Chapter 2
Two worlds collide.


The birds melody awakened me this ,morning along with the shine of the sun.Climbing down the ladder I incoherently brushed my fingures through my hair.Dismissing random bits of straw. I placed som feed in the cows bins,moveing along to the horses.Gathering the eggs was next in my simple routine.The hens clucked in protest as I shoed them from their nest.Taking the eggs in I noticed Ted getting on his shoes."Where are you going?"placing my hands on my hips."With brother to town for three days"he replied happily."Hmm ok give him this "handing Ted a list of supplies they needed. Ted took the paper with only a nod in agreement.Swishing past her little brother she made her way into her room where Luta was wide awake."Morning"she greeted."Hows your leg?""Better "he replied simply."Can you stand on it?'" Luta made a movement to try to stand,extending out her hand for support,Luta grasped it.The attempt was good he could stand,and there appeared to be no swelling."Hungry"she questioned.A simple nod told her yes."Come on then" she led him into the kitchen."You can sit their if you like"gesturing torwards the chair.Anna put a skillet on the stove to cook breakfast.Humming a song it was not long before she heard both her brothers renter the house.Anna imediately heard her little brother chatting with Luta boys she thought. But her eldest brothers prescence seemed to be rather stale this morning."Breakfast is ready "she said cheerfully.Putting the plates down every one started eating. Their was only a cold silence instead of gay talk around this meal.Anna still could not believe her brothers behavior. Taking aim at her brothers shin she kicked him playfully.He returned the manner with a smile and a harder kick to her shin."Take care "he hugged her before setting out."I always do she smiled."Oh colonel Miles will be stopping by later" he laughed teasingly."All the more reason for a ride"she muttered.A few minutes her brothers set of to town."Those warriors are probably still close by right"she said turning her attention to Luta.He nodded"They are probably looking for me." "Well lets go find them"walking torwards the door to fetch Midnight.Luta followed close behind.Anna sweettalked Midnight for a minute while placing the bit in his mouth.Anna jumped on his back not bothering with saddle.She preferred riding bareback."Come on get on"stratching out her hand. In one gracefull movement Luta was on Midnight."Should we start at the river?" she suggested."The horsed would have needed water by now"he replied looking at the sun.Midnight kept a steady pace not minding the extra weight. It took about an hour to reach the river.The warriors were not in sight.But if you listened closely you could hear the fain nickering of horses."They are well hidden"Anna remarked as Luta slid off."Not if you look close enough "as he made his way to the river.Feeling safe Anna gracefully got down off her horse. Leading him to get a fresh drink of water."My brothers I come to you as the eagles soars in the sky" Luta yelled. With that the indians began to ascend one by one. Anna's heartbeat started to accelerate,not from fear,but excitement.Anna noticed that all five of the natives were rather muscular,but only one had a feather in his shoulder length raven black hair. He was the one who spoke"Youve come back little warrior" he directed his words torwards Luta,but his gaze was on Anna.His look was of recognition." Yes Tokalah,I have returned with the help of this women".jestering to Anna.Anna smiled saying"Hello"she shifted her weight from right to left.Midnight picked his head up to take a look at the new people,but soon went back to grazing. One of the other Indians spoke in a wary but hars voice " Why would a white women help us"his hand flickering to knife."Because I judge a person by their actions and how they represent them selves individually. Not by the color of their skin"she said in rather afirmative voice."Thanks for returning Luta" Tokalah said."No problem. I trust youll be ok now" Anna questioned Luta. Luta gave a chin up gesture.Anna jumped on Midnight's back but before riding off Tokalahs expression caught her attention. It was the same recognizing look,but also havong a longing mixed into it. Giving a brief smiled she nudged Midnight to gallop. Allowing the wind to whip in her hair she laughed ,but she was still aware of the gaze that was on her.
