In the links above is a Deer walking animation I produced in Flash CS4 using Rotoscoping. It's my first attempt and I'm pretty chuffed with how it came out. ^^

::EDIT::

The newer animation (v.4) is now here:

I may update this post in future with my developments on this. :3 Next attempt will use colouring and so forth. The current updates may not be noticeable at first.

I'm actually thinking that if I can perfect this enough and make them neat enough, I'll start doing mini sigs for people, just like Moogie's doing. Ofc, mine will never be as good as hers. xP

Thanks for the comment Firedance. <3

Just to let people know. I realised that in a few frames, the legs were incorrectly positioned. That's changed now and I have the new version up. :3

I intend to smoothen out this animation and then make a copy with colour. ^^

Thanks! v.4 is up now and I'm figuring out if there's anyway I can smoothen out the transition for the loop.. You can still sorta tell when it happens because there's a slight delay in the back legs. I have tried moving the legs slightly but it seems to throw the whole animation out. >.<

If people have suggestions, please send them!

Hmm... after a bit of studying, I think I can offer some help with that problem. It's difficult to tell without looking at each individual frame, but I suspect the front-hind-leg begins AND ends in the same position in the animation. If this is the case, that makes 2 frames next to eachother where its position is the same (or very close), while all the other legs are in constant motion. This may be the cause of the slight limp, but it is just a guess. My at-a-glance suggestion would be to examine the first and last frame and look at that leg for some sort of error, adjusting accordingly.

Nevertheless it's a beautiful animation. Smiling I'm watching to see how it progresses.

Animating rawks!! xD

Weee, I was hoping you'd comment Moog. Yeah, the last and first frame share the same parts hence the small delay, but I've tried moving the leg and it ends up looking so silly. >.< I think I'll try again with the reference video to try and reposition it better. I want to get the walking fixed before I smoothen it out and even think about adding colour.

And yes! Animating is fun. :3 I might have found a new hobby in rotoscoping.
