Personality:
Iola is a kind, considerate, yet strong-willed, soul who lives in the moment. She is quite shy and tries to be polite and appreciative at all times. It takes a good bit of provocation for her to sour, but when she does, it takes some time for her to lighten up again. She takes a special interest in showing fawns the way of the forest. Though sweet natured, she will stand her ground if threatened. She is incredibly loyal and would not leave a friend behind.
Like many does, she is vain despite herself. While she doesn’t mind a good frolic in the mud, she is sure to clean up afterwards, more to feel refreshed than to look good. A more prominent flaw is her jealous streak. Fortunately, she is adept at hiding her envious attitude as she is usually ashamed of herself for feeling so petty. Others may also mistake her for being aloof, even snobbish, but it is a simple fact that she is a shy doe, and it takes her a little while to warm up to others. But once she feels comfortable, she is not afraid to run and dance and have a good time.
History:
Though Iola seems to be a happy, pleasant doe, her childhood was anything but pleasant. She was born in a time and place of war and despair into a family of warriors. From a very young age, she recognized the fighting all around her to be pointless and cruel. She tried to make a stand against the fighting to protect what little friends and family she cared for. Her twin sister was a weak, frail creature, and Iola knew that she would never survive as long as the fighting dragged on. Yet, her stand on the matter only brought pain onto herself. Her father berated her, threatened her. Her eldest brother abused her, physically and mentally. Her mother did nothing to protect her or her sister, and only regarded them with cool eyes full of disgust.
Iola decided that their only choice was to leave. It was a great journey, as a great span of land full of many forests was afflicted by this war. She and her sister finally made it to a land where the grass was actually green and the water sparkled with sunlight rather than blood and fire. They met deer that lived as they ought to, free to roam and do as they please. They heard rumors of a great forest, an endless forest, full of magic and beauty. Iola was determined to find it, for her sister’s sake, hoping that the magic would strengthen her fragile body and give her a full life. However, after several weeks of searching, the little doe’s heart gave out. Iola mourned for many days.
One morning, after a terrible storm, she awoke beneath a willow tree. She found herself overlooking a small pond. A kind deer welcomed her to The Endless Forest. At first she was in awe, then she was bitter, bitter at the fact that she had found the forest alone. As she learned more about the forest and its magic, she came to realize that not all the magic in the world could have saved her sister. She slowly healed and recovered from her depression. These events shaped her to become the deer she is today, kind and considerate with a quiet determination. She could never imagine being like her parents or brother, and she lives every day to the fullest for her and her sister.
