....
....

A rather emotionally traumatizing event that happened some weeks ago hit harder than she thought it would, considering others may view it as unimportant or not worth the mind. Promised herself that it would not drown her and she would stay in forest, but found herself less and less inclined to revisit until lately. Hurt by memories and a particular spot within the Endless, finds it easy to avoid the spot, but not the memory. Busying herself, but finding it difficult with the quiet.

A year. No, perhaps much longer than that. Some days it felt like an eternity, and some it feels like it happened just the other day. During her vanish from the forest, the latter was becoming much less and less over time. As was her meetings and time spent with Alaric. It was easy for her to cut their tie when the day came upon he was asking for what she had promised all that time ago. She had not forgotten. How could anyone forget such a promise of one self to another. But time had passed now, and she was not as desperate, not as grieving, not as hungry for what he had promised her in trade for her own. His gift from long ago she finally destroyed, throwing it into the belly of a beast in Lias after aggravating the poor behemoth to take her burden from her. That it did. Weight from her shoulders lifted in a way that felt she had grown wings, that her appendages had grown with such size they could lift her to the sky. Her group only need move once when their position was compromised and Alaric had somehow found a way to send men to Lias in search of her.

It had been months and months since any sighting, any talk, and any scent of him. Imja was given the freedom to grow to all she was capable of, and such a formidable sight she was. More often than not the pair spent hours together exploring, bonding, Aleta perfecting her riding posture and skill, and Imja perfecting her own balance and cue reading.

And then, the Hummingbird realized, it had been a week since she thought of the trials she endured in forest, a week it had been since she thought of the lost little life taken too soon it could not even be given a chance at sight. A week turned into two, and then three, and soon months were passing her by without the drowning feel of grief. It was only then, when she could think of the lifeless body trampled beneath her protective form and not hurt as much as it had the same day, that she visited the forest, and to the small memorial she had put up so long ago. Fresh flowers were left, along with one torn from her shoulders, and a small one sided conversation before Lavender would find her way to the most comforting spot the forest could give her.

"The sky grew darker, painted blue on blue, one stroke at a time, into deeper and deeper shades of night."
Haruki Murakami
