rp for Tale and Tamas

Golden bars of light filtered through the upper canopy and settled into warm pools on the forest floor. In one of these pools could be found a particular small and grey stag laying on his side. Long black hair was spread around him as he drowsily watched dust particles dancing in the sunbeams, completely peaceful and undisturbed until a bug zoomed through it and made them swirl crazily.
He didn't quite know where he was except that he'd passed the big brown shape that made humming noises when he made his short trek to this patch of sunlight. The partially exposed side of his face felt a little too warm so he rolled over onto his other side and pulled off his mask with his knees to let it air out--he hadn't been socialized enough to feel embarrassed or ashamed by his facial injury.

The fawn awoke to a steady,

The fawn awoke to a steady, calming hum, one they could almost say mimicked their mother's heartbeat. As they blinked away sleep, however, the world around them came into view - a vibrant forest, already alive with insects, birds, and sunlight. Tale's ears flicked down as the sounds became overwhelming, shakily getting up on spindly, short legs. Light filtered through the opening in the old oak's trunk, and Tale slowly padded towards the entrance, poking their head outside carefully. At the sight of Tamas, they jumped, hastily backing up into the oak again. Taking a moment to compose themselves, Tale slowly stepped out again, taking a few steps towards the stag before cocking their head. "H-hello?"

(auh, I know how you feel x_x Maybe this would be worth your time to look through~? It's got a gender neutral pronoun chart of wonders 8U *got ridiculously excited about finding a chart*)

The faint sound of hoofbeats caught the attention of his one whole ear. Such a sound was common to him and generated little reaction, but he still took his sweet time turning his head to look at whatever it was that was making noises at him. It was one of those little ones that moved quickly. Most of a time they were a nuisance, but this one looked a little different and perhaps it was that nameless difference that provided the will he needed to pull himself up to his full height. He knew he was small compared to the other beings in this forest, but this fawn was even smaller! Something thin and transparent fluttered on the ruined side of his face as he looked the creature over and over with a curious look on the whole side of his face.
Tamas tipped his head the same way the fawn did and wondered.

Tale's ears flicked in wonder

Tale's ears flicked in wonder as ne took in the sight of the stag, milky-white eyes widening in wonder. Ne took a few more steps forward, stopping a few feet away and sitting down, eyes still locked on the other deer. The stag was much smaller than the other deers of the forest, and, consequently, much less terrifying, giving the fawn the courage to speak up. Not wanting to startle him, Tale lowered nir voice, almost whispering. "Hello! I-I'm Tale. What's your name?" The miniscule fawn smiled encouragingly, tail wagging as ne waited.

[ooh! :0 I tried it out, hopefully it reads a touch better~ <3 oh, and reference: tale generally keeps nir eyes closed, but when they're open they're a white that resembles someone blind. ne has bad vision, similar to having cataracts. c:]

The small creature was

The small creature was obviously relaxed by something. He took a few steps himself towards nir and was unconcerned enough when ne sat down that he didn't feel the need to mimic the action. Both ears cupped towards nirs voice (though all the left ear could do was make a handful of pitiful movements) and the grey stag, as inexperienced as he was with speaking, could tell by nir voice that ne was very much calm and wanted to be nice. His eye blinked several times as he concentrated on trying to return the noises ne made.
"Haaah.. ah!" The voice that came from his mouth was high and wavering, but it was a voice nonetheless. He gave ne a gigantic smile and shuffled his hooves, proud of himself for having said "hello," saying his version a few more times to make sure ne heard and would be excited as well.

(It does indeed! Using variations of "they" and "it" can be so frustrating when you're trying to write x__x POOR BABU ;__; /gives nir some glasses and all is well in Fish's world lol )

Tale grinned back at the

Tale grinned back at the exclamations, pleased to meet a deer that didn't attack nem. Ne spoke up, noticing through nir cloudy vision that one of his ears seemed hurt. "Hello!" Ne bleated back, giggling in elation. "I'm Tale," ne repeated, this time dragging out the pronunciation.

"What's your name? A-and what're you doin'?" Ne tilted nir head, the movement causing the flowers wrapped around nir head and neck to shift, a few dried petals and leaves floating down to the forest floor. Struck with an idea, Tale carefully bent nir head, plucking a freshly blossomed hyacinth from nir coat. Ne got up and gently placed it behind the stag's unharmed ear, smiling warmly one ne was done.

"There! Now you've got a bit of the forest with you!"

[omg he's so cUTE BABY!! ;v; /snuggles him!!/ yeah, it gets repetitive really quickly. x) hehe, now I gotta doodle ne with big fisheye glasses. :'D oh oh, I'm workin' on a fullbody ref, but for now Tale has flowering vines wrapped around nir forehead, neck and midriff. c:]

A noise indicative of

A noise indicative of happiness spasmed in his throat. "Hah!" He chortled in return and wiggled his body joyously. There was one word ("Tale") that was drawn out to get his attention to it. Tamas smacked his lips and tried, "A-ay..?" before listening to what ne said, all the while feeling very confused but more intrigued by this curious fawn than he'd been in anything for a long while. The concept of names was foreign to him and he'd never been given one.
His confusion was forgotten when some of nir floral decorations were disturbed. His own were very precious to him and it made him a little disturbed to see what he thought to be very beautiful things falling apart like that. His eye shone with kindness as the other took one of nir flowers and put it behind his ear. A sweet aroma was brought to his nose and he smiled at nem. He'd seen deer kissing one another and it looked like a nice thing to do, so he tried, but all he remembered was the part that involved puckering lips.
So he made a kissy face at nem.

(aww thank you ;u; <3 Tale is such a sweetie! auughfshof yes I can't wait to see that! You have such a lovely character already )

Tale's eyes widened at the

Tale's eyes widened at the face, before ne giggled again, tail wagging happily. Ne leaned forward and gave Tamas a quick, soft kiss, before blushing tomato red and grinning. "The flower compliments you! You should wear them often," ne added with a cheerful flick of the ears. Taking a chance, Tale scooted forward, before gently nuzzling the stag's healthy cheek.

"You're very friendly! My family would've liked you," the fawn continued with a slightly muted tone and a droop of the ears, before perking back up. "Do you live in the forest too?"

[hehe, glad you like the ref! <33 and aaaaa thank you wwah! ;v; I LOVE Tamas goshshshs. <3]

Having expected another gift

Having expected another gift of flowers, Tamas had leaned his head down. A surprised look jumped onto his face and he looked at Tale with an eyebrow raised--he was amazed to realize that that was the proper way to give kisses. He smiled at nir happy words and the warm, honeyed feeling that was spreading through his face from his first kiss. This feeling grew when ne nuzzled his cheek.
This was all such a new feeling for the young stag, he didn't know what to do with himself other than listen to his new friend speaking. Nir tone had a quality that was different from before at first, which put into his mind that he would have to show ne something nice in return. He was already putting this plan into action when ne asked if he lived in the forest.
He answered the question with a soft bleating similar to a lamb's that poured from his mouth the second that he hopped a few inches away from Tale. One of his hooves reached out and pawed at the ground a few times. He looked at ne expectantly and chuckled in the unapologetic way that one does when they haven't heard their own voice most of their life and so haven't rehearsed it so that their laughter sounds "normal."

(how could I not? Your ref is pretty popular with my friends and followers x) <3 These two are just like sweetness and adorableness incarnate I don't even)

Tale cocked nir head at the

Tale cocked nir head at the stag's sudden excitement, taking a moment to translate the movements into words. Nir ears went up when a light bulb clicked on, and ne grinned in excitement, jumping up off the dew-misted forest floor after the male. "Do you... want to show me something?" The fawn tried, trotting up to Tamas' side.

"You can lead the way. I trust you," Tale added with a genuine smile, blank eyes closing and crinkling into half-moons. "After all, you probably know your way around here better than I do. I only got here a few days ago," ne admitted with an uneasy flick of nir tail. "It's beautiful here, certainly, but it's... bigger than what I'm used to." Shaking off the mood, Tale turned nir head to Tamas with a contemplative pout.

"By the way, what's your- no, I suppose you can't tell me. Hm. Can you try to tell me what you'd like me to call you?" Tale tried, with an encouraging grin. "In case we get seperated," ne added with a quick glance around the ever-brightening forest.

[<3 u//v//u hehe~~ and omg yES BABIES aaaaa ;;;v;;; I'm developing shipping feels uwaa!! I can't wait until ne's full-grown ahahahaaaa /would draw them but nOPE DUMB EYE]

Ne was following him! Tamas

Ne was following him! Tamas play-bowed at the gentle fawn, shook his small antlers harmlessly, then bound away a few paces before turning back and looking at nem and grinning with all his teeth showing. Nir words caught in his good ear that he'd turned towards nir voice and wondered some more. He trotted back and held his face close to nirs. Close enough that Tale could have seen the bone-blank side of his face in clear detail: the inky depths of his empty eye socket, protruding cheekbone, a membrane that moved in the dark of his nasal cavity as he sniffed nem, the ruined ear and crumbly antler.
"Ay.. ayyy!" Air puffed onto nir face when he said nir name. He beamed and trotted ahead with his tail wiggling. "Am! Amm amm amm~" He babbled in a sing-song fashion as he trotted towards a hill overlooking the Ruins. While it was easily noticed that the grey stag possessed a gracefulness that was exceptional even for a deer, it somehow failed him when he reached the top of the hill and he tumbled out of sight with a small cry of "Owp!"

(they're such cuties HNNN what do with all these feels? I can't wait until ne's an adult, too @w@ /more good vibes for your eye)
Bullfinch's picture

Tale giggled at the stag's

Tale giggled at the stag's antics, bowing back and doing a tight spin before landing back on nir hindquarters. A few purple petals fluttered to the ground from the sudden burst of movement, and the fawn was so focused on them that ne didn't notice Tamas' closeness until ne looked back up. Ne's eyes widened at the stag's proximity, but the opportunity to get a better look at nir companion was tempting to say the least. Tale stayed put, not flinching as ne cocked nir head to one side, attempting to memorize the stag's features. "So cool," the fawn whispered, before being broken from nir trance by the sudden attempt at nir name. Ne grinned, nodding in encouragement.

"You got it!" Ne followed him as he got up, easily keeping up with the small deer as he danced along. Ne was only a few steps behind, humming to nemself when the trees cleared on a hilltop. Ne stopped, in awe of the surroundings, when ne heard a distressed cry. Ne turned, only to see the tip of the stag's tale disappear out of sight. Tale let out a shriek, darting forward to look over the edge of the hill. Panicking now, the fawn charged to the side of the hill, skidding and sliding down fast enough that nir flower's petals flew away from nir body, creating a small cloud of purple.

It would've been comical if ne wasn't so frightened. Darting towards the base of the hill, Tale let out another cry, turning in circles with nir ears perked to catch any reply.

[bABIES. ;v; it'll be a shipfest when ne's an adult omg. /melts/ thanks for the good vibes, haha. <33]

He'd been feeling so happy

He'd been feeling so happy that he hadn't been paying much attention to his footing and overestimated how high the last step was. Thankfully his fall had only been required a few somersaults to the bottom where he'd landed on his rump and sat still for a few dizzy moments. Tamas steadied himself with his front legs and stood up to look around at the curiously swaying Forest. The first few steps sent him towards the hollow in the earth full of red poppies and he fell down with a noise that was a mix between another cry of "owp" and a sparkling giggle. Grass and insects flew up around him.
This time he'd landed on his tummy with all legs and wild hair splayed around him. "Ayyy?" His head swung around unsteadily until he picked up the sight of his friend. "Ayy!" Legs flailed out all around him as he stumbled this way and that towards nem, feeling concerned that ne was upset and, not only that, but nirs flowers looked like they were escaping.

(I can't waaaait 8U Really hope your eye gets better! Once I decided it was a good idea attack my eyelid with my fingernails while I was sleeping (my body often tries to murder me in my sleep idk why) and the next day my eyelid was pretty upset.)
Bullfinch's picture

Tale jumped at the first

Tale jumped at the first sound, hurrying towards the stag as he got up and began to stumble. "You scared me," the fawn scolded, nuzzling the deer's good cheek in an attempt to reassure nemself. "Are you alright?" Tale's blank eyes roved over the stag's body as ne circled around him, checking for any wounds. "That looked like a bad fall," ne murmured, relaxing as ne spotted no obvious injuries.

"Hehe, you've got to be more careful! You could have hurt yourself," Tale added with a relieved smile and a twitch of her tail. "Oh, dear, your flower," ne hummed, taking in the sight of the poor crushed thing. "Here," ne said, picking out a vine from around nir neck and looping it around the stag's forehead. "That should hold a bit better!"

[short post b/c I have to drive back home!! I'll be back in 15 minutes, haha. <33 and thank you!! it's feeling a lot better. *v * I just wish my pills didn't taste so bad!]

All his attention was focused

All his attention was focused on Tale as ne came over, nuzzled his cheek (which he lowered for nir convenience), and fussed over him for a time. The attention made him happy enough to wiggle his tail in a most pleased way. Tamas felt amazement when Tale gifted him another flower, this one in a different shape and tickled against the small hairs on his forehead that he could just about see whenever he put his face close to the surface of the pond.
His face darted down towards nirs and his lips bumped against nir forehead in an attempt at a "thank-you" kiss. It was only a few milliseconds later that Tamas was leaping away towards the Ruins. His hooves made scrabbling noises against one of the fallen pillars as he tried and found purchase on them.

(hope you drove safely! I'll have none of that there textin n drivin >8I /refrained from singing Spoonful of Sugar)
Bullfinch's picture

Tale giggled at the stag's

Tale giggled at the stag's reaction, taking off after him with leaps and bounds - well, as much as a fawn of ne size could manage. Ne hopped over the fallen pillars and rubble, small and light enough to purvey them much like a cat. Ne surveyed the area with wide eyes, taking in the ruined foundation of whatever had stood here. "Wow. What is this place...?" The fawn had never seen anything like it; the multitude of graves and statues, the bits of forgotten stone littering the grass, it was as if ne had stepped into another world.

"This is beautiful," Tale murmured, eyes darting from one phenomenon to the next. "Creepy, but beautiful." Giving in to curiosity, the fawn stepped over one of the ruined walls, trotting through where the inside of the place surely had been.

[got home safely, sorry for the late reply! @v@ and haha, I never text, so. xD lol, go ahead, I love that song. <3]

Tale's laughter sang in his

Tale's laughter sang in his ears like a ringing bell while he stood on the pillar. He slid off and followed nem, their hooves making gentle sounds in the loose dirt. Having not been introduced to the idea of buildings and houses, the Ruins held a lot of new information for Tamas and he somehow always managed to find new things to look at and wonder about when he'd come to visit. His back legs began to vibrate with excitement when he remembered one particular part of the Ruins that he wanted Tale to see, so he gently brushed past him and smoothly leaped onto the a space between two pillars to stare down into a deep pit with a few loose stairs leading from the bottom up. Or maybe from the top down..
"Ay!" Tamas looked back to where Tale was and made room for nem to stand beside him.

(aw, that's fine x) I don't mind late replies! Texting and driving is wiggidy whack.. *ahem* JUSTA SPOONFUL OF SUGAR MAKES THE MEDICINE GO DOWN! THE MEDICINE! GO DOWN! THAAAA MEDICINE! GO DOWN!)

At the stag's shout, Tale

At the stag's shout, Tale quickly trotted to his side, staring down into the ominous pit. "You wanna go down there?" The fawn murmured incredulously, ears flicking back uneasily. "But it's so... dark!" Tale wrinkled ne nose, shifting nir hooves anxiously before straightening up and puffing out nir chest.

"Alright! Let's go!" Abandoning all fear, the fawn jumped down onto the first step, causing it to wobble ominously. Taking nir's chances, Tale jumped to the next, and then the next, and soon enough ne had reached the bottom of the pit, completely enshrouded in darkness. "Come on!"

Nir voice echoed from the pit. "No turning back now!"

[hehe, good~ <3 wiggidy whack attack! >;3 omg I'm being serenaded~ hehe. c: I do feel a lot better, so the pills definitely work, they just taste like pee smells. uv u;; OH YEAH NOTE: Tale hasn't referred to him as Tamas because ne doesn't know his name. x') everything holy the booty sONG CAME ON WHILE I WAS WRITING THIS CRIES]

A tail wiggle of excitement

A tail wiggle of excitement stood for a "yes" even though he had no idea what Tale was saying. Tamas watched but became visibly upset when the darkness began to swallow nem up, shifting his weight from hoof to hoof and bleating pitifully until even the tip of nir little tail was gone and all he was left was Tale's voice which echoed ominously at the now wary stag. He pranced and reared, then took a mighty leap to the other side of the pit. Without a moment's hesitation he was stumbling into the dark and soon enough had bumped into his little friend.
Tamas gave a cry ("AYL!") and butted his head against nir side in an all over nuzzle-fest.

(he doesn't actually have a name--I just call him Tamas for convenience, so Tale could all him whatever! ..I.. I choked on my cookies SAD BOOTY )
Bullfinch's picture

Tale let out an "oof!" at the

Tale let out an "oof!" at the sudden weight of nir friend, giggling in the darkness as ne returned the nuzzling. "Told you it's not so bad! Kinda cold and super dark, but not completely bad. C'mon, let's go explore!" The little fawn trotted deeper into the cave, slowly enough that nir friend couldn't get lost. Ne made nir footsteps extra forceful, as well, to give the stag a sound to pinpoint.

Suddenly, a pinpoint of light caught Tale's attention, landing on something that seemed to sparkle. Taking a few more steps, Tale let out a shriek when nir front half landed not on stone, but in feet of water. Spluttering, the tiny fawn struggled to get back on dry land, staring in awe at the hidden place. "Woah! It's an underwater lake!"

Tale grinned, shaking nir fur dry. "Look, look! A lake!" Ne shouted to nir companion, sitting down by the lake-shore.

[alright! :3 I'm sure Tale will think of something. x) and oMG I CHOKED ON MY WATER BLUH. listening to the violin version of carry on my wayward son now. *v *]

Nir voice echoing in that

Nir voice echoing in that spooky way set his fur on edge. He crouched down low and glued his side to Tale's as the proceeded through the odd cave; the darkness filled him with an equally dark fear unlike anything he'd felt in his short life and he didn't want to think about how scary it would be stuck alone.
Tamas slowed down so a few easy paced were kept between them as they neared the dazzling light. He gasped in horror when ne fell into the water. He'd just started to go through the motions of a daring rescue (putting his hooves in the water) when ne surfaced and climbed out. Only when it was clear that Tale was safe did he too look out at the water. He stared. And stared. And then stared some more. "Ayyyy-yyyy?" His voice dripped confusion; lakes belonged above ground, not underneath it!

(oh god if ne names him Spot or something like that.. xD LOL that's a much better song to listen to ;u; less chance of either of us choking on things)
Bullfinch's picture

Tale let out a short laugh at

Tale let out a short laugh at nir friend's obvious confusion, snuggling closer to the stag for warmth. "It's to pretty! I've never seen a lake underground before," ne murmured, cocking nir head down at the water and tapping on it with a hoof. Ripples spread from the contact sight and traveled out, the ridges catching light and sparkling like tiny jewels. Suddenly, a small school of pure white fish darted out in front of the fawn's hoof, causing nir to jump in shock. The sudden disturbance sent the school swimming away as fast as they could, leaving Tale to gape at where they'd been.

"There are fish here too? What do they eat?" The fawn shivered, trying to push that thought out of nir mind. After all, there was no such thing as deer-eating fish. "I wonder if there's a way past it?" Tale said, nir voice echoing throughout the cave.

The fawn scooted even closer to nir companion, ears flattening in unease at the ominous sound.

[LOL no now I want to hAH. *v * hm. what should ne nickname him??? aAAAH HELP /melts/ oh and I might fall asleep soon wwah /melts even more]

The sudden arrival and then

The sudden arrival and then departure of the fish made the fur along his spine stand up in alarm. His one eye blinked hard several times as if the vision had been something he'd imagined, but looking over at nem he knew that ne saw them as well and was just as spooked by them. Ne made some unhappy noises and came to be up against his grey furred side. Tamas clumsily brushed his chin against the top of nir head and hummed a noise he hoped would provide nem with comfort. Although Tale's still-echoing voice made him feel afraid, he smiled down at nem and repeated the humming noise.

(nahaha xD I'm sure ne'll come up with something lovely c: I'll pretty much accept anything. even Spot~)
Bullfinch's picture

The humming seemed to travel

The humming seemed to travel through Tale, making the fawn visibly relax at the comforting noise. The fawn hummed back, leaning hard against the stag before puffing up nir chest and rising slowly, pacing back and forth along the lake shore. "There's got to be a a way across it," ne muttered, nose wrinkled in thought. "Aha!" With an idea sparked, Tale started to scan the surface of the lake, tail twitching in excitement.

"There's gotta be something... there!" The single shaft of light suddenly lit up a broken pathway of columns across the water, each more degraded than the last. Some were on their sides in the water, others still standing upright, worn smooth by years in the water. Turning back to nir companion, Tale grinned, eyes sparkling at the challenge. "You wanna try goin' across? I bet there's a way out on the other side!"

[TALE HAS THE BEST IDEAS... I think ne might nickname him something like Guard/Guardian hehe. x) Considering ne's never had one before~ sorry for the late reply bluh bluh. D;]

All tension has been washed

All tension has been washed out of the eldest deer when the two of them hummed for a moment. In his short life, the routine was that he'd meet a new deer creature, hang around it for a while, and then proceed to get bored enough to wander away while it was trying to show him some weird thing or another. But this one, "Ay," he didn't feel like leaving.
Tamas was more than happy sitting there and watching nem talk and move around with that wiggly tail that fawns have. Right when he decided the dark was more soothing than scary and was going about tucking his front legs under his chest to settle in for a nap, a beam of light fell and revealed a precarious trail for them to possibly follow. His one eye went wide and he stood up. He stomped a hoof instinctively and shrank back at the resounding noise, then was suddenly hurrying to stand next to nem as if ne was a much larger fawn that could protect him from any bodily harm.

( this is starting to remind me of The Goonies 8D ooh I like that name.. I like it a lot~ and that's fine! ^3^ )
Bullfinch's picture

Tale blinked at nir

Tale blinked at nir companion, one ear up and the other down in confusion. "Are you alright?" Following his trail of sight, the fawn hurried to reassure him with a nuzzle and a wag of nir tail. "It'll be fine! It's not like the lake's that deep," ne offered with a grin.

"So even if we fall in, we can always swin for it! C'mon, it'll be fun! Do you really wanna try getting back up the steps?" With a waggle of nir eyebrows, ne butted heads with the stag gently, leaping in a circle and charging towards the first platform. With a loud call, the fawn practically flew through the air, landing rather ungracefully on the soggy pillar.

Tale let out an "oof!" on impact, scrabbling at the stone's relatively smooth sides until ne finally managed to get back up, turning nir head carefully back over nir shoulder to wink at nir friend. "See? Told ya! Now c'mon, Guard, don't keep me waitin'!" With a giggle, the fawn leaped ahead, into the darkness.

[GOONIES WOO. and yay, hehe~ I gotta go to bed, so I shall reply on the morrow! <3]

Tamas looked over at the

Tamas looked over at the sound of nir voice and made a quiet noise before looking back at the water and trembling quietly. Fear buzzed around in his head and made it hard to hear what ne was saying (he barely even felt the headbutt) and before he knew it, ne was on top of one of the columns!
Rocks and dirt shot in every direction as he scrambled to his feet and sailed through the air towards the pillar ne had just been on. Unfortunately, he misjudged the distance and got the wind knocked out of him when his chest slammed into the pillar. Stars winked in front of his eyes and for a moment he was totally unable to move or think, but soon enough he pulled his lower-half out of the water and onto the pillar. Ne was nowhere to be seen.

(hope you sleep well! don't dream about Slenderman 8I )
Bullfinch's picture

Tale jumped at the crash,

Tale jumped at the crash, turning slowly and carefully to squint at Guard from the darkness. "You alright?" Ne called out, ears twitching wildly to catch any sound not made by nir own voice. "I'm just ahead of you! I can see the other side! Just follow my lead," Tale reassured, before turning and hopping to the next pillar.

Ne landed messily, skidding out and just barely managing to catch nemself before ne dropped into the water. The fawn let out a shaky sigh in relief, getting up and turning nir head back to watch for nir companion. "Come on! Just a few more to go!" With that bleat of encouragement, Tale steadied nemself before taking off for the second to last pillar - and completely missed it, landing to the right of the downed ebony structure.

Ne spluttered, shrieking as the first wave of icy cold water enveloped nir body. Struggling to keep nemself afloat, ne kicked blindly towards the other side of the lake, trying desperately to feel out the embankment.

[poor babies ;v; ehehe, luckily I didn't dream about Slendy, but I did wake up with horrible pain in my left arm. l'D wweh]

He'd heard nir voice bouncing

He'd heard nir voice bouncing off the walls from every direction while still struggling to get out of the chilly water. At this point it was only a blinding, intense feeling of concern for the little fawn that was keeping him from running out of the darkness and away from nem. It was that concern that blasted away all over thought and spurred him on to take a leap of faith when his ear picked up the sound of a heavy splash and cry not too far away. Guard's hooves slapped against the wet pillar and all seemed well until the world tipped uneasily and he fell headfirst into the water.
The glacial water bit at his flesh and tried to make his muscles stop working in a way that frightened a distant and barely aware part of his brain. Without knowing fully what he was doing, he began churning his legs and moving forward, head tilted towards the unseen ceiling to avoid inhaling the water. An abrupt splash sent piercing cold water droplets down his face. He turned and saw a flash of purple.
"Ay--!" The shout was cut short when a waves pushed the two together and some part of Tale's body smacked against his face. Guard's face stung from the impact, but it gave him an idea.
It was hard to relocate nir body among all the waves that they were collaboratively forming, but eventually the familiar prickle of wet fawn fur met his face.

(water rescue! >8U MAYBE SLENDY GRABBED YOUR ARM IN YOUR SLEEP)
Bullfinch's picture

Tale flailed as ne suddenly

Tale flailed as ne suddenly slammed into a warm mass of fur, coughing up lungfuls of water as ne breached the surface of the water. Ne desperately hooked a leg with one of the stag's, using nir other three limbs to make a break for the shore. Harshly panting, the fawn finally hit the opposite bank, scrabbling up onto the cold, damp rock. Ne took a few moments to breathe, hacking up saltwater, before turning back desperately, blinking burning liquid out of nir cloudy eyes. "Guard!"

The fawn darted back to the bank, moving around to the back of the stag and pushing the front half of his body out of the water. "Are you alright?! Are you hurt?" Nir voice was frantic, breaching on bleating, and nir frail limbs shook, already beginning to feel bruises forming from crashing against the columns and the lake's bottom. "You could've gotten killed!"

Tale shrieked, running in circles around the stag, squinting viciously to try and scope out any injuries.

[WATER RESCUEEEEEE~ I hope not!! ;v; It still hurts tho wwah. D; /melts]

Everything around him was a

Everything around him was a dizzying and buzzing blur of pinpoints of light and too loud of sounds. Warmth spread across his face and stuffed itself into his intact ear. He was being pushed by strange waves onto a hard bank.. no, it was Tale pushing him. The warm sensation dissipated from his face in a matter of seconds while their surroundings began to come into clearer detail. His body was a wet rag when ne pushed and prodded the larger deer. One particular push inspired a wad of gross tasting liquid to jump to his lips and he sat up long enough to retch away from himself.
He fell back onto his side and lay there puffing and groaning quietly--crossing to the other side would have felt like an accomplishment if he didn't feel so tired. Tale's loud voice caused him to startle badly and for a second he was standing up to bolt away, scuffing both front knees in the process, but he then he was flopped onto his side a little farther from the unkind waters.

(these two need some water wings, that's for sure >8I ..that would be so cute D:

Tale immediately quieted at

Tale immediately quieted at Guard's obvious distress, instead shuffling closer and nuzzling the stag's unscarred cheek. With a sigh, ne laid down next to the deer, snuggling close in an effort to warm the larger animal up. "So, in retrospect, this was kind of a bad idea," the fawn murmured, voice gravelly from coughing. Still, ne giggled a bit, even if it sounded a bit tired. "Are you alright?" Ne whispered, trying not to scare the stag again.

[omg no now I need to draw them with water wings l'D bABIES...]

The waves they'd created died

The waves they'd created died into whispers after being bludgeoned against the pillars and rocky shore where the two lay. What little light there was reflected off the water and shone ever changing spiderwebs of light onto their surroundings. Having his little companion so close to him reassured his trembling heart until his breathing began to slow enough that it was possible to admire the light play that danced all around them.
His only reply to all of nirs questions was a small gasp of delight. A particular pattern of light bouncing around Tale's side caught his attention and he tried to pin it down by bumping his face againstit, but when he looked, the light was gone and replaced by another pattern.

(Tale would totally have those cool-guy sunglasses on and be all "Guard pls, I got dis" )

Tale slowly started relaxing

Tale slowly started relaxing next to nir guardian, smiling at the stag's return to calm. At the nuzzle, ne hummed a giggle, blinking nir eyes back open and looking over at the other deer curiously. "I wonder what this place used to be," ne wondered, turning nir head a bit to stare out at the now calm water. "It's so similar to the ruins, but there aren't any carvings. It's like everything's been worn... away..."

Ears flicking up in shock, the fawn gasped, grinning. "That's it! This place must be connected to the ruins, and it must've gotten flooded! Probably! Maybe!" Blinking, the fawn settled back down sheepishly, nuzzling nir companion. "Possibly?"

[PFFFT NO YOU MADE ME DRAW IT BUT IT'S NOT DONE I'LL POST IT TOMORROW AAAAAA]

His ruined ear tried its best

His ruined ear tried its best to imitate the actions of its twin when it cupped toward nir voice as he turned to focus on the face that shone in a ghostly sort of way in the dark. Following nir gaze, he too stared out at the pillars and water that was now sighing at them. An eye blinked, then hung lower and lower. Soon he was dozing off, soothed by the warm body against him and the soft noises of Tale's voice.
The sudden gasp and movement startled him a little at first, but the calm that seeped back into nir words soothed his frantically beating heart.
Possibly? The word was a hollow diamond to his ears, but the nuzzle was filled with rich meanings that made his head feel dizzy and strange. Guard let out a satisfied puff of air from his nasal cavity and beamed at the dear little fawn in a way that could only be described as lovingly. His lips bumped against a warm cheek before he snuggled himself protectively around the fawn.

Tale froze for a moment at

Tale froze for a moment at the sudden all-encompassing warmth, before relaxing completely, practically purring from the attention. The little fawn finally felt safe enough to sleep - and slip into a doze ne did, thankfully sniffling in nir sleep rather than snoring. And this was how ne found nemself dreaming. Ne always found dreams easy to tell apart from reality - mainly because all of nir dreams were absolutely smothered in fog. This dream was the same ne'd had for weeks now, and it was a bit like a nightmare.

Okay.

A lot like a nightmare.

Fog surrounded nir at every turn, concealing downed trees and upturned roots until the last moment, the last step. Tale stumbled and tripped every other minute, it seemed, always constantly running. Ne couldn't figure out if ne was running from something or after something, as it almost seemed like... both. Horrible howls and chanting followed nir from behind, while the distant, familiar sound of pounding hooves called nir on. It was quite a vicious cycle, and it always ended the same way: ne would trip over a jutting piece of stone, tumble down a hill and crash into a lake - and wake up.

And wake up ne did, with a jolt, burying nir face in Guard's side with chattering teeth and eyes clenched shut.

Slumber quickly engulfed both

Slumber quickly engulfed both of the young deer snuggled together on the barren ground. Although they were received into the same warm bliss, the visions set before them were different: while Tale's was one of an undefined and frantic fear, Tamas was in the Forest eating the tastiest grass he'd ever had. He tore up mouthful after mouthful of it until he felt his stomach moving and looking back at himself, he saw that it was stretched several times too wide. He panicked and fell onto his side with a cry, then cried louder when he felt and saw something moving on the inside of his stomach.
He was alarmed to find that the sensation of movement against his stomach was still prevalent in the "awake" world, but it turned out to just be Tale's legs twitching in nir sleep. Suddenly ne awoke and smothered nir face into his fur. Maybe ne had a dream of being inside his tummy.. he sure hoped that wasn't the case. "Ay.." He murmured quietly and nudged at the shivering form.

Tale started from the nudge,

Tale started from the nudge, the movement enough to break nir out of the last vestiges of nir nightmare. Sighing in relief, the fawn nuzzled nir guard back, before shaking nir head clear of the dream's fog. "We should probably find a way out," ne suggested with a small smile, milky eyes blinking sleepily in the darkness. "Although... I'm not sure how easy that's going to be," the fawn admitted uneasily. The cave around them was as pitch black as the night, and it looked just as uninviting.

The only sounds ne could hear was there own breathing, echoed back at them. Shivering, Tale frowned, squinting out at the black.

A small weight was lifted

A small weight was lifted from his lungs when ne fully awoke and began acting like nir regular self. His black hair was still wet and had begun to stink a little in that way that unclean hair begins to smell when it becomes very damp and heavy. The smell was lost to him, but the heaviness of the clump of wet hair bothered him some. An identical shiver passed through his body as a breath of cold air licked at his already cold body. Wait--
He stood up quickly as if understanding Tale's vocal concerns. For some time he stood as quietly as one of the pillars across form them, then his head jerked away from the expanse of water, towards the stifling blackness. Air was coming from that direction. He reared playfully and wiggled his tail, landing with his chest on the ground and rump in the air. One sharp bleat loosened itself from his mouth and echoed down what sounded like a passageway.
