Well, I myself would have to say Personality, but (don't worry, dear wordsmith, I'll be no fence sitter!) my idea of Physique might not always be the ideal. Once one understand the ugly of something, it begins to be endearing, in a way.
Queze on the other-hand values the Olympian ideal above cerebral accomplishments.
In truth, I think that no deer, doe or stag, can ever be truly lovely unless there is a lovely light behind their eyes. Bodies are just a way of interacting with the world; they're mallable. I don't believe a lasting feeling can be built based on something that can be changed in a flash of light. You can admire a beautiful form, you can lust after it, it can feel warm beside you, but you can't really love it... Or, in other words, I believe that personality is what one really loves.
All those who say personality are truly liers. Do you see the opposites personality first? No. You see their Physique. Then their Personality which you claim to notice first. Though one could be nice looking but quite dim in personality.
the point i made which actually is quite truthful can be joined to yours.
i feel compelled to point out that, while yes you may be more inclined to look at appearance, when it comes to the long run personality does matter more.
Both.
Appearance is the thing that first might take the attention but it will only get as far as being partners if the personality attracts enough as well.
I wouldn't start mate thing with someone only having appealing looks BUT I might start it with someone with less appealing looks but with personality that I like.
Appearance is what takes my attention at first but in the end personality is the thing that matters the most to me.
@Lust: The question was not what you notice first, now, was it? It's what prevails. Besides, you mistake me, at the least -- my eyes go first either to a deer's name, or what they are doing. A deer who is doing nothing of interest to me -- well, it matters little what they look like, I won't be interested in seeing them unless I know them, then.
The Red Stag playfully pouted. "Aw come now, personality here, but back in the world of mountains one must choose the stronger genetics to keep their children alive!"
He just didn't want to admit defeat again, ah dear the joys of betting.
Now our dear Silence didn't specifically claim whether personality previals in the long run of the relationship, he said 'attracting a partner' correct? So, in the context that I took the question is that the first initial stage. You're saying you see personality first? Then Physique? Now if he had said 'Which matters most in the long run of the relationship' I would indeed vote for Personality.
Seed laughs a little. "Yes, Virgil, but this isn't the world of the mountains -- I've never seen that world of yours. If we were, maybe I'd agree with you... But then again, in that world of yours, someone like myself would neither have come to pass nore survived." He shrugs and smiles, enjoying the discussion.
"You're right, Lust -- I mustunderstood the terms. I was reading in the context of the question, not the thing itself... But I still must hold my ground. I'm not even interested in meeting a deer if they don't seem to be wanting to do interesting things, much less having one for a partner... and in both cases in my experience, I only became attracted to someone after I was with them for a while."
I hate to disagree with my dear brother.. but personality wins. It doesn't matter how you look.. it's how you feel for each other in the end that is the most important. You could be the most handsome stag, or the most beautiful doe... and be as shallow and useless as a puddle after a rain shower. What's the use in that? Wouldn't you want to spend your time with someone whom you know cares about you as much as you care for them, regardless?
"Once, long ago, I met a man. At length, as all men do, he was a lover, a poet. All men do unto great things; at times, they are moved to words. He once wrote,
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way
than this: where I do not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.
"One should love fiercely..and love waits for no man. It neither discriminates nor holds great grudges. Love forgives all. Love does not care how one looks. You do not love someone for the qualities in them that you like; you love them for the qualities in them you don't."
Well Well, if I were back in my herd and the threat of predators were abounding, for practicality, I would prefer a stag with large antlers, strong body and a good sense of how to use them in battle. I may or may not love him.
However, this is not my herd, and no threat exists here that I would desire extra protection for. I can choose freely my mate without being hindered by the need of strength and skill. It's his personality I would desire above his looks.
A strong physical appearance is all well for the youth, but when you pelt turns gray and your antlers crack and bones fail, what will you have to attract a mate with, then? Or does the desire and need for comfort and warmth not matter to a solitary old hind or stag? I would think it would mean much more! And yet if all he had in his youth was stout antlers, and never bothered to develop his soul, he must die young or journey through his later days alone.
"Attracting...a partner? It's not something I ever thought about, or tried to do... But if it helps, I have never cared about how someone looks. I actually...don't even really notice. Is that strange? Well, a deer is a deer, regardless of how they look, right? Why does it matter what they look like? I have never looked at someone and thought they were ugly, or pretty, or whatever else. ...Er...with just one exception... I look at them and I see a deer, and nothing more. That doesn't mean everyone looks the same to me, but it's just that someone's appearance just isn't something I really even think about.
I don't know anything about...attracting a partner... So there's nothing I can say about that. Except that, I guess I don't understand why you would need to 'attract' someone. I always thought that...love was just something that just happens naturally..."
"For denne dyren av Mareritts er det nesten umulig for også velger... Skjønnhet og Fysikk er at en ting til å bli tultrukket til men Personligheten er fjernt mer alluring i øynene av noe liker meg. Selvfølgelig... Skjønnhet i vender tiltrekker dette kreaturet til de rundt og ofte tider som Marerittet blir beroliget av en Drøm."
(For this beast of Nightmare's it's almost impossible for it too choose... Beauty and Physique are a thing to be attracted to but the Personality is far more alluring in the eyes of something like me. Of course... Beauty in turn attracts this creature to those around and often times the Nightmare is calmed by a Dream.)
In short, Nightmare likes both but finds Beauty in the Physique more alluring than the Personality at times.
"Physique counts for naught. Love is blind to it until after you've fallen and reached the bottom; only then can you stand and see; notice how beautiful they are after knowing what you know, feeling how you feel. Face value is pure attraction... Lusting after a pretty thing. A diamond is beautiful, and there is a need to touch, to own. But once touched, it is simply another trinket; a notch on a bedpost."
"Well, well, well... Quite the little debate we have going, here~ ♥ If you're going to be two-faced, at least make one of them pretty-where the flaws of personality preside, the ruse of costume prevails. Life is far too short for a show lacking flair ♥"
"I don't see ones personality first, but I do see their physical appearance. If I like how you look, then I will take the time to love your personality. "
Personality indeed ;D
