Ducks? Yes, ducks.

I had two Pekin ducks that I purchased fairly recently; within the last few months; from a feed store around here. One we bought was sick in the store, so we knew this day would come inevitably, but I was hoping not this soon, and I was hoping she would get better. She and her companion were separated a while ago, when the healthy one began unintentionally knocking the sick one over repeatedly, and the sick one would get stuck on her back or side. The sick one was quarantined to the large bin she and her companion were kept in when we got them, with plenty of room to move around and rest, as well as room for her food and water. She was content in this area, and found a couple ways to keep herself from falling over constantly. She adored the attention she got most of all, and would more than willingly ask for pettings on her head.

She was found passed away on Friday when I returned home with my family after picking my sister up from the airport.

Since her final days and most her life were spent in a rather unattractive area, I made her grave as pretty as I could with what I had.

Please note, she is buried under a hard packed layer of clay and dirt. The mulch was added over it as extra protection and a base for the ornaments on top. Those are giant Southern Magnolias blooming on one of the many trees surrounding our house. I am going to replace them with fake ones when the blooms die, and fake ones shall remain there until I can plant some Petunias.

It's so sad to lose a pet,

It's so sad to lose a pet, even if you "can see it coming."
But the grave you gave it is beautiful.

@Muc: I hope so. v-v She was a doll, I loved her to bits and pieces. I never got her well enough to put her in a pond or somewhere else pretty, so I hoped this would be enough... <3

@Proud: It is. I heard this saying once; 'You may become familiar with death, but you will never grow used to it.' I find it more and more true with every unfortunate sick foster animal or family pet dying of old age. Even the dogs and animals we find hit on the side of the road and try to comfort in their last moments of life. It's difficult to see something you were just caring for dead, and I will never get used to it...
And thank you. c: I dug it and decorated it with the help of my sister. <3
