[A Game] Lucid Dreaming [Daylight]

Alecsander's picture
"A lucid dream is a dream in which the sleeper is aware that she or he is dreaming."

" When the dreamer is lucid, she or he can actively participate in and often manipulate the imaginary experiences in the dream environment."

"Lucid dreams can seem extremely real and vivid depending on a person's level of self-awareness during the lucid dream."

Welcome To Lucid Dreaming

Lucid Dreaming is a "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" game.
Much like The Endless Forest: It has no goal.

If you choose to participate, then you are Lucid Dreaming.
Every night you choose to Lucid Dream you will wake up in a dream.
The setting may be familiar, or completely foreign.

You know that you are dreaming.
Throughout your journey you will be presented with certain scenarios.
I am your guide to these scenarios and will inform you of the consequences of your choices and actions.

Guidelines of Lucid Dreaming:

-At Any time you may wake up. You know how to do this. It might be pinching yourself, or realizing it is a dream, or jumping from something tall. It is personal.

-If you willingly wake up you will have the choice to continue from a specific point from a previous night of your choosing.

-You enter the dream world with a certain level of stress from One to Twenty.
What number you enter with is based on your actual level of stress when you join.
Be honest.
Lying to give yourself more courage will not improve the game for you.

With each reaction to a scenario or action taken you will evaluate how you are feeling.
If you are nervous, scared, or stressed out enough to reach 20, you must leave the dream.

If you are forced out by stress, you will not remember anything from the dream that night.

You may be forced out by "dying" in the dream.

-You may only enter the dream once per night.

-You may be presented with very personal, unnerving, scary, or disturbing settings or situations.

-Some times you will be prompted to provide information.

For example: "This room contains the animal you fear the most. What is it?"
"A pet you loved dearly that passed away is in front of you-describe them"
"A deer has come to join your side, who is it?"

You can choose to answer, or leave the dream.

-Each night will vary in it's length.

An approximate time of each Night will be given when the game is posted.
You have until that time to enter the dream and voluntarily wake up before the night ends.
If you do not voluntarily wake up in the time period you will not retain any information from that night.
You may still participate the next night.

-Everyone speaks the same language in dreams

Everyone in a dream, regardless of what language they are speaking, are speaking a language that you under stand. They may clearly be a foreign individual speaking a foreign tongue, but you will know what they are saying.

-You can manipulate the dream.
You may be as grand or as minute as you wish to be. If you need something you can get it. This is a dream.

however...
-You are yourself.

You only have the skills, abilities, and information that you do at the exact moment you enter the dream that night.
Entering the dream world will not magically give you the ability to play the violin.
You might be able to do something absurd as flying, but you cannot suddenly become a good basketball player.
You are limited in this regard.

-You have two hands.
You can pick up items you might find in the dream. You can retain these items for that night, but have no where to store them. You may carry two small items, or one large item. These items may or may not come in handy.

-You are alone.
You may be in the same setting as another player, but you are alone. You cannot see or communicate with them at this point in time.

Depending on the actions of the players a setting where mutual dreaming may become available. For now: Focus on surviving on your own.

-Your Guide can be slow at times
Depending on what I am doing in real life OR the amount of participants it might take some time to get to your situation or reactions.

Be patient.

-Each night you start in the same default setting unless you have requested one.
You may then explore from the default setting. It is just the 'base point' for all new dreamers.

- At times you may be required to fulfill an obligation or perform a task before you may move on.

Guidelines of The Mansion:

-When you enter the mansion you will be assigned to a team.

Your team will be your savior if you happen to die in the mansion.

-Your mission is to explore the mansion
How you do this is up to you. You may go off on your own or stick close to your team-mates.

-If you die you will become a poltergeist
You cannot manifest your old form or speak.
You must rely on your ability to levitate and manipulate objects to lead your team mates to retrieve your body.

When your body is placed in the main hall you will be revived.

-The mansion is only available until between 10:30 pm EST and 11:00 pm EST unless otherwise noted.

If so, pick a unique colour (make sure to post the hex colour!).

Then Answer the following question in that colour:

Are You Dreaming?
[s]Are You Ready to enter the nightmare?

Returning players, please also answer the following question:

How Are you Feeling? (1-20) [/s]

Tera:
You must be dreaming unless you woke up in the forest.
You are sitting by the crying idol and it is horrendously foggy.
You can hear the howling in the distance.
You cannot see very far.
How are you feeling?
Do you perhaps want to take anything here with you?
_______________________________________________________________________________
Whyss-

No, it appears not to be.
Unless you habitually sleep on the stairs.

You are in a spiral stairwell.
It is only wide enough for you to reach your arms out in each direction.
The stairs are very long and strangely flat.
The walls are dirty brown stone.
The stairs are of similar material.
There is low lighting, but no light source.
How are you feeling?
Where do you wish to go?
___________________________________________________________________________________

The clocks seems to have been resting on the top a thin vertical rectangle that comes up to your chest.

As your eyes address to the dark you can make out the basic shape.
It appears to be fully smooth, but you cannot tell.
You can peer around the object.

Determined to figure out what

Determined to figure out what the rectangle is made out of, I reach out and scratch at it with my nail, to see if it is smooth or textured.

I totally expect to regret this decision.

"HOLYSHI-" Jeezumcrobies

"HOLYSHI-"

Jeezumcrobies dirty? small spaces? heights? this is like straight out of one of those Saw movies holyshhhhh... WHERE'S THE FREAKING LIGHT. I WANT REAL LIGHT PLEASE.

Holycrap down would be the logical conclusion, but hell this could be the freaking stairway to hell for all I know.

...down.

"Man it's so damp with all

"Man it's so damp with all this fog." Looking around I see the familiar setting of the crying idol. "Heh, never thought I'd see that save from behind a screen..." I'm talking to myself to avoid feeling worried about the wolves, I've had bad experiences with werewolf dreams before. "Hm, these poppies are pretty, I think I'll take one of those with me." I take a single poppy and tuck it into my shirt pocket.

Alecsander's picture

You feel the surface get caught under your nail.
Ouch.
It appears to be made out of wood.
A large wooden rectangle.
How curious.
Do you recognize this object?
How are you feeling (1-20?)

___________________________________________________________________________________

You believe you are dreaming.
Perform a Reality check to affirm this.
Careful now, don't startle yourself into waking up.

__________________________________________________________________________________

You head down.
It is not especially lighter.
This section seems exactly the same as the previous one.
You can see light further below.
Down or up?

How are you feeling (1-20?)

__________________________________________________________________________________
The flower stays safely tucked away in your pocket.
You are not sure what day it is in the forest.
You seem to be completely alone other than the sounds of the forest.
Are those just sounds effects, or do they really exist?

You can faintly see a bridge in the distance.
You are aware where the other landmarks are...if you really are in the forest.

How are you feeling? (1-20?)
Where do you wish to go?
Whyss's picture

"-moan-"

Ffff, I'd have to say 15 right now. This is messed up. I was expecting a dream, not a nightmare. There better not be any murderers down there.

On the upside, bad things can't hide in the light.

I keep going down.

(I went a little higher cause it's almost midnight here and I need to go to bed sometime around then xD also sorry if the edit came late D:)
Tally's picture

I look into the nearest

I look into the nearest mirror and lightly jolted as I saw back at me the reflection of my mother, a face that has haunted me for ages. But I am not her. I am dreaming.

I take a moment to look

I take a moment to look around at the deep fog but I don't feel confident enough to set off into it.
Maybe I'll just follow the river for a bit, if this is the Endless Forest, the last thing I want to do is end up wandering around lost.
I'm still unnerved by those wolf howls (14). I set off following the river down towards where I expect the pond to be.
Bylah's picture

At this point, I'm a little

At this point, I'm a little peeved. On a scale of one to twenty, I'd say I'm hovering at a charming nine, which, while my typical auspicious number, is not a good number to be today.

A rectangle, huh. I try to reach past it. Maybe there's a wall nearby.

Rainflower's picture

Curious, I reach over to the

Curious, I reach over to the door and feel for a feel for a knob.

Nope it was fine. Smiling You can leave at any time and pick back up later, OR just let night run out and start over with a new setting if you're not liking this one.

Also, It will help if every time your number waivers (drops lower or higher) you mention. Think of it as constant self-evaluation. Assume it's always asked after you react differently.
____________________________________________________________________________________
You have instated the universal dream rule that 'no bad things can hide in the light'.
No bad things will hide in the light from now on.

The light source is a window.
It appears to be day out.
Opposite the door is a window.

The stairs continue downward.
There is a faint breeze.

___________________________________________
The mirror is one of many.
As you tear your eyes away you notice that there are many mirrors.
A room full of mirrors.
There are many paths back through the mirrors.
As your gaze lingers your own and different reflections stare back at you.
They appear to move with you.
For now.

_________________________________________
You follow the river.
Instead of leading to the pond there is a sandy cove.
How strange...a beach here?
You can see a structure in the distance that resembles an oil rig.
You can see an island.
You can see a path down the beach with a low gate.

You do not know how deep the water is.

There is a wall.
In fact, you run into it almost immediately.
There is also one to your immediate left.

Were those there earlier..?
How troublesome.

No tricks here.
The knob is easily located and there is no visible lock.
You're home free it seems.

With a wall in front of me and on either side of me, I logically look behind me. Because if there's a wall behind me, that means I'm not going to get far in this dream.

(Guh too late for me, gonna call it quits for now! I'll continue this later, if you don't mind Alec C:)

"Well this is unexpected!" Curious I reach down and run my fingers through the sand. It's pleasant, until my finger snags on something and I feel a sharp little prick. With a twitch I wake up.
Whyss's picture

"Ouch." My right ankle - the

"Ouch."

My right ankle - the one I busted three years ago and has never healed fully - is killing me. Stupid stairs. The light from outside is like air to a drowning man - I stumble down the last few towards it, but hesitate.

I'm kind of curious now about what's down at the bottom of the staircase. But, I tell myself, if there's an axe murderer wearing a bloody butcher apron and a hockey mask down there there's no way I can run back up the stairs on this stupid ankle.

...Wait.

This is a dream, right?

Pfff, I'll wake up before I actually -die- bad ankle or no.

... right?

...HELL WITH THAT.

I go out the door.

14.

Tally's picture

I reel in confusion and take

I reel in confusion and take a few steps backward. There doesn't seem to be a wall me but maybe I wasn't even walking straight. A fear that always comes to me from the act of being stared at starts to make me panic and I try to close my eyes.
Alecsander's picture

The door seems to believe it

The door seems to believe it is a window.
You eagerly push forward and grab hold of the frame to stop yourself as the door swings outwards.
There is no ground beyond the frame of the door.
The door has opened the wall into the outside.

You can see out in the distance.
You can see straight down.

There is a line of trees below you with birds.
Chimes are being happily blown by the wind directly in front of you.
It is a long way down.

____________________________________________________________________

The path backwards is clear as it was before.
The rectangle shape still stands.
You seem to be missing something..but what?

____________________________________________________
Tera has woken up.
She will recall this dream when she sleeps again.

__________________________________________________
It is currently 11:57 EST
The door leads to a brightly lit up room.
It appears to be a shop of some sort with spinning brightly coloured tops on all of the shelves.
They are wizzing out of control and occasionally one will shoot across the room in a shower of sparks.
What is this doing here?

_________________________
The reflections mirror your movements perfectly.
This seems to be very disorienting.
What will you do?
Should you wake up?

___________________________________________
It seems to be nearing daylight.
You have only a short precious time before your alarm forces you awake.
Do you wake up and scribble a dream journal?
Or let this dream fade away..?
You should decide quickly.

You have five minutes once it hits midnight and you wake up to decide what, if anything, you wish to save.
Whyss's picture

"Whoa-! Sweet!" Well. THIS

"Whoa-! Sweet!"

Well. THIS was unexpected.

I poke around for a few minutes, until I become so engrossed in a particular contraption that I don't notice a bright whizzing top come shooting towards me out of nowhere.

I shoot up out of bed, blankets going everywhere. I'm sweating. My leg hurts. I glance out of the window, where I can see dark grey clouds.

"Damn weather fronts."

My dream comes back to me in pieces over the day, and I scribble a journal during lunch.

D: Well I'm done then. I wanna come back xD

I'm dreaming. I'm feeling nothing short of epic. I'm at a -2, if that were theoretically possible. It's not though, so let's slap my happy self at a one.

Alecsander's picture

Good to hear. Having

Good to hear.
Having forgotten your earlier dream you enter the dream world.
You appear waist deep.
It is very foggy and there are decrepit wispy trees around you.
You cannot see very far in their direction.

You can hear animals moving around in the brush on the bank.
A crocodile swims past.

You are dreaming.
In fact you KNOW you are dreaming.
Because you're back in the dark room.
With the rectangle, surrounded by walls on all sides.
The game is afoot.

I instantly reach for the rectangle, to see if I can find that bloody clock.

The clock is precisely where

The clock is precisely where you left it.
As your hand touches it the light turns back on.
It lights up a steady "3:00".

It seems happy to see you.

Are you sure?
At the moment you seem to be correct.
It is dead silent other than the background noise of nature.
The dreamworld is your oyster.
What do you wish to do?
Bylah's picture

Right as I'm about to scold

Right as I'm about to scold the clock for being an unmitigated craphead, I realize that it's set to three o'clock. Being a curious bint, I decide to try an experiment:

"What is three plus three?"

Yes. I'm officially talking to a clock.

Alecsander's picture

The clock shuffles through

The clock shuffles through numbers for a few minutes before it settles on
"80:085"

There shouldn't be enough spaces on a clock to do that.
But hey, it's a dream.
Since when does it have to make sense?
Bylah's picture

I give the clock an annoyed

I give the clock an annoyed look.

"I wanted to know if you were sentient. Now I know you're immature. Way to go."

"I mean immature in the most loving way possible, mind you."

I pick up the clock, however. I discovered previously that the clock seems to run on nothing. Is that still the case?

Rainflower's picture

The clock still has no cord or batteries, but there is a key sticking out of the back.
Presumably to wind it up.
Has that always been there before?
The clock starts flipping through numbers again aimlessly.
Alecsander's picture

You look around the

You look around the surroundings.
You can see another pool of swamp water across a small stretch of land.
There are many trees with many branches you could climb.
There is an opening in the trees across the crocodile infested waters.
You can faintly smell something decaying.

A few bright lights are dancing further into the swamp and you can barely make out the shapes.
Bylah's picture

I'm pretty sure that the key

I'm pretty sure that the key is a new addition. So sure, in fact, that I try to pull it out. I try gently, mind you. Breaking my new friend is not on my 'to-do' list. That's reserved for hot men with long hair.

....Also, because I'm willing to try out theories, I kiss the clock face.

...In case, yanno, it wants to turn into a hot man with long hair.

Rainflower's picture

I start to walk towards the dancing balls of light, but I'm running straight back if they're what I think the are.

Alecsander's picture

Alas it's not *that* kind of

Alas it's not *that* kind of dream.

As the key is removed the clock starts to blink again.
The flashing light illuminated the carved design of the odd wooden rectangle.
The light momentarily reflects back.

You approach the lights.
They are small orbs swirling in circles over the water.
They are giggling loudly and seem to be having fun.
They speed up when they see you.
They seem very happy to see you.
Bylah's picture

Fiddlesticks. Ah, well. Can't

Fiddlesticks. Ah, well. Can't blame a gal for trying. However, blinking light is a good thing.

I use the blinking light of the clock to better examine the rectangle. What in the blue blazes is it?

Alecsander's picture

The light illuminates that the shape is a door.
It is only about as high as your chest.
There is a heavy brass knocker on the surface, but no door handle.
It seems that you have found a way out.

For gits and shiggles...I put the key back in the clock. Just to see what it does.

Alecsander's picture

You foolishly approach and

You foolishly approach and suddenly sink down into the mud up to your neck mid-dance.
This causes the orbs of light to fall into hysterics and they whip around your head laughing insanely.
You seem to be stuck for now.

The clock lights up again and settles on the time of "43110".
It seems quite content to be lit up again and you have a consistent stream of light.
Bylah's picture

"Hey to you too, Jost." It's

"Hey to you too, Jost."

It's YOH-st.

I've named the clock, I kid you not.

"Sorry about that. Needed to check something. Let's carry on."

Seeing as the door only comes up to my chest, I crouch down, and try to get a better look at the door's knocker.
