♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I awake from a long, dreamless slumber,
Legs aching, the air resting thick and musty
Against my pelt.
The twin gods are silent.
A flock of birds skitters past,
Reminding me that life exists in this place.
I am alive.
But how do I know?
I sit and wait,
Just to make sure.
You would tell me, right?
The fog obscures the distance.
We run for miles.
Limbo.
The word emerges from some inner depth I cannot fathom.
A giggle.
...From where?
I am alone.
We ran for miles...
The one who doesn't care and
The one who does.
The one who claws in terror at these endless miles and
The one who dances in the oak's black shadow.
The one who giggles at
The one who fears.
I am alone.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The forest is filled with wild music.
The birds are jeering
And the trees seem to sway and laugh.
It frightens me into a smile.
A grin of absolution.
If my home is mad,
Then so must I be.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I sit upon a glassy lake,
With lily pads and gentle koi.
I have finally found peace with this dark forest.
The black oak hides me from my fears,
As it once created them.
The mushroom giants assure
That I am never hungry.
The loneliness...
I can cope.
A movement disrupts the water's surface.
I wake to find... who?
A somebody?
So familiar, this scent,
Yet the face...
I cannot remember it.
She teaches me again to frolick.
Again, to laugh.
I remember myself.
And her.
I am small, yes,
But so is she.
While she sleeps,
I will protect her from this darkness.
This darkness all around...
And inside...
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
For the first time in days,
I awoke in sunlight.
My aching legs sprang into action.
I ran swiftly,
Something tugging at the back
Of my mind.
If I run fast enough,
I can leave it behind.
Leave what behind?
The question burned.
So fast, the trees blurred.
The birds jeered and squirrels erupted
From my feet.
All too soon, the darkness overcame.
Again, surrounded by the black forest.
Snowfall. Loneliness.
Never fast enough.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Alight in a sea of darkness.
The snow curls down from
A black heaven.
I could cry out,
But who would hear?
Fear means nothing.
Instead, legs shaking, I dance.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I learned today...
One does not have to be a deer
To make a good playmate.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Going through some old memories,
I found something I hold very dear.
A stag who made me feel I belonged.
Thank you, Gustiro.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The gods were listening!
They graced me with not one,
But two playmates ♥
This strange place takes on new life.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
It's beautiful here, yes,
But lonely, too.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The forest smelled strange today.
Snow was falling
(Or was it flowers?)
And the dark trees echoed with
An excited tremor.
It reminds me, faintly,
Of something half-remembered.
Or, perhaps,
Of something entirely new.

A Look Back...
(Since I wasn't doing this in August...)
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I had a dream today.
The forest was dark.
I carried myself on powerful legs
Swiftly through the blue-green trees.
At once,
Into a cemetery,
Sniffing at names and dates I could not read.
Not far away, a fawn lay.
He lay so still.
So still.
A cool breeze blew the fawn away,
And all that was left was me:
A strong stag,
Alone in the dark forest.
This dream...
This premonition...
Is this where my future lies?
To grow, must I also fade away?
(Inspired by
Premonition of Future Self.)
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Do you mind if I follow?
For just a bit, we skip.
A bit turns into a while.
A while turns into forever.
And then...
In a moment, you are gone.
Where? I cry out,
Looking frantically to either side.
How to lose a red-pelted stag?
There! I rush again to your side.
I don't know who you are, but
Thank you, my sometimes companion,
For putting up with this little fawn ♥
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
We all gathered around the big stones.
Together, we bowed and prayed until
The forest glowed with purity.
Why did my white fade faster than yours?
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Keke~ You came to play, yes?
I have a fun game.
After the sun sets,
We can play hide and seek.
Hide in the Old Oak...
You'll never be found again~

This mini-diary will be used to record (somewhat cryptically) his movements. I'll probably make a new one every month or so, so that it doesn't get bogged down with text and images :3
Feel free to interact with him here ♥

/rollstalk ♥ I love
I love the way he describes the 'dark forest' or so I have been saying it to myself. XD Totally captures the loneliness of it.
Has Ysrael gone to stand in
I've been calling it the 'dark forest' to myself, too XD And when others' pictographs don't show up on the edges (even though the network says other people are logged in), I think, "The dark forest is muffling their voices.."
No but standing in front of

Ohh, exceptionally creepy! Have you noticed the new border, too? I think the extra little lines add a nice touch~
Unless she's approaching
Oooh, I actually hadn't noticed it consciously, although I did feel like it was nicer for some reason XD;;
Don't think I'll do this

"Do not worry... my friend...
In darkness you will learn to appreciate the light."
ohohoho
SHE SPEAKS
She must think very highly of Vo, for her first words in the forest to be for him~
"How can I appreciate the

*so flattered* TuT *bubbles happily* And this is true for Ysrael, as well~ For him to speak his thoughts... a very momentous occasion, indeed~
She pauses for a long moment,
"Within darkness there is always warmth. Each day you spend here, every face you see brings more joy than the last, does it not?"
"As long as you still feel that happiness, you will not be lost..."
Her words trail off, engulfed by the surrounding blackness.
He knit his brow, mulling
"I suppose... If it is your face, I am satisfied. But I feel happiness with many things. Happiness with the numbing water. Happiness with the snow, which falls but never gathers. This cold ache... it is only temporary. I can see that now. Once it disappears, I will be happy all the time, whether or not there is warmth."
"Then, I am glad." Ysrael
"There is nothing in this world that lasts forever."
It seemed an odd thing to say, but something in her mind told her that it was an important thing to remember. In fact, all of the words she was speaking struck her as odd, as if being spoken from the mouth of another. But, odd as they were, she could not stop herself from voicing them.
Vodun giggled, surprising
"That being the case... we should play then, yes?"
For the first time in a while, he felt and sounded like a fawn. The ache returned stronger than ever, tugging at his heart, but he ignored it. He could deal with such things later.
Ysrael laughed along with
She untangled her legs from under her, noticing droplets of water beginning to fall from the treetops onto her nose. She stared up in awe, blinking away the tiny splashes that hit her face.
"The snow, it's melted..." she said in awe. And to think that in her early days of being in the forest, she'd thought there would be nothing but eternal sunshine.
Vo's eyes widened as he, too,
"Maybe..." his throat caught. "Maybe... there will be a rainbow...?"
He knew in his heart that the idea was impossible. Rainbows flourished only in light. Still...
He started off toward the lake... the only place he could think of that had a view unimpeded by trees, casting a look over his shoulder to ask silently if she would follow.
Ysrael tilted her head
Would there be a rainbow? Most likely not... But, it wouldn't hurt to look, right? She breathed in the cool air, smelling of earth and grass, accentuating by the falling rain. Even if there wasn't a rainbow... something else? There was something else... but the memory, like her words, was taking its time in reaching her.
Once he was sure she was
Still, he couldn't have been any happier.
He turned to look for his companion, which was somewhat difficult in the dense, wet darkness.
He opened his mouth to moo a question, but the forest beat him. It called forth a great crash, and a wave of heat that left his ears burning. The darkness of the forest receded as a red cloud lit up the grass.
Vo's legs were stuck in place as he stared. A tree not twenty feet from him with flames that curled for miles into the heavens.
Ysrael let out an unwilling
Smoke billowed from the burning tree as the flames spat and hissed in protest of the rain that was pounding down upon them. Embers danced wildly from the branches and landed at Ysrael's hooves, extinguishing themselves among the gathering puddles.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she fought to breathe in the heated air, and she summoned enough will to send her legs bounding to where Vodun was standing.
"... Never strikes twice..." she murmured to herself, eyes wide and staring up at the spectacle before them.
Vodun felt Ysrael's approach,
He turned to Ysrael, a laugh bubbling from his lips, "Do you see it?! Do you feel it? The warmth! You were right, it is... so wonderful!"
The light danced behind her
"Beautiful..." she found her mouth forming the word as Vodun's infectious laughter spread to her. She swayed her body from side to side, mimicking the movements of the flames. "I've never seen so much before! When do you think the rain will put it out?"
=3 I'm here...stalking your
Thank you, Havak!
-----
Vodun took a step back, shocked at the idea. "The rain... put out the sun? Can it?"
He had never seen fire, and so didn't know the rules of such things. All he knew, at the moment, was that the rain was soothing the "sun's" harsh rays. It seemed, to him, the perfect combination. Why did they have to be mutually exclusive?
ohh nifty rain animation icon

"The... sun?" Ysrael questioned him. She stared back up at the burning mass uneasily. Is this a sun? It could be, with how it lights our surroundings... No... There is only one sun, far away in the sky. Isn't there?
She didn't know why it was such a hard concept for her to grasp, but the nagging feeling would not let her be.
"This... cannot be the true sun," she ventured. "Our sun circles above our heads during the day, and rests at night. It could not be here now."
Her words seemed to be more sure of themselves than she was.
Thankyoooou! It took way too
♥ ♥ ♥
He recoiled against her logic, his chest tightening.
"Why must it remain overhead?" he started, too defensive. Who was she to say this light wasn't the sun? The sun he'd waited for... The sun he'd prayed to the gods to deliver. Who was she to take it away from him? "Perhaps it is stuck on earth. Perhaps that's why the darkness has lasted so long. The sun is tired. Perhaps it fell here!" He backed up another step, eyes wide with desperation.
Cryptic stuff here=absolute
Ysrael's ears twitched back
"Look... even now, the rain eats away at this false sun." her body moved towards the wavering flames high above, as if proving there was nothing divine about the spectacle before them. The tree's base groaned and creaked as the fire jumped into it's upper branches, straining to support itself now with the damage of the initial strike. Bits of bark splintered away and fell into the shallows of the pond around their hooves.
"Our true sun does not destroy life; but creates it!" Ysrael bellowed at the heavens in defiance, indignant to the embers flying wildly downwards.
To anyone interested, I've
