One body, many souls | Sionnach

bigcrow's picture

We are many inside one...
Do you hear us?

Trouble followed Sionnach into the world. His mother was lost too early, whether to predators or abandonment he'll never know. Wandering alone and barely escaping death, he found himself at the mercy of humans, beings he had always been warned about. Luckily they were indeed merciful and cared for him, but they too turned him off to the woods after time. Finding the endless forest was little short of a miracle... a place with no predators or people, just deer... maybe even his mother... and his hope kept alive in him that he'd find her, or at least a guiding figure in this odd, but wonderful place. His hope wore on him, until slowly it faded.
And faded.
And died.

Among other circumstances in his path so far in the world, he wonders to himselves if they are there because of this history, or if he was simply born this way.

Even as a fawn, Sionnach was aware that somehow, other deer were inside him- he couldn't make sense of it then, and was often terrified of being haunted by numerous strange, sometimes malevolent ghosts... but he slowly grew to understand as he grew himself. He refers to these other beings as spirits, for they inhabit his body together rather than having physical forms of their own. They are parts of him, and wholly different entities at the same time. Occasionally he spies a deer, in the corner of his eye... but as he gets closer realizes there is no deer there at all. He often skids to a halt when he runs, hearing the pounding of many more hooves than his own, glancing around to find no one there. It is difficult for him to co-exist with his spirits and their many minds and thoughts and confusing projections only he can sense that disappear as he becomes aware of them... but he honors his selves and the other spirits that guide him, and he carries candles in his antlers for each one.

He wears a mask to hide his features and shadow his eyes, to not scare others when they change as a spirit comes forward. It is colorful and full of beauty
(happiness, childishness, little fawns playing, little little fawn)
but with a frowning, yelling mouth
(confusion, jealousy, rage, grey hateful old stag, suspicious arrogant)
leaving his own mouth and lower face visible, yet another symbol of his many selves. They are as old as the deer they inhabit, but still new to him. Some are aware of each other; others stand alone. He is still learning about these entities, guides, masters and friends, and hopes that as he walks this road with his selves, that there will be a few to come along with him to understand and tolerate this strange stag.

There are a few spirits who are particularly common, and forest residents may have already met them many times without knowing. Some have names, others are just described. They will name themselves when the time comes. They are...

Sionnach

Core personality. He is young and shy, but playful. He holds most of the memories of his childhood, though fragments are missing. He is awkward and still new to the ways of the forest, which he feels he wasn't born in, but learning. Some deer intimidate him, friendly or not, and he has a habit of walking or running around, out of their line of sight, debating whether to actually come forward and introduce himself. He may even do this with old friends in his unease, coming close, stopping, then running off again. It is best to approach him first, as he may not come to you. He has a sweet disposition and is friendly unless provoked otherwise, he is simply very introverted.

Bairn

A small fawn, possibly a baby, 'bairn' meaning baby in the language of the humans who saved Sionnach as a young one. He remembers the earliest memories. He holds the loneliness and the fear, and the desire for guidance and acceptance from elder deer. This spirit acts as a young, abandoned fawn would- sometimes playful, always with a hopeful look, but sad, often afraid, and seeking shelter and love from others, having none himself. He will follow older deer around, hoping to befriend them and stay by their side, and frequently nuzzle or stand/sit extremely close. This spirit often forgets the manners of the forest and may run up to you without bowing, or rear and make sparring movements in play without signaling its just play, and is known to ignore personal space.

The Buck

The buck is in the transition from childhood to adulthood. He has few actual memories, and thus is not affected by the events in Sionnach's life. He has the most individual personality. The buck is extremely energetic and playful. He is almost always running, and will often signal he wants others to join him by running circles around them rather than stopping. He has the manners Bairn does not and will bow and go through the motions, but only as long as necessary before the games begin again. He gets along best with fawns, and loves to rough-house and play-fight. He is very dramatic and theatrical, but in good spirits, to enhance play. Sometimes his joking and mocking of other deer to get them to play with him is taken the wrong way, but he finds ways to apologize if you let him know. He exudes charm and happiness.

Howl

Howl doesn't believe it is a deer at all. It doesn't know what it is. Howl is a trickster who mimics everything. It seems to be almost out of its control. When Howl is out, it will mimic everything a deer near it does. It will run away if a deer runs away, stop when it stops, and make its exact movements. It laughs constantly while it cries at the same time. It walks and runs at once, swivelling and zig-zagging as it goes, and runs into the water frequently, choosing to lose its pelt and antlers and sit in the water rather than stay on the land. Howl likes to confuse others and change its appearance often, and likes to roar. It appears to be insane.

The Old Stag

The old stag is a dark spirit. He harbors memories of abandonment, and upon arrival in the forest, the feelings of jealousy seeing families together, the confusion of being run away from and ignored by many he tried to befriend as a fawn... anger for what he didn't have that others did, for being misunderstood, for being chased away and even fought when he once thought the world was a good, accepting place. He is rageful at his fate and his short luck while others have everything he desperately wanted, and at his exclusion, imagined or not, among the forests' residents. He is exaggerative and arrogant, and many of the slights against him may only be perceived, but he feels the pain of it as if they were real and intentional. He only walks, and sits frequently. He is quick to anger, and may lower his antlers in warning at a simple friendly gesture. He will fight deer he percieves as a threat to him. He will not bow first. He is suspicious of the intentions of deer around him, and may ignore you or run you off until he decides you are trustworthy. He is tolerant of fawns and will never harm them, but he will not play or be friendly either. If a fawn is lost or alone, he may stand near them or try to direct them to a group of deer. They are his only soft spot.

Sionnach, Bairn and the buck are aware of each other and can communicate and interact. If you have met any of them, they will all remember you. Howl and the old stag stand alone, and are not aware of the presence of any others, including each other. If you meet either of them, no other spirit will remember you.

Sionnach's 'spot' is the Great Oak, where he will always go to rest or sit in peace. The droning of the tree calms and quiets the many chattering souls in him. Depending on who is out though, he may be in many places. He welcomes deer to sit with him... just be mindful of who may already be there.

Sorry about the lack of artsyness and whatnot. I'm bloody awful at css, but figured I'd do what I could. This can also serve as an interactive blog, in the event anyone would like to rp with Sionnach or request that a certain spirit come out in the forest.

This is so...so...cool. It's beautifully written and incredibly well-thought out. And I love the simplicity of it; no CSS needed. Smiling I especially like how you described the significance of his mask and candles.

I really like the many layers of this deer, these many deer in one. My deer Anjali has something slightly similar in his "Red Spirit" side, but I haven't really worked at developing that aspect of him yet, so it doesn't show through. This inspires me to work on it!

Really, really lovely bio.

I agree with Anjali,

I agree with Anjali, wonderful bio and very interesting and well thought-out descriptions of Sionnach and the spirits. Smiling It slightly reminds me of Multiple Personality Disorder which I've heard a bit about.

Btw the pea-pelt minideer in one of your screenies is Ninja ^^

i love this concept.

i love this concept.

Thanks everyone. I wanted to

Thanks everyone. I wanted to create something unique... a deer that does kind of have DID, as Unplugged brought up. That or he may be possessed by something(s)... its not entirely certain why he is the way he is.

I hope there isn't someone else on here who has a similar character/story- if there is, sorry!
bigcrow's picture

A question for Unplugged,

A question for Unplugged, since you did Sionnach's fawn art and I'm still enthralled with it... would you mind doing something for his adult self? You can say no, I'm just curious. You're a fantastic artist and you could probably do something gorgeous for him.

*This also goes for any interested artist. I'd love to see what any of you can do! There's a ridiculous amount of talent on this site.

Very excited to see this~ I

Very excited to see this~ I love everything you've done with his character. I keep feeling like I've seen Sionnach without realizing it XD

I'd love to do some art of Sionnach at some point in the future, if I may~ Does his design deviate from his forest appearance at all?
Edit: ...FF LOL. I didn't even see your message up there XD SO YES. I'd like to~

Oh I've played with him~ The peacock pelted mini in some pictures is my Ninja c:

Shaku- you have! Vasska(I

Shaku- you have! Vasska(I believe its Vasska?), Ravus and I have played a few times. Remember?

And I would absolutely love if you'd do something for Sionnach! It'd be neat to have art for each of his spirits, and see how people interpret them physically... that might be an idea for later... *plots* But yesyesyes, by all means! I'd be thrilled.

HellsBells/Zanary- I was wondering who he was! We had fun with him awhile back. We've come under the mini-love spell recently like so many deer xD Been hoping to find you again!

Hopefully yeah~ Though for a while Ninja is not going to be in forest very often, 'cause I'm playing with my new character but maybe some day they'll play again :'D
shaku's picture

Haha, that's definitely

Haha, that's definitely possible! SO FAMILIAR. I wish I could remember something specific XD
The little one between Ravus and Sionnach is Rainflower, Dinah Moon's adorable daughter. Vasska would probably be sitting on top of one of them instead of sitting sweetly between ;D

Unplugged's picture

I see you already found

I see you already found somebody but I could try give it a shot and conjure up something in a similar style if you want to. Smiling Would he have his mask on a human face or a deer face?
To find a way how to portray the different souls, that could get interesting...

((by the way, I find the idea of DID waaay more interesting than the "possessed" one, it's been generally overdone everywhere... /opinionopinion But maybe you could still manage to make something new out of an old idea.))
Anjali's picture

Bigcrow, just out curiosity,

Bigcrow, just out curiosity, how do you pronounce "Sionnach"? I want to say it like Sigh-a-nock, but have no idea if that's right. xD
Unplugged's picture

I always pronounce it

I always pronounce it See-oh-nach, but I speak german sooo...
bigcrow's picture

Unplugged: I'd still love to

Unplugged: I'd still love to have another piece by you Laughing out loud So if you want to, go ahead! That would be epic. Putting his personalities into it is the challenge... and not necessary because of the oddness/difficulty. Anything is amazing! And mask on human face, for the other question. I also agree that DID is something different... hard to characterize, but rewarding if done well, like any characterization, especially with mental disorders.

Anjali- the tradish way to say it is "shah-nock" but the variations are pretty cool! I like them too. In Scots-gaelic 'sionnach' means fox, and he was originally supposed to have a red pelt and other features/characteristics to justify the name, but that changed after awhile as you can see xD Some of his personalities still have some fox-like traits.

Shaku- OOOP. See how bad I am

Shaku- OOOP. See how bad I am at recognizing people? xD Okay so nvm, but I'm sure we've met a few times!

Sionnach will be in the forest for a bit, if anyone would like to meet or play with him. We also need help getting our set back, so if anyone can help, please do!! O_O
SpiritOfWandering's picture

Wow. Very Well thought out

Wow. Very Well thought out bios. So many faces, so many features. Very rich writing. This kind of reading makes me want to sit down and do my bit finally.

What happened to the set? What set? Wait it;s probably written somewhere, I'll read the posts. I'll keeo an eye out for your deer though I am unable to form coherent sentences out of the actions in the forest yet so I might not understand if I can be of use or not.

Als, I have never been here long enough to use those sets but could I ask why are multi sets no longer allowed? Or spell data?
bigcrow's picture

Thank you!! I lost my

Thank you!! Laughing out loud

I lost my deer's set- pelt, mask, etc- last month; I got it back though ^__^ And lost it and got it back and lost it... I swear something goes wrong every other day or so, LOL! But for right now everything's in place, hehehe. Keep an eye out anyway, it'd be nice to meet you!

And I don't know why multi sets aren't allowed anymore... I guess its just a thing with the newest version. Maybe they'll bring it back later! *hopes* It'd be fun- and useful for my character, not to mention others'- to have multiple sets. You can still 'layer' pelts/masks/antlers on your deer in-game- have multiple pelts or whatnot cast on you and wear them/sneeze them off at will... so technically thats like having multiple sets, just temporary. Just don't sign out if you still have other sets on over your chosen one xD That's how I lost mine a billion times, hehe.

Oh so this is the sweetie

Oh so this is the sweetie Bloo got to dance. Sorry if she was bothering you. Laughing out loud
I have to agree with everyone; this is one very cool personality design. ♥
bigcrow's picture

AACK I am trying so hard to

AACK I am trying so hard to remember you. Was this today or yesterday? I should remember you with that mask(because it is epiccc) but I saw a few deer lately with that mask so I think its all blending together xD *is braindead* Sorry! We hope to see you again though. We like meeting new folks ^_____^
gurgelin's picture

Hahaha no actually she was

Hahaha no actually she was wearing some silly girly mask at the valentines ball (which was sunday), probably something with butterflies hahaaa <3 And orca pelt and the small stubby/curvy black antlers (forgot their name).
Your stag was sitting by a tree and Bloo came up to you and asked your stag to dance, which he did eventually, kind of hesitantly, lol xD Then a fawn came and then you left! And that's it basically. xD
You just caught my interest cause your set is so pretty and so is your picto, and then your character was kind of epic too. :O'''
Also your icon attracts me @_@ I am going to stalk you now
Be afraid
bigcrow's picture

Oohhhh, now I remember. The

Oohhhh, now I remember. The only reason I 'hesitated' was because I can't get the action keys to work on my laptop xD I'll click something 20 times before it actually happens, uggh. I have no idea why I left though... I has the mem'ry problems.

But yay! Its awesome that we finally got to meetcha- I've seen you here but never in the game, I think. Be prepared, Sionnach will stalk you back in-game xD

*looks around suspiciously for Bloo stalker >.>*
