(Under the cut!)
Crafting puppets!
This was entirely new for me. I've done every step of the progress in the past, but to make something like this of it, nope! It was really hard work, but definitly like therapy for me. If anything, I love to create critters.
This is actually based off of a character I play in the forest, a very paranoid guy. Whenever he sits on my lap, he's looking back at me like that. ._. XD
His fur is very soft, kind of compairable to a rabbits fur. (It's not real fur though.) And the clay parts are made of baked fimo, painted and varnished so it wouldn't damage, and has a nice shine to it. He's very posable, having quite the skeleton inside. The skeleton is covered with foam to keep him soft and relatively squishy. He has bones in his body, made of fimo, so his arms can't bend like a cartoony worm.
Sight and I calculated the price this guy would approximately be if I'd be to sell something like this. Ridiculously high, so I doubt anyone would pay that for it. Puppet for adults really. But I am considering taking plush commissions in my free time, much like the plush I've made in the past. I like to just sew a little in the evenings. So far I've always picked friends and bothered them with suprise-plush, but hey. Would anyone be interested in such? I'd make up a seperate blog for it though.
Though if you'd really want something like this.. <_<....XDD I need pictures of his other side!
That's... amazing.
Just... just... sdfsdf I have no other words to describe it ;___;
It might sound weird but his hands are my favourite part. <333
That is so awesome. I'd buy a
AH. I've seen plush's similar
Really nice anyway... The hands are slightly creepy, but the fur makes up for the cuteness. XD
Sybil: Thanks! Hehe XD I
Thanks! Hehe XD I don't think that sounds weird at all! His hands are a very important part of him!
Seed:
Really? Thank you! ^^ This monster was a lot of work, but my normal plushies are easier to do.. XD
Starling:
Yes! I've been seeing them a lot more too lately, they've always made me squee. Wanted one so badly. Then thought, hey, I can do that. Pff.
If you want, I have a lot of pictures of my process on this one, could help you out?
Thanks! Haha yess, he's very.. Huggable. But creepy in his own way.
Oh yes! Thankyou, that would
There you go! I personally
I personally prefer polymer clay. Like Fimo or sculpey. So nice to cut through with a sharp knife. (And then your hands.)
The black wire is actually electricity wire. Bends really nicely, and is far stronger!
I fill up the base with aluminium foil. Always handy, light stuff. After the clay is baked, I painted it with acrylic paint and then coated it with varnish for such paint. Really, do that before you fur, ROFL. Otherwise the paint will juuuust come right off.
The foam I have wrapped around the wire later, is glued together with fluid latex. I bet that could work with ordinary glue too, but I had it laying around and it would keep his flexibility up to the max.
The furring.. Well.. Prepare for a mess, and learn how to sew. XD
*bookmarks* Thankyou soo
Adjgkf cannot wait to start now. But I think I'll be getting materials maybe at the start of the new year, maybe before... I hope so before. I don't even have a clue what I'll be making yet! 8D Just some fluffy four-legged beast for sure. Though I think I'll make a random creature of some sort, instead of basing it on an animal. That way it doesn't have to look "normal" XD
What an awesome work you did
Whoa, Mis. I love the face
Starling: Clay is hard! But
Clay is hard! But yeah. Just get a knife. XD
I can't say much about it.. Just try, really. I have to admit I've worked with clay for a long time now, but it's easier than it seems. Gotta know some basics I suppose. This is the only 'tutorial' I've ever used next to classes. It's dutch but all it's about to me, is the pictures, and the layering. When making eyes, don't try to cut the eyeball out. Make a hole in the head, make a ball, put that in there and layer the eyelids over it. That gives a nice work of dimensions, otherwise it will be very flat! That rule goes for pretty much everything. Don't worry if it looks derpy at first, you can easily change it.
The problem with polymer clay for me really was the smoothing. Hard to get smooth whilst working on it. But if you use wet sandpaper on it after baking, you can get pretty far.
There are a lot of epic examples out there of trolls and.. Whatever creatures people come up with XDD I thought of making a random at first too, but then this guy came to mind and I just -had- to make him. Even if he had six damn limbs.
If you ever have any questions though, feel free to ask <3
Flyleaf:
You think so? Thanks! ^^
Ocean:
Haha thanks XDD Those were the most fun to do! Hands were a bit scary as they're so fragile when unbaked. But they turned out really well. Except that I didn't paint them on the same day, now one is lighter than the other. <_<
very cool
Oh also, I would seriously
I also suggest you could try and advertise this one for selling in her group? <3
Edit: Oh oh more tuts! *bookmarks* I've been recommended FIMO clay many times, so I'm going to try that. + thanks for the tip, smoothing is a pain LOL
Splinters: Thanks!
Thanks! <3
Starling:
But I couldn't! He's my baby! XDD And he's a personal character of me so.. I don't know. Would feel odd. If I'd sell him I'd want people to be able to make him theirs too, right? Have him a character.
Perhaps though if I ever make an unrelated one though. I'd love to do customs, but yes, not cheap. It's something I'd love to look into later, but I'd have to build up some skills and speed first. Right now it's too expensive because I take too long.
And ofcourse, he's nowhere near professional and has a lot of faults. But long fur = magical awesome. XDD
Thanks for the group-tip though! I love looking through these!
*EDIT*
I almost forgot. For the sewing, in case you didn't know, ladder-stitch. Look it up! Youtube, google, plenty tutorials out there. But that stitch is a must! Sewing machines won't save you XD
This puppet cost 3 million
Your plushies are epic too! I’d pay you to make me a Herla plushy if you hadn’t already! Can’t wait to have her in my hands!!!!
Anyways glad to see you post him here on the community. He’s just a doll really, his expression is so endearing. So much personality in his hands as well. The guy needs snugs. But he’d probably be afraid. And run away. I just realized the background too. Haha!
