to the front door, opening it with a firm tug. "Bones! She exclaimed loudly, startled and ecstatic to see her standing there. The woman wore a wide grin as the girl nearly fell right into her, thin arms wrapped tightly around her waist. "Where have you been? I was missing you for so long and oh my gosh so much has happened and I was starting to get worried but then I knew you could get out of anything and oh my gosh-" She took a deep breath after her winded sentence, still clinging to her like an animal clings to its mother. "Well how are ya?"
faunet: In the dimly lit theater, with the speakers emitting the melody of some symphony as background noise, the soft thumps of the dancer's feet against the hardwood stage echoed across the paneled walls and empty seats. Below, in the orchestra pit, was a young man scanning over the intricacies of each little mechanism inside- his hands worked quickly at the hinges and screws securing the keyslip. It was a grand, and a very nice one at that, which had occupied the theater for decades and this wasn't the first time his association with the place had led to him being asked to repair or tune it. In it's most ideal condition, it was one of the better sounding instruments he had come across.
His working was accompanied by a woman on stage, practicing a routine to the light music from the stage speakers. In an effort to not make too much noise to distract her from dancing, Fledermaus carefully tapped a few keys to ensure they had the right pitch before moving on to the next few. It seemed that his company had more or less finished her practice, as she was halfway through removing her shoes by the time that he realized the noises of movement had quieted.
(Also, would you mind just using quotation marks so it's easier to read?)
" Ill guess Ill be ready by opening night" she murmered. The only sound that she could here was a faint tapping noise coming from somewhere in the theater. "Hello" she called out. " Is anyone there?"
faunet:
He tightened a couple of pegs, then tapped them lightly in sync with two previously tuned keys. C#, C... They sounded accurate. But it the voice that drifted out from the stage afterward indicated that his work must have been more distracting than he had originally thought. He lifted his head up away from the inner pieces and looked to ward the stage at the dancer apologetically. "Sorry," The one soft word echoed just barely through the room. Perhaps she hadn't known he was even there, obscured by the height of the stage. "I'll be finished here in a few minutes." He said quickly, turning to screw in another hinge with hastened movement.
faunet: "I do," He said, extending his hand to shake hers but hesitating to introduce himself by name the same way he did every single time since he could remember. It was still such an unsightly name, in his opinion. "I'm Fled- I just come here to take care of that." His gentle voice paused, smiling, as he indicated toward the grand piano in the pit in front of the stage. "And you?"
Bones laughed warmly and crossed her arms around De's back and attempted to pick her up, and managed, she wasn't the biggest of kids, although she was heavier than she expected. "Goodness you've grown!" Bones walked back in the apartment with the child in her arms and shut the door behind her with her hip. "Ah, I'm sorry sweetheart, I've been away for so long! You know I'd come back for you!" she smiled and kissed the girls cheek. She pulled at the heavy old-style headphones. "Old school huh?" she set the girl back down. "What are you listening to?" she tossed her white hair back and looked around the apartment. It was well kept. "Opera? Classical?... no of course no the Jonas Brothers I bet!" she laughed again.
A giggle slipped from her mouth as the woman picked her up and carried her inside. "I knew you would- I guess you were working?" She winked, knowing that Bones had quite an interesting line of work, though most of it was purposely left a mystery to her. This only meant she could assume it was dangerous, taboo, or illegal. "Yep," She replied as she was set down with a grunt, "This stuff was my mom's, so I had to keep it. She liked sooo much music, and she had a bunch of those...bigger CD's...uhh-" She racked her brain trying to think of the word in English. "Records! Yeah, those. Dad's got a billion of those, too. But this thing only plays CD's." She indicated to the late 80's style walkman clipped to her hip with a smile. "Haha" she sneered sarcastically, smiling, with her hands on her hips. "No, I wouldn't steal your music. It's a bunch of jazz, from New Orleans. I'd love to go there some time, have you ever been there? I've read about it, and the culture is a lot like Haiti. They even speak almost the same language as me! It sounds so cool."
faunet:
"Nice to meet you." He replied, shaking her hand and giving a nod. "So, are you practicing for play?
Flef:
Aegle got out of the cab and approached the apartment complex that she had seen once before. She remembered the small dark skinned girl sitting on the stoop excitedly waiting to see her father. She had his face and his attitude in some ways.
She was in New York for the time being only because her art was being displayed in a small show, she hoped to make a few bucks off it. Even though she hated New York, all cities actually, she decided to come to visit Desamn. She did not want Masque to act out like an idiot towards her. Hell knows he already was a terrible father.
She clicked on the button and awkwardly spoke into the microphone, "Uh, hello? I'm here t-to see Desamn and uh..." She took her finger of the button while swearing. What the fuck was her stepfathers name? She looked around herself as a tall man walked by, staring at her. She leaned slowly forward again and clicked it, "Y-Yeah I uh, don't know her guardians name..."She then took one step back slightly satisfied before suddenly realizing she had forgotten to mention her name.
She clicked the button one final time, she spoke with a harsh annoyed tone,"Oh, and its Aegle."
Flef-De: Bones peeked in rooms as she walked a bit further in, no one was here, not even a baby sitter. "Wow, you're really alone then huh?... Well, auntie Bones is here to save the day." She was glad she had come. She watched the child with interest. "Oh, yes. Working... lots of office papers and laptops." she winks at her. "Ah, your mom was a music lover then huh..? Oooh New Orleans, they have some amazing graveyards there. I've only just passed through. We should go there some day...." remembering the gifts she held in the brightly colored valentine's-day bag; she cut herself off. "Oh!... I have something for you!" She kneels, and holds the bag out for Desanm. (Leaf pressing book, bug catching kit, two Elvis CDs and a Robert Frost collection of poetry) "I got them... at work. They reminded me of you, so I got them. I know I'm late with Valentine's day." she hung her head and made a dramatic sad face. "Forgive me, valentine?"
(I am just tracking for now, but I'll be back at some point. I can think of several possibilities, but perhaps Gavin can see De again. It has been a while and most of it is my fault for allowing him to collect dust over the past couple of months. ^^; )
The voice on the intercom was vaguely familiar; feminine and soft, with a bit of of a bite to it. Almost like she was irritated. The girl was good with voices, could put a face to most of the ones she'd heard. But it was only until the woman admitted her name that she recognized it. She'd only met her once, after all, months ago. She lived across the entire country, did she not? Why was she here? Curious, dark eyebrows lowered, she pressed the button to let her in the building. She was left to ponder for a few minutes while she waited for Aegle to come up and knock on the door, and when she did, opened it with a hint of uncertainty. The woman looked much the same way she did last time. "Hi! She said with a bit of surprise, green eyes almost searching her for answers. "I remember you...what'cha doing out here?"
CelticMystress:
"Pfft, I'm old enough to take care of myself while he's at work." Desanm asserted with a certain airiness, dismissing the idea with a wave of her hand. "But I still like hanging out with you. Yup, she played music all the time on one of those record player things. She liked a lot of jazz and older music; I used to dance with her, it was fun." She reminisced, a lofty expression drawn across her face. Her eyes left the ceiling and stared back at her friend's silvery ones, suppressing a laugh. "Of course you'd like the graveyards. That does sound cool though. Ack, there's so many places I want to visit, isn't there? Except for living in Chicago for a couple weeks when I was born, I've never left this state." Her thoughts trailed on for a bit in her head, mostly wondering what the rest of the world looked like. "Holy crap, thank you!" She exclaimed, forgetting the unwritten rule that young girls shouldn't swear. She could have done much worse, anyway, with the associations she had. She examined the items one by one, giving a gasp of excitement each time and grinning madly. "This stuff is so cool, thank you thank you thank you! And I have something for you too- let me go find it." She scrambled up and dashed to her room before coming back with things in her hand. A handmade card, with a photograph of the two of them taken a few weeks before inside, and a beaded necklace with a few skull-shaped beads thrown in. A bit cute, a bit morbid- it seemed like her style.
faunet:
"Is..is that so?" He phrased slowly, eyes casually meeting the floor in what looked like thought. He had no idea what she meant, of course, in her tone. "Ah... well, you looked like you knew what you were doing. He said lightly.
Oz's dog sprang into a frenzy of barking when Tuna sounded the buzzer. Half-smiling, the woman ran a hand through her windblown hair and leaning against the frame of the door. "Guess who." Her deep voice could be heard faintly inside the flat, and it sounded grainy, but hopefully Des could recognize it. It was a weekday, Oz was gone, but if Lady Bones was there, she would recognize her right away anyways.
FLEF:
Aegle stood in the door slightly hunched over. She was wearing some high-waisted shorts with a flannel tucked in, typical of the careless girl. She only had a brown backpack on which was odd considering she would be here a few days at the least. She looked down at her clothes a moment and a exaggerated, contorted face appeared before she slowly looked up to see the small girl. She made an gawky smile and her eyes scanned back and forth.
It was intriguing for Aegle to see such a small girl that seemed so grown up. It was like a seventeen year old trapped in a small body. "Heyyy....", she said slowly.
She tried to search for words and she shuffled her hands through her shorts pockets and groped to reach the zipper of her backpack looking for something. "I was just in town, some art thing, and w-well I wanted to see how you were doing. Maybe take you to lunch or something?"
She scratched her head slightly, "Anyone else home?" she said lurching forward slightly.
Bones took up the card and opened it. The picture of the two of them rested inside. It was beautiful, and the necklace caught her off guard. "This is perfect Des! You made this...?" she hugged the small girl tightly, and when she looked at her again, she did look older. The moment was put on hold when a voice spoke. LB listened very carefully and walked over to the door like a cat. It was Tuna. She pressed the button. "Hey babe, Oz ain't home, but we are!" Bones laughed and then let De hit the "open door" button.
(Trackers, have no fear. We worked this out kind of. 8D)
CelticMystress & Fayne:
"You like it?" She reveled, secretly glad she liked it even if it was hardly a gift good enough for her friend. Her head lifted up again as Bones stood abruptly to see who was at the door now. "Is it Tuna?" She said with a wide smile before standing up. She had to slip around Bones to cling to the blonde once the door was opened to let her in. "Hey, what's up? Oh my god, it's so cool I get to see everyone today." Desanm stepped back, flipping her dreads behind her back. "I even got to see Aegle earlier, it's crazy." She seemed pretty oblivious to the exchanged glances between them at her namedrop, but continued on uninterrupted instead. "I never get to see you two anymore. Sad huh?"
Aegle:
The girl tilted her head seeing Aegle standing there, seeming a little withdrawn. "I didn't know you were in town, that's cool." She said softly, looking her over. "Ah, well do you want to come in for a bit?" It didn't hurt to be cautious, seeing as she didn't know Aegle that well. But so far she had no reason to distrust her, right? She seemed nice enough, to her at least. "That sounds nice. Nah, Oz isn't here. You should meet him though, he's real nice."
faunet:
"Heh, yeah." He breathed in an attempt to find humor in her statement that may not have even been there, staring off into the theater again. "Oh, yeah, I'm fine." He asserted.
The door was opened quickly by a familiar woman, one whose scarred face made Tuna grin amiably. "Hey, Bones." The apartment was much warmer then the hallway, and she quickly limped inside, shutting the door behind her with a snap.
Before she could say anything else, she was greeted with Desanm's usual rapidfire chattering. "Hi, Des-" However, before she could say anything quite useful, that uttered name caught her ears and stuck to them like a sandspur. Aegle. Jesus fucking christ, why. Bones's expression passed her thoughts over as well, and T swallowed her emotions with difficulty, rigging on a smile. "Sounds like things are busy for you. I was gonna drop off some stuff for Oz, but since he's not here and I'm off work, guess I could chill for a bit."
FLEF:
A smile grin appeared on her face as she slumped through the door. In her head she could only laugh at the fact the girl seemed skeptical of her visit, though she had been fighting with Masque as of recently. Maybe she knew?
Once through the door Aegle stood behind Desamn, eagerly looking throughout the apartment. She then walked over at sat on the couch with force. "Ah, that Oz guy is your stepfather, right? I couldn't remember his name over the intercom, sorry." Her face turned slightly red hoping that Desamn had not heard her swearing early.
She was slightly intrigued by this Oz. She had only heard good things about him, and she could blatantly tell her was kind to Desamn. She looked over at Desamn, "Is he good to you? I mean you enjoy living with him?"
She stood up, leaving her backpack on the ground by the couch and walked to the kitchen while saying, "Would you rather eat lunch here? I make an amazing grilled cheese sandwich." She chuckled. "But I can make you anything, really. Provided you have the ingredients." By this time she was already searching through the cabinets and fridge.
Flef/Feyn: Bones smiled at Desanm when she saw the both of them reunited. Aegle, the word echoed in her mind, and she had exchanged glances with Tuna the moment her name was spoken. "Isn't she with Mar...?" Bones said, not half looking for an answer. She barely knew the woman, but she knew Aegle was quite the social butterfly, to say the least. There had been a small conversation with Aegle over Baal, and how it would not end well for the poor girl if she got it Bones' way.
Aegle accepted this.
No hard feelings...
Bones smirked evilly at Tuna, and tapped her clawed finger to her lips. She pulled her sleek black cell phone out of her coat, a melody of numbers followed. The tall, white haired woman was grinning quite cruelly.
"Oz...? Ah yes, it's me again... hey-- De just told me Aegle stopped up earlier. Yep. Mmhmm. So, if anything... fishy goes on. Don't take it seriously, alright babe? I mean... Yeah... Mmhm. Take it easy babe. Bye."
She shut her cellphone and nodded to Tuna and hugged her.
"Good to see ya girl, how you been? Stopped up to see the blonde earlier. Looks like he's doing well." Bones' silver eyes met De's.
"So, you have two adults at your disposal, what do you want to do kiddo? We can get a bunch of scary movies and stay up late drinking soda. Or is that too lame?" She laughed and then flashed a smile to Tuna.
T raised an eyebrow at Bones's message, but was swept into a hug before she could formulate a sentence. Funny, most people in this situation - or embrace, rather - would have ended up with one of the older woman's knives in their back. She grinned at the pirate's proposal. "Oh please. I've been the champion of scary movie festivals for a long time. Never once flinched. Think you're up for it?" However, the minute Des glanced away, she was at Bones's side, murmuring, "Think that message was a little vague. We're gonna have to warn him fully whenever he gets back."
"Hm, more like adoptive father." She said thoughtfully while wandering slowly over, feet shuffling through the carpet, and lowered herself onto the couch next to the woman. "I was just kinda wondering around for a few years, so he was nice enough to let me live with him. He's cool like that." She added, giving her a snapshot of a teeth-baring grin that Aegle could probably recognize with ease. "Yeah, he's awesome. Probably spoils me with how nice he is. And besides, without him, I might not have anywhere to live. Her tone was lackadaisical, swinging her heels and staring at her lap with a smile. Her grassy colored eyes darted up at the woman's face when she spoke. "Oh, that might be a good idea. I don't think I should go off with someone he doesn't know too well, you know? Yeah, he's got a lot of food in there, I don't think he'll mind." She watched Aegle while she started in the kitchen, thinking of a topic of conversation and leaning on the counter with elbows propped up. "So what kind of art do you do?"
CelticMystress & Fayne:
Curious but smart enough to not question it, she listened while Bones felt the need to call up her guardian and talk to him. She only guessed it was something about Aegle she didn't know, or hadn't caught on to, but she fancied herself to be pretty perceptive. There were times she thought maybe the woman seemed a little amorous around some people, but she only attributed that to being friendly. But, she trusted Tuna and Bones to know what they were talking about. "Hah, I like that idea. I'll take you up on that; bet you both I can go through the scariest movie you can think of without getting scared." Her eyes narrowed playfully, ready to take on whatever challenge they wished to present.
faunet:
Fledermaus looked up in thought, scratching the back of his neck while thinking out loud. "There's one further up the street; corner of 3rd and Mason. I...can't remember the name. But it's a pretty nice place."
Flef:
Aegle listened intently to the young girl while grabbing some cheese from the fridge and two piece of bread of the counter. She threw a pan on the stove top and turned it on all in one quick motion. "Ahh, well I'm happy to hear that. Come on now, you'd always have somewhere to live. He- Heck, I'd take you."
She smeared some butter on each side of the bread and threw them on the pan. She turned around and face the girl, her hands propping her up on the counter. "Will he be around anytime soon? It'd be nice to meet him--- after all I can't trust him until I see him." A small laugh escapes her before she swings around and throws a few slices o cheese on the bread. She then puts them together and presses them down in the pan with a spatula. A loud hissing is heard before she trots over and searching through the cabinet for a cup. "A little of this a little of that, sketches, painting, sculpture. How 'bout you, what do you do in your spare time?" she said as she shuffled loudly through the cabinets.
Fled:
[Damn you're popular XD' I've wanted to reply to this since you posted, but you have a lot to respond to now...if you'd rather not take on anything else that's ok :3]
The phone had become his enemy.
Look at it, sitting there…thought it was so smug, being the gateway into social normalcy and all. Right now it seemed to hold the key to everything. It was challenging him…and today he was going to defeat it.
Darcy stared hard at it as he stroked the glass in his hands, half filled with pale yellow liquid. Alcohol, of some kind…he hadn’t bothered looking at the bottle, and the tastes all blurred together anymore. Light filtered in through slatted blinds, casting shadows across him and the table. His cluttered apartment was still rather dim, but he had opened the curtains today, at least. Baby steps.
Glowering at the landline, he brought the shot to his lips and tossed it back, finishing it off before boldly reaching for the phone and yanking it off the hook and bringing it to his ear. His fingers hesitated over the numbers, his mind numb to the combinations he used to know…then his eyes shifted to the list of auto-dial options on the side. Fledermaus’ name was still there, scrawled in red ink, drawing his attention.
Fled…what could he say to Fled?
Just as Darcy thought better of making a fool out of himself to his once best friend he realized the phone was ringing. He had pushed the button! Gah! He jerked the receiver from his ear, holding it out away from him and seriously considered hanging up. Coward. He put the phone hesitantly back up to his ear again, balancing it between his shoulder and his chin as he desperately reached for the bottle of alcohol and filled his glass, waiting for the familiar voice to answer.
Shi: (Pfft, hardly. I think it's mainly the fact that my characters are all attention-whores. 8D)
Warm air flowed in through the window cracked open against the far wall; an unusually comfortable temperature for the area this early in the year. It might have been nice to enjoy the milder weather and go over this paperwork outside, if only for the fact that he knew it'd be far too distracting and he'd most likely end up taking a walk instead.
And besides, this had to be done.
Chocolaty brown eyes studied the short stack of papers on the table before him. Bills, receipts, and rental forms mostly. He'd been hoping to more or less tally up the price tag attached to this wedding, and stay ahead of it instead of waiting until the last minute to pay things off. It wouldn't be a large affair, but nevertheless he wasn't getting any help with expenses from his parents who may not have even cared any of this was happening. That was yet to be determined.
Pen lowered to a notebook, he began writing numbers in a left-handed scrawl.
Not two minutes of scanning the paper later was the silence broken by the pitch of ringing from the phone a few feet away. Fledermaus gladly stood up and grabbed the receiver, already growing tired of his work. "Hello?"
“Hello?”
Fled answered the phone far more quickly then Darcy expected, startling him a little, his hand slipping on the bottle and accidentally pouring much more then what would fit in the glass. It spilled over onto the desk, splashing onto some papers stacked messily nearby. “Ah shit,” he cursed, scrambling to save works, temporarily forgetting he was on the line. Suddenly he froze, realizing his mistake and panicking a little. “Fled!” he practically shouted into the phone, wincing upon realizing it and scrambling further, “Sorry! Sorry…don’t hang up!”
He set the phone down and ran to the kitchen for a towel, laying it on the table to soak up the mess before it got to and ruined anything else. He sighed and picked the phone up again, hesitating. “Sorry. I said that already… Hey! It’s D,” he finally greeted, gritting his teeth after every word. Why did he sound so excited for christ sake? Now he would have to say something useful! He paused, but couldn’t think of anything, and began to chew at the inside of his lip. Maybe Fled would have something to say? Psh ‘you’ called ‘him’ you moron.
He blinked and looked back at the instrument, in its dismembered state with loose parts still laying around. "I'll probably be here a while."
Shiori:
The atypical greeting from the other end of the line was something quite unexpected, and with a quizzical expression across his face he listened to the frantic happenings as they unfolded. It was a voice faintly familiar cursing into the receiver, but as always the telephone distorted it to a point at which he was not entirely sure he could put a face to it. The man on the line spoke his name, though, asked him to not hang up, so it must have been someone he knew. He waited, still standing in place with a readable expression of bafflement, until the voice returned with a new level of calmness. "Darcy?" He asked in confirmation, momentarily trying to count how long it had been since they communicated last. "Hey, it's good to hear from y- Are you alright?" While at least now he knew who he was talking to, he realized that the commotion had been left unanswered.
Was that surprise he detected in the other’s tone? How many other ‘D’s did he know? Not that it was all that original a nickname…and not that he didn’t expect surprise…sigh. Ten seconds into the nonexistent conversation and already his mind was wandering. Still, he couldn’t help but smile halfheartedly at the ‘it’s good to hear from you part’, however abruptly it was cut off by concern. “Are you alright?”
His smile grew brighter and he chuckled quietly, leaning back in his chair. “What a cruel thing to ask, Fled. You should know better,” he mused at his own expense, lodging his foot beneath his desk and turning his chair from side to side. “Yeah, yeah, just a little accident, no worries. Sorry for the profanity…Man, its been a while huh? How have you been?”
Rather standard question perhaps, but Darcy was content with keeping to the basics. He had heard the news about him and Wyvern, and wondered if he’d bring it up, hoping the guy had more material then he did.
Fayne/Fled: (Sorry you guys, I've been sick, and sleeping constantly for two days. Sorry for the wait.) Bones let her clawed hand drop to Tuna's shoulder. "Showed up just in time kiddo, De hasn't started the party yet, up to it? Shi--...." she looked at the girl at her waist, and shrugged. "Shit, this is De's night. Lets make it good, while Ozzy is out." she winked at the small, excited girl. Tuna whispered in her ear, and she nodded, "No better time than the present, I can take care of it, hun." She walked slowly into the next room, dialing the phone once more.
"Ozzy!... Yeah hi. You don't mind if I call you Ozzy, right? That'swhatIthought. Okay. Not in future tense-" she walked a little further into the seperate room and hushed her voice. "If she fucked you, kissed you, or did anything to turn you on, don't take it seriously, alright babe? Yeah. She's with someone else. Sorry, bummer--right?.. Mmhm. Take care." She came back into the room, shut the cellphone casually and smiled at T, she promised herself this would be the last time she whispered something away from De. "There! If he can't get that through his head, a bullet might do it." then looked down at De. "Don't worry sweetheart, T and I are just making sure Oz is alright with us hanging out with you..." Then she knelt to De's level, narrowing her own silver eyes, smirking playfully.
"The Grudge? The Ring? Final Destination? The Shining?"
She had a downright hilarious way of taking care of things. Doing her best to not erupt into laughter, T followed the pair into the living room, snorting at Bones's suggestions. "HA. If Final Destination is scary, then so is my left boob. Try Fourth Kind. That's the best one I can think of." Tossing her jacket on Oz's couch, she limped across the room and reclined in an armchair, resting her hand gently on her bum leg. "I'll make popcorn or something in a second. Where's the dog?"

CelticMystress: A giggle
"Nice to meet you." He replied, shaking her hand and giving a nod. "So, are you practicing for play?

Aegle: The voice on the
The voice on the intercom was vaguely familiar; feminine and soft, with a bit of of a bite to it.

FLEF: Aegle stood in the door
Bones took up the card and

The door was opened quickly
Before she could say anything else, she was greeted with Desanm's usual rapidfire chattering. "Hi, Des-" However, before she could say anything quite useful, that uttered name caught her ears and stuck to them like a sandspur. Aegle. Jesus fucking christ, why. Bones's expression passed her thoughts over as well, and T swallowed her emotions with difficulty, rigging on a smile. "Sounds like things are busy for you. I was gonna drop off some stuff for Oz, but since he's not here and I'm off work, guess I could chill for a bit."

FLEF: A smile grin appeared

Flef: Aegle listened intently

I think
"Hello?"
“Hello?” Fled answered the
Fled answered the phone far more quickly then Darcy expected, startling him a little, his hand slipping on the bottle and accidentally pouring much more then what would fit in the glass.
[Oh D, you're such a fail]
faunet: He blinked and
He blinked and looked back at the instrument, in its dismembered state with loose parts still laying around.
