I opened my eyes to a strange fog covering the forest. Standing slowly, I turned around unsure of myself. I could remember nothing before sleeping. I was... new? Timidly I walked towards the sounds of water, and frogs, but froze to a strange howling in the distance.
I shivered afraid, but saw a strange glow ahead and went to investigate. Under a tree I found one older than me, but they lay prone asleep. I lay next to them a while hoping for the warmth of another's fur. Eventually I stood, and walked away, through these darkened woods. Every one I found for a while was sleeping, until I came upon two standing stones. There many slept, but one away knelt to those stones, then turned. In a glow of magic my pelt turned white. I froze again, unsure of the strangeness, and bellowed once. The sound frightened even myself with it's volume, and I shook off my fear and turned to see where the older deer had gone, but I was too late! I was alone again, with those asleep.
I wandered still through the fog, over a strange bridge, and past two deer frozen together, like they had been rubbing affectionately. Eventually I came back to that swamp I had seen, but this time I was not alone. Here was another older deer, awake and moving.
I was so happy I stood nearby for their company, but they quickly turned and ran away. I wandered down the stream a little, to find another who did the same. I wondered then, if I was so strange, or unwelcome. I wondered if it was just the howls far off in the distance, or if they thought I was an apparition. Tired I curled under a nearby tree, to sleep once again.
