A journey into the endless forest (Prologue)
Nera was always a problem child for his parents and would never listen to them, preferring instead to run away by himself and adventure. He spent hours each day exploring the forests of his homeland, pretending he was a great stag who ruled over his realm.
He had few friends and was smaller than most of the other fawns in the forest, usually getting picked on by them and chased away from the favoured playgrounds. He learnt from an early age all the different hiding places in his forest and was very clever in making himself disappear if things didn't go how he wanted. Which was often the case whenever the bigger deer chased him.
One day while pretending to be a great stag the bigger deer found Nera and chased him through the forest, so disoriented from his day dreaming Nera took off and forgot all about his hiding spots. He was chased a long way and when they finally gave up chase Nera collapsed to the ground heaving a sigh of relief, only to realise he was in a part of the forest he didn't know. Panicked, Nera got up and looked around, it was a dark part of the forest but there was a faint ray of light in the distance.
After what seemed like hours of walking towards the light, he came across a small clearing with a pond covered in lilies, the late afternoon sun shining down onto it and a rocky outcrop over one side. In all his years Nera had never ventured this far from the safety of his home and took very tentative steps into the clearing. The fresh smell of the breeze tickled Nera's nose and calmed his nerves, a song bird fluttered past chirping and a rather large frog gave a loud croak startling Nera and making him trip over and injure his leg. Cursing his clumsiness, Nera winced as he got up and limped over to the rocks and collapsed on them over looking the pond.
By this time it was getting late and Nera knew he wouldn't make it home. Surveying his surroundings he decided it was safe to rest the night in the clearing and make his way home in the morning. Night fell and the breeze carried on it the sweet smell of the forest, caressing Nera into a deep sleep. So deep he didn't hear another deer enter the clearing, and make his way around the pond, his hooves clattering on the stone as he stepped up to stand next to Nera. Leaning down, he took a sip from the moonlit pond and seemed to not even notice Nera's presence.
A warm gush of air blew around Nera's face and stirred him from his dreaming. Lazily Nera opened his eyes, still blurred in the dark he caught a glimpse of light shining above him. After gathering himself Nera looked around and saw the figure beside him. Reflections sparkled across silver hooves and a radiant jet black coat covered a large and muscular frame, Large antlers flowed down the length of the stag and a bright light shone above his head. Before Nera could react the Stag turned to him and Nera froze, caught in his gaze, unable to blink or look away....
