The speckled fawn awoke in the patch of poppies, lifting its head to observe its surroundings. Raizo, its name was, stood on rigid limbs and began to stumble towards the clearing maybe five yards away. He took his time, falling over himself and crawling to his hooves again. There was a serenity in the silence of the forest that met him there, greeting him with bird calls and the sensation of grass that brushed against his ankles. His tawny pelt tickled against the wind. Eyes the color of the pond by which he stood, Raizo turned his gaze towards the sounds of another fawn's cries. He almost couldn't figure out how to mimick this, flustered and lost yet curious to follow the noise. Raizo let his legs carry him atop a rock for a better sound reception. The call came again and something, some sort of animal reaction inside his head, told him it was a doe. She called again. This time, she was closer. Filling with excitement, Raizo scampered across the sodden earth until he collided with the doe. They paused, looking each other other. The doe stepped forward and gave him her scent, standing back with a subtle smile. Bellin.
