Asriel lowered his head to a point just below the others in greeting, noticing the gaze that attempted to cut into him. He bet if he was anything like his friend Azalea, he'd probably flinch from being under it. But it wouldn't be the first time he'd been set under such a scrutinizing look, and it most definitely wouldn't be the last. He knew this as he lifted his head back up and closing his mouth with a soft click.
"I guess my mother didn't tell you my name," he said. "I'm Asriel. Her son." He flicked an ear as a bird of some sort swooped overhead. His gaze moving from Kalma's sharp one to settle on something else. More or less they eventually locked onto a strand of the other's black hair. He still lived by that simple code. Something Nadezdha taught him when he was still young. He could only pin it to the wolf-doe's past in the end for the reason behind it.
"She mentioned you to me more than once. I honestly didn't think I'd find you, yet here you are." His ears bent back, and he took on a more reluctant look. "If I was bothering, I could leave..." He thought about hunting again and wondered if Kalma, himself, hunted. Nadezdha mostly hung out with predators, so maybe there was a chance he did. He looked predatory, and he had the personality to fit. He looks it, sounds like it, but how does he do it in the end?
More or less, it was an unspoken question poking around the words: You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk?
The greeting was inspected and approved in the end. He wouldn't answer to it before learning the other's name though.
Asriel? Indeed Kalma had never heard that name before, nor did he know that Nadezdha had a son. But were they related by blood? The two didn't really look the same. At all. But that wasn't really his business anyways, nor was he truly interested in small details. The creatures in this forest liked to 'adopt' others just like that. A sigh
"Thank you.. Asriel," he told after a briel pause, tasting the name with his tongue, pressing it into his memory before his other front leg shifted a tad forward, neck curling into a graceful bow. "A pleasure to meed Nadezdha's son.. Even if I fail to see why you'd want to find me of all the creatures." Even if the doe had mentioned him a couple times, it wasn't much of a reason in Kalma's mind.
"Not bothering." Not at the moment, that was. His eyes hadn't left the stag, not even during the earlier bow, and the gaze would remain on the other's bony face. On the eyesockets to be more precise, staring straight into the cyan eyes of the other. Not to intimidate, but to observe.
"Well, so far you've been more real than most," he admitted, giving a curt nod toward the other. His eyes trailing toward the woods for a moment before resting back onto Kalma's bangs. "If that means anything."
In the sense of being "real" was something Asriel believed to be the more better of personalities. So far, Kalma hadn't cracked a smile. It wasn't something he looked for in everyone he met, and even though it was a nice touch, the stag knew most who gave it first hand without a proper reason were questionable. As far as he knew, Kalma had no reason to smile at him; a stranger. He didn't put up a fake smile for his sake, and Asriel immediately took that as a sign of reality. A sense of someone who was firm and stable and didn't put up a front to please others.
Or so far he's seen. He'd only met the intriguing other, and so far so good.
Even if Kalma would have smiled for some odd reason, the mask would have covered it up. Not even his eyes would have shown the amusement, as that was one of the most easiest feeling to hide.
"Suppose it must mean something," the ravenheired acknowledged, and finally blinked his eyes while letting his gaze to move from the bright eyes of the other, now inspecting the features of the stranger for a few seconds until the stare was right back where it had left from.
The silence usually didn't bother the buck, this time being no exception. A veil of silence fell between the two and Kalma continued his observing, taking notes of how the stag would react to the reticence. No obligations to speak were felt, but in the end the buck did so anyways. "Hmm.. Usually strangers want to sit with eachother after greeting one another.. Are you possibly an exception, or would you care to join my long gone solitude?" There was still the coldness to be felt in his voice, but the icy shards were not as gashing as just before.
x_x I shouldn't be allowed to write whilst tired.

"I wouldn't mind sitting, though it did seem you were getting up from said spot," Asriel pointed out, a small smile pulling at the corner of his mouth where bone met flesh. "If you were heading somewhere, I don't mind walking either. I guess you could say I came around out of my own curiosity. Nadezhda knew you, and I wanted to put a face to the name."
Of course there was a little more than that, but it wasn't like Asriel was going to be the one to straight up ask for some sort of friendship. That was something you worked on. "She didn't tell me much of the whole reason how she found you, nor did she tell me why she stayed around you like she did. Nadezdha does reasons that sometimes I cannot even comprehend. She's random. But something did tell me she did something to be of help."
He knew that, ever since Asfaloth had sorta left the wood, Nadezdha had become a sentinel figure. Watching out for others and protecting the weak like some sort of hero you read or heard about. It was a good, respectful job, but it had its dangerous perks.
"Indeed. Won't mind walking with me then, eh?" Not really a question, as the buck was already turning, creating one more glance to the stag now behind him before facing forward and starting to walk forward, expecting Asriel to follow if he wanted to chat for some more. He was heading to the part of the forest where the grass grew long and wild, where everything provided more peace and quietness.
A silence was present for a long time until the buck felt like talking again, offering the probably waited answer. "She was truly a huge help in the middle of hard times. I haven't seen her in a long time though.." Not that the dark one had even bothered to search for familiar faces. These days he preferred solitude and his unrelated brothers over everything, as selfish as that may have sounded. He wasn't much into the whole 'friendship' thing, but it was nice to see familiar creatures after some time.
Who knows, maybe even Asriel could one day be one of those the buck held close to his heart. That would require a lot of time and hard work though, possibly from both of them if Asriel was even into that sort of thing.
The gaze from inside Kalma's mask seemed to be lazily sweeping through the bushes and the tall grass, but he was being cautious as always, not wanting to be surprised by anything nor anyone. His nose was working all the time too, inaudibly sniffing the many scents the wind brought upon him. The new 'home' of the buck wasn't far from the idol, nor was it too deep in the golden forest. Seemed like a perfect spot really; One larger birch tree growing in the middle of soft grass, and a few thinner trees surrounding the whole beauty in the form of a semicircle. There the lean figure gazed back, tapping the ground with his ebony hoof and offered a seat for the golden one.
He would not make haste with sitting down himself, as he wanted to keep the distance between the bonyface and himself, and it would have been a bother if the other would have sat too close and forced him to move. But once the cyan eyed was sitting, the buck would do the same with the preferred distance.
A silent nod and Asriel followed, attempting to take on lighter steps as the both of them walked into the thicker, denser woodland. Hunting had provided him a good idea of which animals fled where, and the tall grass was a place for foxes to hide and hunt in. Mice, too small to really satisfy his hunger, hid in the stalks. If one were quick enough, you could possibly catch a squirrel here, too, but they tend to linger around their favored trees too much. The only way to get up to those heights would be with wings, and as far as he was concerned, Asriel wasn't going to be fighting squirrels in his crow state any time soon.
He listened to Kalma's words on Nadezdha, and brought up visions in his mind of what the scenery would have looked like. It turned out to be blurred in the end, but he was positive that his mother had made the good impression she mostly makes on others.
"She's often patrolling," he answered. "Becoming the forest's sentinel in a way. I have an older friend who was teaching her, but she didn't really need the teachings. She was a wolf of sorts in her past life, and it's pretty much hardwired into her system." A soft chuckle.
As they passed through the semi-circle of trees surrounding the darker one's home, Asriel found himself gazing upward into the tree tops. Sunlight filtered downward, and the shadows of birds occasionally blocked the view as they darted in between the thin tree limbs high above. The place reminded him of walking into a great hall of sorts. The human world had offered him some sights that weren't in the forest and it had somewhat broadened his way of seeing things. He sometimes questioned if that was a bad or a good thing: the way stepping from this magical place and into such a mundane environment. As if his pure connection with just forest magic has dwindled in a way, but at the same time it hasn't because he was still here.
He looked back down, coming to a halt when he realized Kalma was addressing him again, and took in the gesture. He nodded, accepting the offer to sit, before stepping forth and doing so. While taking note that the other didn't take a seat just as he did. He understood, he did. Personal space was a thing even with him. He grew taught when ones he didn't know, sat too close. You would see it in the tightening of his shoulders and the bristling of the fur along his spine.
Fixing his gaze out toward the forest, he spoke up once again. "If she was here today, I would've dragged her along with me," he admitted, "but I believe she's in the human world with a couple of others I know."
It was kinda hard for the buck to believe what he was hearing, and a headtild out of somesort of curiousity was made. She had never seemed like a sentinel figure to the buck with her goofy-like personality. Or maybe that really was the way she tried to cheer others up. Who knows. Not like she was here to be questioned anyways.
However the information about her current doings caused a realising hum erupt behind the buck's mask. Human world. He would like to spend more time in that very world too if it would depend on him. Sadly it didn't.
"Thank you for the information." He'd be sure to catch the doe when she'd be back. Maybe punish her for telling his name around.
A flick of an ear was made and the crimson eyes were shot towards a sudden creak. In his mind, one could never be too aware of his surroundings, never too cautious, but the sound seemed to have come from far away. Slowly the deep gaze of his wandered back to Asriel.
"... You seem to know something about human world, hm? Have you maybe even visited the place yourself?" And as opinions of some things were important for the dark one, he had to continue. "If you have.. Say, what do you think of the humans?"
Curling his neck much like a swan would, Asriel's fur spiked up at the thought of the large, human environment that lay beyond "the rift". The place Nadezdha had brought him to was lively. The smells, sights, and sounds all new and intriguing. Another small smile curled at the sides of his mouth, the skull seeming to pull the rest of the expression off fairly well.
"I have, yes," he said, nodding. "It was a small town, but full of life. Human mothers with little ones, fathers. And then there are their inventions. Vehicles. Cars. The only thing they lack is magic." He looked in the buck's direction. "I can't feel much of it there. Not like here, anyways."
Despite his human form normally holding back most of his magical properties, the male had been able to bring forth his crow form. Using it to fly about when he got bored, and under Nadezdha's rule to not get caught. He couldn't bring forth any of his other forms. The only reasoning he could place it all on was the fact that the human world also had crows, blackbirds, and ravens. Among the many others that flew about.
"As for humans," he went on, "they are a bit mundane. Magically. I haven't had much conversation with them. And even if I do, they are short. Most of the ones I meet aren't humans, but are ones like us. They have some sort of link with the forest. It just seems that that crowd is much more to my liking. Attitude-wise. In a way they understand me better."
In truth, Asriel had often tried conversation with human kind, but not most topics went well. His human mind had taught him the simple things such as humanity's etiquette, but in the end his personality and way of thinking was his own. He was his own being, his own form, and even now if he focused, Asriel could feel the link between his human body and his current form. He was sleeping back in Nadezdha's home over there, but here he was in this thicket of trees talking with another.
It was like a thin, glowing line. A life line of sorts.
"Humans, despite lacking magical abilities, are kind of...like us here. They have their lives. Their loved ones. Family, and friends. In a way, I can't settle on a final opinion or word for them; there's just too many different types." He looked back down at the grass near him. "Or maybe I just haven't been there long enough."
No similar gestures were given back to the other's smile. During the whole time Kalma's face had seemed like it was frozen from under the red eyes. The mask made no differences, he wouldn't smile even when no one couldn't see it. Many found this odd trait of his rude, avoiding him because of it. Guess he couldn't really blame them anyways, but surely he had his reasons to hide everything, starting from the emotions.
He listened though, letting his mind to trail around the topic. Magic. It was always present in this forest. Whenever one looked at, there could be a flash of magic that was being casted, even by the young fawns. Nothing world-shaking, but clearly something the humans wouldn't be able to do. Something he couldn't do in the human world.
The stag had finished the talking some time ago already, but the buck stayed silent. Eventually a quiet snort would take place, and a small, grimmish grin bared a timy part of the canines of the smaller one. Humans... were something he utterly despised. Able to cause unimaginable pain to those who had done nothing to deserve such treatment.
Disgusting creatures really, more feral than most of the animals right in this very forest.
"I see," was his quiet reply after the expression had vanished from the pale face. He wouldn't give out his own opinions, as they were not asked, nor did he even feel like blabbering about the matter. He had gotten his answer, and the reply satisfied him for now. The buck let out an inaudible sigh, shifting his position while he was at it. The crimson eyes moved from Asriel as well, not feeling the need to keep staring constantly anymore. Partly because of the advice from someone a few days ago.
The silence between the both of them had grown thick and strong, and when Kalma finally spoke, Asriel nearly flinched. He wasn't one for awkward silences, especially if they were his fault to begin with. He just wasn't that great of a conversationalist, or so he thought. Most of his early life up to his mid-teens he'd been more feral. Using the voice of the animal he was more than the human side he had also been born with.
"You asked me what I thought about humans," Asriel said, "and it makes me curious at times as to who else might have opinions on them." He shuffled his front legs a bit out from under him. If they fell asleep, he'd have to get up to get rid of the tingling sensation. He didn't want that; he was comfortable. "But I'm not entirely in the mood to pry, so I won't ask for yours." He didn't think the other would tell him anyway. Which is fine, he thought.
A smirk tugged at his cheek, and a chuff echoed out from the nose hole in his face.
"I do know, though, that there are those who don't like humans, and I can't disagree with them. They're killers, and some of them are outright insane." He remembered some of what Nadezdha had told him over the years. Her past life had not been exactly luxurious, and a part of him wished to find the two humans whom did such awful things. He wasn't even sure they were still alive, but his promise didn't die with that shred of unsurity. "That's where I have to draw the line. I don't like humans. I don't hate them either. But they're, how you say, adequate for some things in that other world."
Kalma still didn't mind the silence, he wasn't much of a talker. It was even funny sometimes, to watch others squirm in displeasure, changing their position. Their expressions were amusing as well, but it was hard to tell what Asriel was feeling because of the bony face that lacked skin and muscles.
The black tail of the buck flicked firmly once, maybe out of annoyance that was brought up by a persistent memory from Asriel's words. "Good," Kalma replied plainly, confirming the thoughts of the other. He should be more careful when bringing up this topic, seemed like the buck never learned this one. He would take a deep breath then, almost like trying to catch a scent of some sort. Of course it was just to keep his thoughts under the heavy control, as he had somewhat promised to someone that he would do it.
"Seems like you have some sense in you, unlike some." That was quite an compliment, coming from Kalma. Still, one could find it blunt and utterly rude. What others thought, was not important to the buck however, and he would continue to speak what his tongue wanted.
Asriel's ear flicked. Had he sensed a tinge of displeasure from the other? Kalma's curt answers gave that much away, or so he thought. Hm, maybe another topic or so. Or silence. There's always silence.
And then there was the compliment. He nodded curtly, his smile still intact. Small, but there.
"Nice to know you think so," he said, amused. "Though I wish there were more with this sense. They say it's common, but I have yet to really believe that." He didn't doubt that Kalma had come across quite a few idjits in his time here in the forest along with wherever else the buck had access to.
Things were quiet then. Seconds, maybe even minutes passed. Asriel had closed his eyes and allowed the sounds of the wood give him a vision. Birds twittering above, squirrel chatter not far off, and bees hovering over the nearest flower patch. Human cities and towns didn't have this. Cars and planes, people talking on mobile devices, the high frequencies in the air. It was just so busy and fast in the human world, despite how much Asriel believed he had adapted to it so far.
The faintest of all of the snorts was given back to the stag's words, and maybe, just maybe his other mouthcorner twisted up in a genuine way. It would stay hidden as per usually, though.
Kalma quite much enjoyed the silence now, feeling relaxed when Asriel had closed his eyes. Foolish, he might have still thought. He could never close his eyes in the precense of a stranger, no. This one seemed to be quite trusting, but Kalma didn't mind it. He was very trustworthy even with unknown creatures, yes he was.
In the end the buck stayed silent, not minding to break the some sort of peace they both seemed to have gained. His content eyes gazed around lazily a few times before they stopped a bit further, staring a familiar three. The eyes would not move from that point unless his companion would suddenly move, or if someone would approach the tree he was looking at, then he would be forced to move himself and defent the small creature that was undoubtedly sleeping under the specific tree.
//sorry if this seems incoherent, I am dead tired xD
If it wasn't the weird tingle running along his spine, then it was the sudden, small growl that came up from his stomach that had the stag open his eyes. Slowly, and in an annoyed way. He hadn't hunted today, and his belly was beginning to argue with him.
"I think that's my cue," he sighed, moving a leg out to push himself upward and onto his feet. He shook, and peered down toward the other. "If you'll excuse me, I think I'll go hunting." He faced Kalma and gave him a small and simple bow, taking another look about the place when he straightened himself again, and finally coming back around the settle his gaze on the other's skull mask. The red eyes the buck had reminding Asriel of his mother's.
"I also believe the next time we meet, I'll bring Nadezdha along, too, if that's something you wouldn't mind. I know how some like their solitude."
If it hadn't been the other's voice that took the buck's attention from the tree, Kalma would've jumped up due the sudden lift of the other. Thankfully now he had the time to get up with the same pace together with the stag. Not that he was suspicious, more like.. well-prepared.
"So it seems," Kalma stated while his pervasive eyes were checking the stag up, from head to the tip of his hooves until brought back to stare into the cyan eyes. He would try to memorize how Asriel looked, and with the he golden color, his coat was quite memorable.
"As you wish," he started after a while of thinking, "Would be nice to see her around."
The familiar tree was being peered by a pair of crimson eyes a few times, until the buck opened his mouth for the last time. "Good luck for the hunt." His own neck would curl then too, giving back a similar goodbye bow he had just received himself.
After all this was done, Kalma would wait until Asriel had taken his leave before plopping back down, now deep in his thoughts yet senses still working perfectly.
Asriel nodded curtly to Kalma's words before taking his moving out. He'd have to hunt a lot in the coming months before winter struck. He could feel the changes in the air. A harsh winter? It was possible. So, in short, he'd have to be ready.
"Fair winds!" he called over his shoulder, giving the other male one last look before picking up the pace and disappearing into the denser woodland where prey awaited.
Holy moly! Somehow I had forgotten about this trade of ours! I shall get into it asap!
Your art looks really stunning! That might be the best hair I've seen on Kalma yet! So long and perfect. ;u; The skull is so nice too, and the markings are a spot on! Thank you so much for this, somehow it always feels so good to receive traditional art. This really made my evening. ♥
Are you sure I did??? XD OMG I cannot remember ANYTHING. -embarrassed-
Also sure, I am always up for RP's. ^^ Except if you wanted to RP with my Kalma here, maybe we could wait until he comes back in the forest? :") I have other characters too, if you really would like to RP with me.
That is strange. I stalked this bio anyways, but didn't notice until yesterday that it didn't appear in my track list when updated, oh well. xD
And lol, poor Kalma, Daaé doesn't realize how he feels about the closeness, she is just happy to cuddle up in his fur. ^-^
Yeah, I guess that is why she is so cuddly with him as well. Kalma was among the first faces - aside from her parents and sister - she began to recognize when she was little. :')
Rofl, no, Daaé certainly didn't pulll any stunts like that, haha. xD
Mine ♥

Curling his neck much like a
"I have, yes," he said, nodding.
No similar gestures were
He listened though, letting his mind to trail around the topic.
The silence between the both
"You asked me what I thought about humans," Asriel said, "and it makes me curious at times as to who else might have opinions on them." He shuffled his front legs a bit out from under him.
Kalma still didn't mind the
The black tail of the buck flicked firmly once, maybe out of annoyance that was brought up by a persistent memory from Asriel's words.
What others thought, was not important to the buck however, and he would continue to speak what his tongue wanted.
oh my, this bio looks
Asriel's ear flicked. Had he
And then there was the compliment.
Aaaa thank you so much! ...

The faintest of all of the
Kalma quite much enjoyed the silence now, feeling relaxed when Asriel had closed his eyes.

If it hadn't been the other's
Eeee, thanks for the RP, Tuo

Asriel nodded curtly to Kalma's words before taking his moving out. He'd have to hunt a lot in the coming months before winter struck. He could feel the changes in the air. A harsh winter? It was possible. So, in short, he'd have to be ready.
"Fair winds!" he called over his shoulder, giving the other male one last look before picking up the pace and disappearing into the denser woodland where prey awaited.
