I was at Renaissance festival yesterday, and when I first saw the little mask shop I was immediately magnetized to it. I originally was looking at the ones with a more natural and leafy design, but i finally settled on this one.
Made by Satori Masks, it's hand crafted and painted leather. It's really comfortable and simply gorgeous, it came with a paper that explained how to properly care for it and a small description slip that read:
Carnivale

Carnivale is a festival which can trace it's roots back to the Roman
Saturnalia, a festival held in mid-December to honor the god Saturn
with feasting, gift giving, anonymous trysts, and role reversal. One
commonly accepted derivation of the word "carnival" is the Latin
"carne vale" or "farewell to meat". As Winter headed towards Spring,
and the long Lenten season of fasting and abstinence began,
Carnivale was a final allowance for feasting and indulgence.

All together the mask cost a whopping $58.00, which for me (being on the rather thrifty side) made me think about it for a while, but now, I'm really glad i bought it. I've been considering to begin a small collection of beautiful masks like these, and to be honest, I think the main influence was brought upon me by TEF, this place has caused me to really adore masks and such.<33

This is EPIC! The finish on

This is EPIC! The finish on it is great, I thought it was metal until you said it was painted leather. What a great find. 8D
