A fight had broken out nearby, and amber eyes quickly locked on the contestants. His beak parted with interest.
"Ohhh, patience! Lookie lookie!"
"Is hungry, yessk. Share."
"Kackkshkk! Will be meat. Blue-wolf is meat. Can eat, if help."
A strand of drool fell from
"Yessss. We will be fat and happy, yes! Must try..." He ruffled his feathers, panting with excitement. The scavenger had never been proposed such a large meal.
Their efforts were largely in vain, however, and they managed only scraps of feathers and fur. Her guardians warded them at every opportunity. Thwarted, they rested in the golden bird's nest, disgruntled and hungry.
"More paaaaaay-tience, he chuffed. "They leave eventually... The smell makes sick-ck-ck, ehkeke."

Elias nodded slightly, his
His beak parted in surprise as he listened out into the distance, one ear swiveled to the carrion beast.
"Scary dark-fire-beast! Invincible, can't be done!" Despite his protests, the smaller creature had already stood to leave, and the yellow bird began to follow. They found the source of the conflict in moments, staying clear from a boar's snapping jaws and the angry tines of a spiked doe.
"No fun," he jeered as they retreated to cover not once, but twice.
When the struggle began anew, their merriment was interrupted by the charge of a dozen or more hooves. Unable to remove himself in time from the stampede, Elias was bowled over by the flaming equine, and then trampled by several deer running by. A rough squawk shot out before the air was knocked and then crushed out of him, and once the herd had gone past, he lay motionless and disoriented on the forest floor.
"In den! In den! Safe!" It

It felt like ages in the rot-filled cave, though he was not exactly present for all of them. On occasion he drifted out of consciousness, slumped against the rock wall. In one moment of clarity he discovered that his friend had vanished, and so had the firebeast. Dazed and afraid, he ventured out to find his friend at the Ruin amongst the poppies.
Sniffling, he hobbled to him and leaned on him for support, and found himself guided to his roost.
"N-not safe... not alone...." Elias collapsed in his roost, quivering and bleeding. "Stay... will you stay?..."
With that, the bird slipped into unconsciousness once more.

The beast's steps were quick and heavy as he rummaged through the forest, his sensitive nose picking up any trace that the bird may have left behind. No rock was left unturned, and no tree was left unchecked.
Ramsus was going to find him.
He'd sniff out whatever stinkhole the bird was hiding in and dig him out. The beast was done playing games and he was done giving out warnings; if the bird was dumb enough to show his face around his family yet again, then he'd get what he deserved. He'd swear on snapping the creature's neck in half the first chance he got. The bird needed to be eliminated.
As the storm within the bull raged on, his sensitive nose twitched ever so slightly upon picking up a fresh trail of Elias' scent, his thick brow muscles furrowing. It wasn't long at all before the beast's stark white eyes caught a glimpse of the creature's form, wherever he was - and Ramsus would waste no time in carrying out his mission. Without any hesitance, Ramsus charged forward into the bird's direction with opened jaws, snapping in the bird's direction if he could get near enough to get a grip of him. And if not, he'd chase after him with momentum propelling him forward, his long strides carrying him far.
(No worries! I always like
It was certainly odd for Ramsus to find him like this. Rightfully so, in his eyes the bird was a dumb scavenger, at times a vicious one. And here now he had caught him flatfooted, belly up in a patch of hyacinths and enjoying the sunshine.
It didn't last long, however, for the bird's keen ears had heard the nearing steps, and from the corner of his vision the Beast made itself plainly visible. Without hesitation, Elias rolled to his feet. He knew exactly why he was here.
"Stupid stinking toothbeast!! RAWWK!!" The pale bird shrieked as he danced away from the first charge. He kicked up his heels in defiance, sharp hooves slashing by the shoulder of his attacker. Once grounded again he leapt away, behind a nearby tree. Ramsus would have to out-maneuver him if he wanted to catch him.
"Didn't hurt her! Didn't hurt her!" Elias shouted. He steeled himself to dodge as the monster prepared to charge again. "You stupid? Prett-t-t-ty baby didn't have a scrrrrratch on her!"
The bull's jaws snapped at
The beast's eyes flickered to the bird's new position behind a nearby tree, ears immediately flattening upon hearing what he shouted out, the word 'stupid' only infuriating the bull more. "I'M stupid?! You've got no SENSE at all, you dumb FUCKING-" he was cut off by his own jaws opening to snap at the bird again once he snaked his head around the tree, though yet again he'd caught nothing but air and a rather hard hit to the edge of his shoulder from the trunk of the tree. But that didn't stop the hulking creature from his pursuit.
Whatever direction Elias had gone, the bull wasn't far off. "You tried to make a meal out of MY daughter, and you expect ME to trust that you won't try again?!" His voice was loud and booming, causing several birds from the trees to fly off in a hurry. "You WILL stay away from her, or by god I WILL tear you limb from limb!" That is, if he didn't kill him here first. The bull wasn't in any kind of mood to stop or show mercy.
With a sudden burst of energy, Ramsus lengthened his stride and sprinted after Elias, his head lowering to try and knock his hard ram horns into the bird's hindquarters.
Eli was swift and agile, and
"Why would?" he panted, beak parted and small grey tongue clicking at the upper mouth. "Might be stupid, but not that-t stupid! Don't wanna die. She tooooo big anyway! Big and strrrrong. Take-k-kes after you, Toothbea-- AAIIRK!"
Interrupted by Ramsus once again slamming into this tree, Elias lit off again and got himself to the crest of a nearby hill. "Gonna bash your own brrrrrains out? Won't caaaaatch pret-ty birrrd like that-t-t-t-t, Toothbeast. Go away!"
The bull's head raised just
Before he could steer clear from the tree Elias hid behind, his horns collided with the trunk, forcing him to come to a complete stop. The force of the attack had caused the tree to shake a little, and if it had been any thinner it likely could have been torn down. Fortunately the bull was more than equipped to handle such a collision, and it did nothing more than buy Elias some extra time.
Ramsus' head shook once he raised it, his eyes searching for the direction Elias had gone in. The bull turned on his haunches and jogged towards the crest of the hill, coming to a walk once he neared the top. "Oh, but you do want to die," he corrected, managing to keep himself level headed for the moment. "Isn't that why you insist on hanging around my daughter? Because you wish to die?" His frown deepened a great deal once he came to a halt.
"Nothing wants to die," the
"W..wanna fix it..." He now stammered in the face of the beast. The chance to merely speak to him had never been afforded to him, and he could always run away again, but he didn't want to. "Me.. I, am tired of... of running... Are you? Don't wanna hurt her no more. Don't you see? I wanna fix it. Could look out for her when you not here..."
He struggled momentarily, gulped again, shifted his weight on his hooves. It felt like he wasn't communicating well enough.
"You been hungry before, T-Toothbeast? Real hungry. Do stupid things when you that hungry... I made mistake, yes. But won't hurt her no more, promise!!"
Silence.
"Don't wanna die, Toothbeast..."
Ramsus' eyes narrowed at the
The bull couldn't help but think how easy it would be for him to break his neck in two if he could just get close enough to grab him. But alas, life was never that easy.
His upper lip curled a little when the creature attempted to 'relate' to him, feeling as though they shared absolutely nothing in common. He didn't like being compared to someone the likes of him. However, Ramsus wouldn't say anything until the bird finish completely. "I am nothing like you." He took a step closer, but nothing more than that. "Hunger would never force me to make a meal out of someone's child." The bull's head lowered ever so slightly, his stark white eyes piercing into the bird's own.
"There is not one single thing you can do to fix this. You will not 'look out' for my daughter. You will stay the fuck away, as far as fucking possible. Do you understand?" Ramsus' tone was clear and threatening. "If I ever catch you around her again - hell, if I catch you trying to eat anyone again, I will slaughter you in your sleep." Another warning, though not any less real. And if it ever came to that, Elias would have to sleep with one eye open for the rest of his days.
"And next time, I will have backup. So don't think for a second that we won't be able to catch you, because you cannot run forever." A single mouth corner twitched, his voice becoming a little condescending and strained, as if trying to keep himself back from charging into him right then and there. "Got it, bub?"
