...for some reason, this reminds me of a little-brought-up-these-days thing from Seed's fawnhood: when he was young, he described things he heard on the forum as "the trees whispering"...maybe I should bring that up again, or maybe he lost that understanding as he got older, or it became less focused...maybe there's a story there.

Well, assuming it WAS his origin story, you have a good point. (I've never been clear on if it was, or if it was not his origin story. If it was, then it was, if it was not, then he simply doesn't have one)

But now he is engaged in a great emotional war, testing whether this deer, or any other deer so concieved and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on the community site of this forest. We are come to dedicate a portion of this community site as a final resting place for those moods that gave their chemicals so that that deer might live. It is altogether silly and somewhat irreverant that we do this.
But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate -- we cannot consecrate -- we cannot hallow this post. The brave moods, happy and morose, who struggled here have consecrated it, far beyond our poor power to add or detract. The community site will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget how they angsted here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so emo-ly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of emotion -- -- that we here highly resolve that these moods shall not have died in vain -- that this deer, under the twin gods, shall have a new birth of emo -- and that deer of the emo, by the emo, for the emo, shall not perish from the Forest."
