My New Baby!

This little guy is a new addition to my family! An exotic pet, African Pygmy Hedgehogs are becoming more popular as pets, despite their rather particular needs. There's only two breeders within my state, so they can be rare. This cutie was sold for $175, not including the addition fee (about another $200 or so) of his entire setup including the cage, heat lamp and thermometer, water bottle, ceramic food bowl, igloo, wheel and his litterbox. I spent weeks studying all their needs and hope that I can give this guy a good home.

His temperament is supposedly 'one of the sweetest hedgies ever', according to the breeder. And he's actually really warmed up to me within the two days (and almost three nights) I've had him.

As they're nocturnal, I'm usually woken up in the middle of the night by his little snuffly sounds, but he's usually pretty quiet... Except for a scare last night.

Anyways! I just wanted to show off my little baby and find a way of getting back into the midst of things again.

For any of you who would probably ask:

He feels like petting a wire hairbrush most of the time, unless he puffs up and starts hissing. And yes, he can bite, but he usually doesn't unless he smells something 'nice' on you and wants to take a nibble. They mainly curl up in a ball when they're angry.

Also, the picture is of him 'anointing', or licking himself. Reason why they do it is debatable.
