An Autumn Passing
Willow leaves, faded brown
and damp from lifted fog,
rustle under belly --
the great grey expanse
of dimming autumn sky,
days like running breaths,
short gasps of light --
I read the course of my absence
from their figures, and hidden
in the silence of a companion's wounds.
This, like autumn, will pass me by.
