Kan is not old, but not young. He's not dead, yet not alive. Despite this, he still feels pain and emotion.

He frequently experiences pain in his back and neck, but has his bursts of energy every now and again that allows him to run and play around for a short amount of time. Other deer may find that he can be very active one moment, before pain sets in and he will try to not move too much. Because of this, he might be slow while following them through the forest, and it takes a patient deer to lead him around.

A deer who wants to wish him well, may greet him with the devout pelt, or bring him to de Drinkplaats while they hang out with him, as these two things relieve him from his pains for a while.
