It was 3:59 AM in a dark bedroom. A strange ambiance kept the room from staying silent. The tower fan at the foot of the bed blew gently, keeping the room cool and a comfortable current circulating. A wind chime nailed on the wall next to the bed was lightly sounding as the current moved past, making wooden clonks much like a
shishiodo. A Native dreamcatcher also flutters above the bed, the feathers in the breeze as if they were moving all their own.
There he slept, covered in fleece blankets, some nights having strangely pleasant dreams, but this night he was haunted by a terrible nightmare he could not escape from. One arm dangled off the bed, he always seemed to fall asleep like this. Pressed against his back was a warm dachshund who dozed this night as well.
The clock changes to 4:00 AM, and a gust of unnatural wind blows through the room. The wind chime rattled loudly, the blankets and other things seemed to flow like waves in the ocean.
At the foot of the bed was a glowing specter, body fully white and glistening brightly in the darkness. Four beautiful wings outstretched and flowing in the strange wind.
And then the breeze died down, back to the simple flowing of the fan. The man and his dog remained asleep during this, though both were shivering now - not from the cold, but from the darkness.
The specter was a beautiful deer, his brown eyes filled with compassion and love. He approached the side of the bed and rubbed his white chest against the man's hand.
"That's quite enough, Iugulare. Let him go.", Quad's voice spoke in the near-silence. The stoat emerged from the bodies of both the man and dog, and looked up to the deer.
"He belongs to me. His dreams are mine to control.", the stoat hissed, her infectious body still covering their bodies.
Quad shook his head,
"This has gone on for too long. He needs his rest, so I will ask again. Please let him go.", he spoke, politely to his rival.
The stoat wrapped around the dachshund, and at once the dog started kicking and whimpering loudly.
"Then I keep the dog."
"No Iugulare! This is your last warning. Leave quietly or I'll force you out.", Quad was starting to lose his temper here.
The stoat hissed again, staying put. The deer had no choice, he leapt onto the bed and outstretched his wings, appearing weightless as he stood there without rocking the bed or waking the two who the stoat was terrorizing this night. His body radiated to an extreme where it seemed like daylight in the room.
Iugulare cried out, trying to find somewhere to hide, but there was no shade for her, and releasing the two, she raced out the window as if it weren't there at all, never returning to the room.
Quad's body relaxed and the light subsided. He stepped off of the bed and nuzzled the man's hand once again.
"Pleasant dreams, Chris and Brandy.", he spoke, and smiling, he flapped his great wings and flew out the window himself, passing through the glass effortlessly while creating the strong breeze once again.
Brandy opened her eyes and yawned. Stretching, she shook her head, her ears flapping loudly before she dropped down from the bed. This woke Chris up as well, who got up to take her out. A few moments later he returned with the dog, and laying down, he found a white feather laying on the side of his pillow. Ignoring it, he drifted to sleep and had beautiful dreams from then on.
