Hello, and welcome to another tutorial! This time we're looking at how to create an icon.

Please read on to learn how to create an icon that is unique to your personality.



An icon is an image that you use to identify yourself on the community site. It can be something funny, something personal, or just something random you enjoy. Your icon can be found on your account page underneath your pictogram like so:



Note: If you are doing this for the first time, you will have no image there! Don't worry! This just means that you haven't set an icon yet, and not that your account isn't working.

Now that you know where to look, you can begin creating your icon.




Before you can have your icon on this site, first it must meet certain requirements, and for this you need to edit your picture.

A signature picture must follow these constraints:



Step One



For my new icon, I've chosen this photo that I took and edited it to feature my pictogram. I cropped the photo down to a square, since that is the standard shape that I prefer for my icons.

Once you've chosen the picture you want to use, you can proceed.


Step Two



In this step, I drag the photo down to a more appropriate size. Note the arrows indicating the size it was, and the size it is now.

This is a step that you may have to repeat several times, until you have an image that fits within the 100 X 100 pixel constraints.


Step Three



Just to check that my image was the correct size, I checked the image's stats using the drop down menu. This is different for all programs, but most have an option that let you look at your image's information, and/or you can use a setting to resize your image to see what size it is now.

Note how my image is 100 X 98 pixels in size, which is within the size constraints.

Once you have your image down to your desired size, you can set it as your icon!





Step One



On the main Community page, click on the link to the left that says My Account. This will take you to your main account page.


Step Two



On your account page, you want to click the link beneath your username that says Edit.


Step Three



Welcome to the edit page! This is where you control a lot of the more 'technical' aspects of your account, such as your password, time zone, etc.

Once you're here, you'll see a box titled Picture where you control what your icon is.

In this box, you want to click on the button that says Choose File. This will open up a new little window.


Step Four



In this window, you want to use the drop down menu to explore your computer and find the file you want to upload as your icon. Once you've found your file, select it and press Choose.


Step Five



Notice how the name of your image is now beside Choose File! This indicates that the upload was successful.

If you already have an image, and you're just replacing it, you just have to checkmark the box beside Delete picture. This will remove your current picture.


Step Six



Once you've uploaded your new picture, you can scroll down the page and click [=#0000FF]Save[/.


Step Seven



Congratulations! You've now created and uploaded your very own icon!
