Cerelia's heart slowly sank lower as the silence continued. She was slightly startled by the rain, her ears perked once more. It was so warm and dry a few minutes ago...
Then Tybalt spoke something she didn't quite hear, but the nudge on her neck was enough to make her jump. Her face turned from orange to red, somewhat embarrassed, somewhat something else. She stared at him for a moment, "Oh.. Uh, yes... Shall we go to the Old Oak?" She raised herself onto her legs, waiting for him to follow.
---
Tybalt nodded, standing up, and then began to trot quickly to the Oak, the raindrops soaking into his fur, which was thicker and longer than most deer's pelts. His antlers provided some shelter for his face, so that he could see clearly where he was going.
Cerelia followed closely, the rain giving her shivers all the time. They finally reached the Oak, in which she dove for it. She stood just outside the entrance shaking off all the rain water, then going to the very back of the tree. She sat down, waiting for Tybalt to follow again. There was a small hope inside that he would sit a little closer. And maybe talk a little.
---
Tybalt shook his fur, water spraying off of him. He then entered the Oak, looked around, and then walked over to Cerelia.
Gathering his courage - and there was tons of it - Tybalt sat down right beside Cerelia, so that their bodies were pressed against eachother.
His excuse?
His fur was thicker than hers. He could keep her warm.
"...Hast thou ever seen snow, Cerelia?" Tybalt asked quietly, his eyes focusing on the pouring rain outside.
Cerelia almost choked up when he sat down next to her. Her heart went into a flurry, causing a small red line across her face. Other than that, he was... really warm. She shifted slightly to make herself more comfortable. Her ears perked at his question, "Snow? Oh... I had lain eyes on it once before, but 'twas not as much as here... I lived not too far away from Verona, so thou can imagine it cannot become very cold..." She never made eye contact with him, she was too nervous now.
---
Tybalt's ears flicked as he heard a slight quiver in Cerelia's voice, and he shifted slightly, his body rubbing against her side.
"Ah...'Tis a beautiful sight, is it not?" The stag asked, resting his head on the ground. He was tempted to curl his neck around the doe beside him, but refrained.
Cerelia smiled faintly, "Aye... When it falls, yes. However, I do not think I'm one for snow... I prefer the warmer weather in the summer... She let out a yawn. A fake yawn or a real yawn, no one but her will know. She lowered her head next to his, moving her neck so hers was touching his, though their faces were still apart. Bold move. She was almost too impulsive, but she didn't care. She closed her black eyes and let out a sigh, "I wonder what has happened since we came here... Anything important was surely missed. What kind of things, do you think?" She spoke quietly, half her heart soaring, half of it sinking in memories.
---
Tybalt managed to prevent himself from shivering in delight when Cerelia's neck touched his, and merely looked sideways at her before gazing back outside. "I think not of the past too often...But perhaps things hath changed...Though how, I cannot think..." A soft breath blew a small cloud of dirt away from Tybalt, and he moved his face ever so slightly to the side, barely a centimetre from Cerelia's orange face.
Cerelia drew in a breath. "Tybalt... I..." She couldn't finish. Of course not, they were so close to each other! Part of her didn't want to ruin the moment. She just started to hum a little tune, one she knew from childhood. Her soft song hummed through the hollow tree for a few minutes, then faded away. Cerelia sighed, "Forgive me, my voice is not one of the angels..." She chuckled softly, settling herself down again. "The tune used to get me through the day back then..."
---
Tybalt's ears perked up as he listened to the tune. "Were times difficult for thee, Cerelia?" The stag asked, lifting his head and looking down at Cerelia. His dark eyes studied her carefully.
Cerelia, noticing Tybalt's head was lifting away from her, lifted her head as well. "I... I suppose thou could'st say that... 'Twas not as glamorous as thy life in Verona, that is certain... Some would call it poverty.. I called it home." Her eyes and voice trailed as she returned to her memories.
---
Tybalt turned his head to look sympathetically at Cerelia. Then, in a gentler tone, he said, "It pains me to hear such things...This life hath proven to be far better for both of us, has it not?"
Hah. He said it pained him.
Nothing had ever pained him, unless you counted being "ganged up on" by Mercutio, Romeo and Benvolio.
Cerelia chuckled, "I should agree... The pain of hardship and disease... 'twas all worth it, was it not? I believe we were blessed with this second chance at life..." The rain outside was pouring now, thick sheets of water constantly flowed down. Even the dry wood of the Old Oak leaked a little, a few drops moistening the soft ground.
---
Tybalt nodded, then shivered. "Aye..." He then turned his head to look at the doe. "Art thou not freezing? Even with my thick fur, I hath grown cold..."
Cerelia looked to him, her black eyes twinkling. "Why would...." She looked down, and after a moment, smiled sweetly. She pushed herself against his side, and put her head against his thick furry neck. She would never find the most accurate words. She hoped that this was enough for him to know.
---
Tybalt's dark eyes widened as Cerelia made her move, and his ears flattened against his head. What could he say to her?
But now he was certain.
The feeling was mutual.
And so the proud stag threw away his pride for a few brief moments, dipped his head, and did his best to nuzzle Cerelia.
